Well....My work history for the last year and a half has been an odd one. March of 07 I started working for Meineke's sister company Tortal.net (providing e-learning solutions). November of 07 I got downsized and immediately got a job as a web designer at IMG, based out of uptown Charlotte. April of 08, They couldn't afford me anymore, and I got brought back on with Tortal as a contractor. Work started to dry up, no money was to be made, they PISSED MY THE HELL OFF, and my old boss at IMG had promised to hire me back once things got better. Well, I'm back there now as a Project Manager. I'm doing triple the work, but getting paid more than I ever have before. It's still not enough for Kitty to stay at home with the kids forever, but it's better than nothing. Not bad for a 23 year old, eh?

Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves. This is by no means a cushy job. No one wants it. I am responsible if web developers don't get things done on time, and we got some contractors that work opposite schedules for the sake of their families. I have to corrdinate with them...fun fun.

More to come later.

Where was I? Ah yes. I love the people I work with. I only wish I had a better period of adjustment. Now I know why all of my other Project Managers were always so cranky unless it was lunch-time. That's the only time you have to unwind. I get home just in tome to have left-overs and go to bed. Oy Vey. Seriously, unless you are EXTREMELY lucky, a high-paying job comes with more responsibilities and if anything goes wrong, it's on YOUR head, not the people who messed up in the first place. Having someone under you means that you catch s**t for their mistakes because "You should have caught it sooner" (never mind the work was JUST turned in and was being reviewed for the first time). Sure, I'm getting more money....but it comes with a price. Don't you EVER believe that there's some magical career in the real world. TV, Film, Music, and Radio are your only chances. Even in radio you have to have a pretty face because of local appearances and such. Information technology is a tough gig to make a break into, and even then you probably won't be doing what you wanted to do.

Back before AJAX and XML held any weight, I wanted to be a programmer. Naturally, while trying to self-teach myself, suddenly every tutorial and text book was flooded to strings that reference these. Php is losing headway to .NET 2.0, Apache servers are slowly being replaced with REDHAT...REDHAT FOR CHRISSAKES!!! IT'S A FRIGGIN OS FOR A DESKTOP NOT A SERVER OS! Things are changing all the time. It's really hard to keep up without a continuing education. You need to attend forums and conferences every year, listen to MXCON's latest spew, carefully listen to any whispers of updates to code. Like when did CSS2 actually become popular? That language has been around since 97 AND NO ONE EVER USED IT BEFORE! NOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE "STANDARD"?!?!?! Please, CSS was fine before those so-called improvements jacked with my browser. HTML is dying, which shocks me...as it's the basis of my field. Actionscript 3 totally undermines the logic behind AS2. I'm sorry but where do we draw the damn line? when is enough enough? we can now do just about ANYthing on the web. How many times must an entire language change until people are coding in Klingon with a specialty keyboard?

In any case, back on track...I have a new job and I am happy...even if I DO wish I had more time for my family.

Well.....my job I think kinda sucks now. I no longer do much admin work, and I got stuck in design and quality assurance (worst combination ever conceived). I mean, seriously. Who expects someone to spend a week on a project and NOT become blind to things due to over-exposure?!??! I'm tired of the long hours and low pay. Here's hoping I find something more worthwhile.

Well ladies and gents...the company is no more. I am now unemployed...I gotta find something ASAP that provides at least 4k each month. This friggin sucks.

Awww, I'm sorry Blue sad
I can sorta sympathize- I was recently fired...But I'm not supporting myself yet...I was saving up a bit to do so since I really really want to move out when I'm 18...So I need to find another job, and eventually one that I can sustain myself with.
Good luck with the job hunt *sprinkles luck dust on you*
