Alright, Chang here again and with a bit of a more 'fanciful' RP to change pace up. It's gonna degenerate into resembling a crappy Hong Kong flick, but I decided to come out with something new.
Plot:
In ancient times, the Chinese empire was one of the most powerful kingdoms in the world. As Europe suffered under the Middle Ages, Chinese trade, economy, technology, and culture battled with that of the other nations of the Orient, primarily Japan and the then-still-unified Korea. Although this occasionally brought conflict amongst these powerful nations, peace was still appreciated over mindless war.
However, the Ancient Orient was not without its own mythologies. The Chinese have believed that in the beginning, there was Heaven (Tian), the Jade Emperor (Yu Huang), and the mythical beings Nuwa and her companion Fu Xi.
In the beginning, there was only Heaven. Earth was barren save for the water and the land. One day, another war was fought amongst the gods for power of the throne. Of course, the Jade Emperor, creator of the universe, was triumphant, but it left a giant rip in Heaven.
Nuwa, a supporter of the Jade Emperor, proposed that they lead the Jade Emperor's enemies into the the rip and onto the world that lay before Heaven and, in their weakened numbers, strip them of all their powers. Thus, Man was created and was settled along the Yellow River.
However, it wasn't long before a grievous mistake was discovered by the current Emperor of China at the time, Fang Shi. In settling Man on Earth, Nuwa had allowed several mystical tablets containing the secrets to Celestial Kung Fu. On these tablets described techniques and abilities accessible only to the gods themselves. If a mortal should ever come across these tablets, they can relearn the abilities the gods had taken from them. In response to this new knowledge, Emperor Fang then amassed a great army, promising his soldiers great power and wealth, and began to ravage China in search of these other tablets, killing and destroying all in his way.
As it turns out, the gods were not that irresponsible. The tablets, unretrievable as it was already on Earth, were then entrusted to the most loyal of villages. Monasteries and towns grew around these powerful tablets for the sole purpose of protecting them.
However, a prophecy inscribed on the side of the tablets said that these tablets were the key to destroying the last enemies of the gods. When these enemies showed themselves, the greatest warriors of Man will assemble, making use of the tablets in order to fight the enemies of the gods, and will bring peace between Heaven and Earth.
That prophecy is about to be fulfilled.
Yeah, yeah, it looks like I've been watching too many Kung Fu movies, I know... Actually, I have been. sweatdrop Ahem, in anycase, this is just something new to spike activity, sort of like Ember's new RP. Remember the rules:
*Literacy *Respect for other players *No God-modding *Be fair to other players *Do a bit of research to understand some more

Here's the RPC form to fill out if you're interested in joining. Just PM it to me with the title 'Journey to the East'. Quote: Name: Age: Appearance: Fighting Style: Special Ability (Limit One): Biography: Oh, and as a note, your character doesn't have to be Chinese. It can be any other Asian race, but given the setting, Chinese is preferred. Characters:Name: Wang Chen Age: 27 Appearance: Fighting Style: Shaolin Long Fist Special Ability: Lightning Strikes Biography: Born to a poor farming family and the only son to parents long dead because of a bandit attack, Wang Chen had been a traveling hermit for a little under 10 years. He had been forced to leave his village with a strange tablet bestowed to him by the local Taoist priest and told never to return. Thinking of this as punishment for his excessive gambling, Wang Chen did as he was told and left his village of Kaichun. At 22, he had sought refuge in a cave near the hallowed Shaolin Monastery one day when he was discovered by a monk traveling down the winding paths leading from the temple. The monk, taking pity on him, took Wang Chen back to the monastery to stay the night. There, one of the head abbots discovered the tablets that he carried with him and explained its importance to Wang Chen. Soon, Wang Chen was pressed into training to prepare for the trials ahead. ================================================= Name: Ren Zhonglin Age: 19 Appearance: Fighting Style: Sill Lum (Praying Mantis) Special Ability (Limit One): Energy Ball Throw Biography: Ren was living with his family in a village with some kind of special rock or another. As he thought nothing special about it, he somewhat didn't care. Unfortunately, on a rather precarious day, a thief decided to take the tablet and run. At that time, Ren felt a tugging feeling and a urge to stop the thief. He succeeded, but barely with his life. After he had retrieved the tablet and returned to the village, it seemed that the fourteen year old had been chosen as the sacred keeper of the tablet, until the enemies of the gods showed themselves. Until that time, he was instructed to guard the tablet until death. Seeing as he had no way of defending himself, he traveled far away from the village and came to the monks of the east, from which he learned Praying Mantis. As a misfortune, he only learned that style from them and he had begun developing his own technique and style from the five years of experience. Although he is still a youth, he does take his duty very seriously. He's been guarding the tablet for five years, and he is still moving, currently though a thick forest. ================================================= l Ember l Name:Fang Meiyu Age:21 Appearance: Fighting Style: Tai Chi Special Ability (Limit One): Telekinesis Biography:Mei Yu is the daughter of Emperor Fang. She was raised as such, learning to become a proper Chinese princess, also being the eldest and first in line for the throne since Emperor Fang had no sons. She knows of his plan to find all of the tablets, and is not too fond of it. Unlike her father, she was born a kind and gentle person, dismissing the fact she was a rather good fighter, but being a princess she was not permitted to learn more than needed for mere exercise. She has yet to learn the true importance of the tablets, and is forbidden by her father to know of them. However, she can't be kept from such secrets forever.

((First post!))
"This should be all I'll need."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Headmaster. Thank you for everything."
"No, this monastery should be thanking you and all of the others the prophecy fortold of."
Wang Chen bowed to Headmaster Shi Biao. "I won't fail you, Headmaster."
Shi Biao waved it off and motioned for him to get going. "I would hope not, but if you fail, you along with the rest of the world won't live long enough to regret it."
Wang Chen chuckled nervously. "Eh... Right..." He bowed once more. Soon, the large, heavy doors of the Shaolin Monastery closed in front of him, closing him off from the world he had lived in for 5 years and reintroducing him into the harsh, dying world that he had lived in for 22. The world was under attack by the Emperor Fang Shi and his forces and now it was his job to rally the other tablet keepers and defeat Fang Shi.
Wang Chen turned away from the monastery and started down the path. A soft breeze flew past him and the aroma of the flowers on the Chinese mountainside surround him. It was strange to believe that such tranquility could still exist with the evil Fang Shi alive.
'Not for long,' Wang Chen promised himself. He took a map from out of his hermit's sack. "Now, let's see here... Where the Hell am I going?" Yes, Wang Chen and many other would have to ban together to defeat the evil Emperor Fang Shi. But first... this idiot would have to figure out how to read a map...

It had been five years since he first got the tablet, and now he still guards it. Ren was walking through a thick forest and had been for a rather long time. The sun was overhead, which meant noon to him. He heard the sounds of flowing water, which he followed until the sound brought him to a waterfall. As it happened, his jug was empty, and so he filled it with water from the stream. In the distance, he saw a clearing into the open light, where a road lay in wait. He kept the mask over his face, in case anyone was to ambush him. After making his way through and around the young, green bamboo forest, he walked into the sun light and onto the road. His thin shoes on the hard, rough road didn't bother him, but it did make him slightly glad. It was pretty hot that day and he was starting to regret wearing black. "Where am I supposed to find others?" He muttered to himself.
During his five years, he had come across many temples and monks who had told him of the prophecy of the tablets. They also told him of the others, who had them as well as the enemies of the gods who would stop at nothing to obtain the tablets. Right now, Ren was wondering if he was going to find any others. He saw a city in the distance, so he made his way to it, hoping that he might find others there, although unlikely.

Meanwhile in the palace, Meiyu was with her personal Tai Chi instructor, taking her daily lesson. When she finished she bowed to her instructor. Master Chun bowed in return. "You are doing well, your highness." Meiyu nodded. "Thank you master." she said softly. "I have been practicing." Master Chun gave a small chuckle and nodded as he placed a hand on her shoulder in acknowledgment. "I can tell." Meiyu smiled and nodded. Master Chun was like a father to her, one that wasn't always obsessed with power and with no thirst for violence. He was the one she was always with, and she learned much from him other than just Tai Chi. Master Chun motioned for her to follow. "Come, take a walk with me." Meiyu nodded and walked alongside him. They walked in silence for several minutes, until they passed a quiet and deserted hallway. At the very end, in a glass showcase, was a tablet. Meiyu stopped momentarily and stared at it before moving closer. Master Chun walked up behind her. "You are not permitted to be here." he said calmly. "What is this about, anyhow?" she asked him. "I cannot tell you." Master Chun replied again calmly. Maiyu sighed and turned to him. "Forgive me Master but I feel I must speak freely. I am one past twenty, I believe I am old enough to know of what on earth is going on with this tablet!" she nearly shouted. Master Chun simply replied by holding up a hand to silence her, and Meiyu bowed her head. "My apologies Master. It's just so frustrating." Master Chun then said. "Apology accepted However," he gave a small smirk. "You do have a point. Come, walk with me more, and I will tell you." he put an arm around her shoulder as he led her out of the corridor and began his explanation.

After two hours of wandering, Chen let out a cheer as he found a decent sized city not too far. "Hey! I can probably get a drink there!" With that, he ignored the pain in his feet and set off towards the city.

On the way there, he heard marching, coming from behind him. Looking across the valley, there was a village being ransacked by Fang's forces. Ren wanted to help, but he couldn't, lest he be killed and fail his duty. He had to get to that city before they did.
Almost an hour later, he had gotten into the city, while it was still quite light in the day. Many of the buildings there were composed manly of red lumber and arches, much like every other place he had been. He spotted a door and troops moving in from the west side.
Seeing as he didn't have much time left, he ran to the door which opened into a three story resturaunt. It was filled with rich officials and other people whom he had no concern for. After looking left and right, he walked calmly up the stairs onto the top floor which overlooked the bottom two floors.
Ren walked to the open windows and looked outside. It seemed that the troops were taking a detour into the city. How unsoldierly he thought and stepped away from the window and bumped into someone, whom he apologized to and walked away from.
Not to far away from him, a drunken man was laughing and falling over, when his bag of money fell out. "Qianbao..." he muttered and walked over to it. He took it and walked away when he heard the man yell after him, "NI GEI WO DE QIANBAO!" Seeing as the man was very drunk, he palmed enough coins for some food and he gave the man his bag back.
After eating some Gy-Fan, he stood up, bowed and said, "Xie xie." To the lady, who took his dish and walked away. Once again, he looked out the window to see what the soldiers were doing. Ren began counting them, "Yi, er, san, si, wo, liu, ji, ba, jiu, shi..." He got forty and lost interest, when he steped away from the window and sat in the corner, lost in his thoughts.

Chen was very tired by the time he reached town but was revitalized with fear and a bit of careful contempt when he saw soldiers of Emperor Fang's army. Chen disappeared through an alleyway to avoid them and walked inside a small restaurant.
He smiled pleasantly at the woman that met him at the door. After ordering a round of rice wine, he sat in the corner opposite to another man. "Nice town, eh friend?" he greeted.

As her master told her more and more about the tablet and the secret behind them, Meiyu became more and more interested. They came across the same hallway once more, and she looked at the tablet. "Master, what does my father want with these tablets?" she asked. Master Chun sighed. "He wishes to find them all and use take over heaven. To become a god." he replied, a hint of pity in is voice. "He'll do anything that need be done to do it. Even if it means killing off millions of his own people." he told her. Meiyu's eyes widened. She shook her head in disbelief. "That's insane...my father would never do such a thing..." she said. "But he is, child, he is." Chun said. "Just the other day he wiped out all of Tian Jin." "What?! No, he couldn't have!" Meiyu nearly shouted. She thought for several minutes before a look of anger and determination spread across her face. "He can't go on with this nonsense. I won't allow it.." With that she stormed off.

Before the other man could reply, several tired soldiers entered the small restaurant, bringing with them an aura of arrogance. The soldiers, 5 of them, approached the table he and the other man were sitting at.
"You're in our table, peasant," the leader, a large, muscular man that towered over the other restaurant patrons declared.
Chen looked at the man, hiding his contempt. "Sorry, friend, we were here first... There are plenty of other tables if you-"
The leader of the soldiers grabbed Chen by the collar of his shirt. "I suggest you get out before I really get mad."
On instinct, Chen stuck out his leg and kicked the leader in the chin, causing many in the restaurant to scream, yell, or run. Chen escaped from the man's grasp and got into a Horse Riding stance on the table, already prepared for a fight.

By this time it had begun to storm and rain outside. Meanwhile back at the palace, Meiyu had put on a cloak to shield her face and body, and she went to the hall with the tablet. For a moment she stared at the tablet, before kicking the glass. It shattered loudly, and she grabbed the tablet and ran, the sound of footsteps close behind. Knowing the place well, she made many twists and turns that lost the guards as she exited the palace and went out into the city. Word would quickly spread of her escape, and what she had done. She did not care, her father would be stopped, even if she had to do it herself.

((Sorry... I've got dinner. Feel free to do what you wish with my character.))
Ren looked at the supposed leader and asked him a question, "Wo zhao Feng. Feng zai na li?" The leader then looked in his direction massaging his jaw, as Ren was covering his face once again, "Bu, Feng bu zai na li. Ni jiao?"
Ren shook his head, then said, "Ni shi xiao." The man grew an angry face and threw a punch just as Ren pulled a Mantis stance, hooked his arm and threw his elbow into his chest and roundhoused him in the face. The leader fell to the floor to catch his breath.
Ren looked at the man on the table and asked, "Ready?" The other solders drew an offensive stance while Ren took the Mantis stance once more on the floor.

Chen looked at the man's fighting stance. "Shaolin Mantis?" he asked him as he sprung off of the table, drilling two kicks into one soldier's chest before crouching low and back-sweeping him to the floor.

Meiyu began a long travel. She had never even been outside the palace walls before. All she knew was that she was heading south. She pulled the cloak about her tighter to shelter from the rain and chilly wind as she continued to walk at a fast pace, wanting to get away as quickly as possible.
Chun meanwhile had found a note in his room that read:
Master Chun,
I ask of you not to speak this to anyone. Although many will probably find out soon enough, I stole the tablet and left. I will not watch my father destroy everything. I am taking actions in my own hands. If he does not have one, he can't have as much of a head start. You are to burn this letter, and if anyone asks, say nothing. It will be a long time before I see you again, if I ever do. You have been like the father I never had. I do not think of power hungry barbarians to be fathers. I will miss you dearly. Until then, my friend.
Fang Meiyu.

((Right, sorry about that. I had a serious urge to do the part where I speak chinese and the other guy doesn't understand, and I go, "That's because you are not listening!"))
"Mmhmm, Horse?" He asked as he watched the man drill kick two soldiers That's not horse... just before he hooked one soldier, hit him in the temple, then axe kicked another guard before doubling back from a jump kick. He winced and put his hand on his chest just as the soldier was about to make another air kick. Just as he did, though, Ren made a side-stepping kind of step hooked the man down into the floor, which winded him and kept him down.
There were two soldiers left, one of which was the arrogant one. Ren took a step back and watched the leader's footwork. "Your's," Ren called to the other man and he kicked the other soldier, pulled him in, elbow hard in the side of the head and then a head kick. The soldier defended all of the attacks by deflecting them from side to side, a technique called, 'Sticky Hand'.
The other soldier wasn't a worthy opponent though, as Ren changed to his own technique that he had been building. The stance was still Mantis, but he made more punches and air roundhouses. The soldier, now confused by the sudden change of style disintigrated his stance and Ren kicked him in the direction of the other man. "This one's your's too."
