As you all know I was "Working them polls baby!" when I looked at our state today, we legalized marijuana (for medicinal purposes) which I agree with, but the issue I tried so hard to stop, went through, Proposal Two allows UNRESTRICTED, UNREGULATED human embryonic stem cell research. Cloning, Hybridization, and whatever they want.
I just feel like all the work I did for the past year... was nothing now... and the thing is, most people I knew were against it, and a lot of my friends are pro-choice!

Michigan!
How can they ban abortion, isn't that illegal by the Roe vs. Wade case, or is it to try to cause an uproar and have a possibility for abortion to go bye-bye?

Rainbowfied Mouse Michigan! How can they ban abortion, isn't that illegal by the Roe vs. Wade case, or is it to try to cause an uproar and have a possibility for abortion to go bye-bye? Exactly; If the ban had passed, it would have been challenged, bringing abortion back before the Supreme Court. Which now looks like it's not going to happen for another ten or more years, since that the South Dakota ban was defeated, and Obama was elected, so the next Supreme Court justices will all be Pro-Choice. Grr... And with a Democrat congress, he can push through the -most- ridiculously Pro-Choice judges possible, because the Republicans won't be able to block it. Regardless of how you feel about his politics in other areas, this is the worst possible outcome for the Pro-Life stance. ...But anyways, your 8 hours weren't for nothing! Hopefully you convinced some other people.

It's never for nothing. You did your part, you fought your fight, and now it's not on your conscience, first off.
Secondly, use this loss to fuel more outrage against it. It can be voted against later. In the meantime we live with some evil, but we can always keep fighting. If you don't fight, then it truly is a waste.

Out here prop two has to do with giving animals more space and all that (you know cows, chickens,ect...). I hadn't heard much about the stem cell thing but I thing they could of found other ways to research without using embryos. I'm more upset about prop four not passing. Minors can still have abortions without letting their parents know, bad idea for many reasons. I guess you can't win everything. Edit-sorry, the quote button isn't working.

@ Sachiko: ^ ^ I'm so happy about the cows and chickens having more space. There's absolutely no reason to keep them confined like that, that isn't selfish and irrational. Happy chickens make the best eggs. :3
As for prop 4 - I'm all for minors having more rights, freedoms and privacy from their parents, but any reason to prevent abortion is fine by me; whether you say that people with long fingers can't have them, or people with green eyes can't have them, it protects a human life in the end. Minor abortion's no worse (or better) than adult abortion. That's my outlook on it... but I'm like, the only youth rights fanatic on Gaia, so... xd
@ Rainbowfied Mouse: Don't feel bad. It's not going to be easy, and it'll hurt in the meantime, but your hard work wasn't for nothing. You still probably changed a couple people's minds, and that counts. At least you tried! That's a lot more than I did!

I did actually convince one person the day of the elections to vote no on this specific proposal... she didn't know what it was, and I was more than happy to tell her. I got a lot of thank-yous as well!
Speaking of which, I believe it was mostly the other side of the state (Detroit, and such) that voted yes, not ours (Grand Rapids, and such)

unlimited embryonic research and cloning are two seperate issues but issues none the less. my theory is if there are still people who have abortions even when we(pro-lifers) try to change them we should use the aborted fetuses for the research instead of just throwing the corpses away we can use a "evil" act to bring about "good".

It doesn't actually work like that. No aborted fetuses are used in stem cell research. For stem cell research, they actually create embryos in a lab and then take the cells from those embryos. Fetus' stem cells are useless after abortion because they have already died.

In reply to Captain_Terror, If I am not mistaken, Cloning embryos still uses human eggs and sperm; which combined makes a real live fetus. In my eyes this is still human life and if it is meant to be alive then he or she should live. I do not feel they could clone any human baby if she or he were not meant to be here. It is still murder.

Connecticut had legalized gay marriage, which I'm okay with, but I think that they encourage abortion. I'll have to do research.
