The dark, indigo-winged otter lay casually on a large, smooth stone, licking remnants of her evening meal from her paws. Though the days were growing colder, she hoped the sun could warm her fur. By the looks of her schooled features and straightened posture, it was hard to imagine Jaydin to be the one to ever break loose once in a while and have fun. That wasn't entirely true. Although she did have a playful side, there were very few otters who could provoke it. A couple males she met before tried to convince her that you had to play in order to have fun. And although she had nearly opposite views with one of them, there was a time when she would consider him the closest thing she had to a friend.
However, upon learning about the otter's passing, Jaydin tried to keep the majority of her emotions locked up while she returned to life inside the Pacific. Things had been going pretty smoothly so far, though Mistress Ching's warriors seemed more tense with the villainous characters entering the Oasis each day. The dark angelic felt confident in knowing many otters and predators would think twice before trying to attack the Mistress' territory, however this did not stop the warriors from extending their patrols. Because of this, Jaydin hadn't been spending much time with her god-father, Renkai. He doesn't fish as much as he used to, rather he prefers to spend his time training or watching the borders.
The moltled otter sighed and ruffled her wings. She knew no amount of training chould make Renkai a fighter at heart; he was simply too soft. She rested her head on her paws and scanned the small stream that lay ahead of her. As fall ebbed away and winter approached, it seemed that more than just the environment was changing.

"Fiend! Leave this place before I turn that tail of yours into a real worm!" An agitated, tenor-pitched male voice broke the silence of the female's world and there was the sound of a scuffle before a strange pair of foes rolled into view. One was a huge, dirty, ugly rat, larger than his growling and barking opponent. The other... Well, he looked like an otter and sounded like an otter, but he was much too small! Figaro was indeed a small otter, somewhere in size between one of the minis that were almost everywhere and the normal otters that lived in the Oasis. But in the Caves of his homeland, size didn't matter much and he had in fact been the largest of his brothers, so he knew no fear of things larger than he. Especially not some ugly rat like what he was going up against. "I said lea-" he began again when the rat sunk yellowed teeth into the flesh above one of his front paws. "b*****d!" the small otter swore in surprise, pain, and anger before returning to the battle with a renewed fervor, finally getting a hold of the rat's nose in his teeth and shaking like a wolf. The rat clawed its way free and took off, shrieking. Battered and bleeding, Figaro flopped down, breathing heavily. And then noticed the winged female. "Oh good gracious! I'm so sorry, lady! I didn't see you there!" he apologized profusely, bowing low.

Jaydin's ears perked up in surprise as two small thrashing forms burst from the underbrush. She was quickly on her paws, cringing at the the sight of the rat. Her heart rate quickened as the rodent's teeth gashed into the small otter's forearm. Her mind screamed to help instead of just to stand by and watch, but it felt as though her paws were heavy with lead at the startling sight. As quickly as rat came, it ran off, leaving behind the small otter with his wounds.
With an unsteady swallow, the angelic forced herself to regain her composure. Wings folded firmly at her sides, Jaydin approached the battered otter. As she drew closer, she realized that the otter had either been an exceptionally large mini or a full grown adult whose growth was stunted.
She acknowledged his bow with a curt dip of her head. "Please, noble warrior, there is no need for apologies." she murmured softly, trying keep her voice leveled. "How deep is your wound?" she asked, a hint of concern in her controlled eyes.

Figaro shook his head in denial, for he had every reason to apologize. "Oh, but there is! A male should never fight in front of a lady, it isn't safe," he insisted and looked down at the crimson staining the white fur on his paw as it dripped down. It hurt like hell, but he was good at hiding it. "Oh, no, it's nothing, really," he added, trying to hide the bite. His slanted, yellow eyes watched her brightly, his whiskers turned upwards slightly with his small smile. He was always told he was quite a charming little fellow.

Jaydin tilted her head curiously, a small, soft smile spreading across her features. "Such the chivalrous warrior, aren't you?" she purred lightly, lowering herself next to where the mini had flopped down. "You put yourself in harm's way for the sake of protecting the territory from that foe. Surely that is a noble act within itself." She stated approvingly. However there was a slight edge to her tone, as if to wave off any further apologies. She couldn't help but purr slightly in amusement as the small otter attempted to hide the wound behind a charming smile. "Ah, but I'm afraid modesty will not stop it from infection." she remarked with a knowing glint in her eye. She held out her paw to the other with an inquiring glance to see his forearm. "I don't think I've seen rats as horrid as that one around these parts before. Where did it come from?"

Figaro chuckled. "I've been told that, thank you, lady," he replied to her compliment and reluctantly offer his paw to her. The gash was badly torn up, but not so deep. He and Jaydin could see the very thin layer of fat and the muscle beneath. Of course, it was difficult to see due to matted fur and blood. "Forgive me, I am used to my sisters. They were quite put off whenever my brothers or I got cut up, so it is a habit," he added with a small shrug as he smiled up at her. "Your wings are lovely, lady," he complimented and then tried to recall her question. "Oh, the rat. Nasty thing, wasn't it? I caught it going after some of those otters smaller than me. It smelled of strange things, so I imagine it came from far away, though I can't place where. My life has been quite sheltered."

Jaydin held the smaller paw in her own, tilting it carefully to inspect the wound. "It's quite alright," she reassured. "When I was much younger, I'd sometimes spend my time with a bloodied elder who'd always needed to be restitched and whatnot. I'm quite used to it by now, though I'd still hate to see such wounds unattended." the angelic murmured softly, eyes lowered to the gash. She licked the pad of her free paw and gingerly dabbed it around the wound. She was murmuring something about washing his foreleg in a creek and then wrapping it in some cobwebs, when she caught his compliment. "Oh?" Jaydin looked up to the small warrior's face and gave a glance at her indigo-tipped wings. "Why, thank you..." she said quietly as she turned her attention back to cleaning the male's wound, her dark fur concealing a small blush. She noted the term 'smaller otters than me' and realized that his fellow wasn't an actual mini himself. "Ah the minis. Yes, they tend to get into trouble when they aren't making it themselves. It's a good thing you ran that vile rodent out when you did. Who knows what it could've done with the current pups and soon to be yet another baby boom." She added a bit sadly. The angelic ad quite an affinity for pups.

Figaro chuckled again, showing no outward appearance of the sting the female's ministrations were causing. A warrior learned to ignore pain, where he came from. "Is that what they're called, then? I wasn't quite sure, really. You may have already guessed I'm not from around here. I'm rather surprised at the diversity of the sizes of you... uh...forgive me if it sounds negative, outworlders. At home, we were roughly the same size. Out here, everyone's big, small, or somewhere in between," he ran on for a bit as she tended to him paw. This female seemed quite nice. She reminded him of his mother, in ways. "Look at me, you must think I'm horribly impolite! I've completely forgotten introductions!" he exclaimed suddenly, and did his best to force himself not to yank his paw from hers as he attempted another bow. "I am Figaro deConti, youngest son of Emilio, of the Holt Cinerea," he introduced, his head bowed over her paw. He carefully raised his other paw so that he could take the one that had been dabbing at his injured one, turn it back-up, and give it a quick, formal kiss.
((I would like it known that this would have been done sooner, but I went searching through hundreds of pages looking for that blasted name. XDD ))

Jaydin tipped her head thoughtfully to the side as she listened to the smaller male. "I've never heard of a place that is home to only otters of one stature. It sounds remarkable, really. But I suppose a little diversity never harmed anyone, hmm?" The angelic gave a genuine smile at Figaro's introduction. "A true warrior does not forget his gallant mannerisms, does he?" she purred pleasantly. Glad that her dark fur was able to conceal her soft blush at the warrior's kiss, she dipped her head graciously. "Well met, Figaro deConti. It is a great pleasure to meet such a noble warrior such as yourself. Ah, before I forget my manners, I am Jaydin of the Pacific Territory, devoted follower to Mistress Shih Ching." Jaydin, on the other hand, did not have any family titles to live up to.
((Crazy Reesh, you didn't have to go through all that trouble xD ))

"It's nice to see such different otters and other creatures and whatnot," Figaro replied, letting her paw slide from his. He smiled broadly at her smile, warmed over her smile and her paw and the polite dip of her head. He swelled slightly at her compliment and nodded his head. "I do believe I've heard of this Mistress Ching. I take it you are one of her... what was the term... Lady in waiting?" he asked, tilting his head to one side/

Jaydin purred softly to herself at Figaro's broad smile before giving a curt nod. "Yes, a Lady in Waiting, and still waiting these days." she murmured, though there was no trace of sadness behind her voice. "Perhaps until the right fellow comes along, however I have a tendency to ward off other males for being too etiquette at times." She chuckled slightly in amusement. "We have warriors on the territory as well. I've never seen them in action though. Probably not as bold as you are." Not the one she had in mind, anyway. She smiled at thought of Renkai flinching at the sight of a rat much like the one Figaro fought off, tilting her head curiously. "Ah, I surprised I haven't seen you before around these parts. Have you been here for some time now?"

Figaro tilted his head a bit, smile not wavering, but his eyes dropped a bit. Poor thing, it sounded like she didn't have many to talk to. "Oh, I'm certain they're just dazzled by your beauty. How could you ward off other males? You're sweet and pretty and any male would be proud to spend mere moments in such fine company," the small male replied, his smile charming and sincere. The warrior had a habit of being overly blunt sometimes, which had sometimes been a problem. Females often found him overly flattering, but his brother closest in age to him often told him he envied him, that he wished he could be so cool with saying nice things to females. It was quite confusing. "Not exactly. I traveled down in the early fall. In truth, I've actually never experienced these cold temperatures. Where I come from, it's mostly warm."

The angelic stretched comfortably before laying down by the smaller otter. "Noble and flattering. My, my, you're quite the gentleman, Figaro." she purred, a rare, playful glint in her eyes. "Ah, but the other males I tend to meet believe things like fun and happiness must come from play, and that everything else is boring and set in stone. When I prove otherwise, I tend to get the cold shoulder." She shrugged and rolled her eyes. Some men... Jaydin listened intently to Figaro, ears perked in curiosity. She always wondered how the world was like beyond the reserve. Supposedly they were somewhere in North America... Canada or whatever the humans called it. "I've been told it's normally this cold during winter here. But where you come from sounds interesting... Surely you were the most charming one there." she suggested with a soft chuckle.

"Well, they're just young and immature. Some of the greatest pleasures can come from sitting and talking with good company," Figaro replied, sitting down and giving his paw a careful lick. "My older brother used to say that. I found it more of a bother. The females I knew back home used to think I was overly flattering and tended to only like my company in moderation," he replied, chuckling.

"Indeed," Jaydin noted thoughtfully. Good company wasn't hard to come by, but it could be tricky to gain depending on the favor of the person you were speaking to. The angelic tsked the thought of others finding the young warrior's kind gestures as anything but pleasing or polite. "Don't take consideration to their words. They just don't know a gentleman when they see one." Jaydin tipped her head and offered the male a serene smile. "I find it to be a delight to be in the company of a gracious fellow such as yourself." she purred. There weren't many courteous males like Figaro in the Oasis nowadays. Such a shame, really. After a moment of thought, Jaydin added: "If you don't mind me asking... did you have other family besides you brother?"
