Van Dien was doing what Van Dien always did....

That is to say: He was doing nothing. Van was currently sitting wrapped head to toe in a blanket, under the floating back stair of his family wagon. He had been watching the other gypsies moving back and forth from daily task to fun and games all morning, but nothing had really seemed to catch his attention and hold it... but then again, not much did.

As he watched the fortunettes of the caravan going back and forth, he counted in his head the ones that he'd actually talked to, and came up with a surprisingly low number... then he counted the ones that he thought even knew he existed, and the number was higher, but still remarkably low.

He sighed and adjusted his blanket.

Kala was doing what she always did. In fact it was the only thing she could do and was sure that she was amazing at it. She was a pain in the backside. She knew it and she loved it. What was better then that? Oh there was one thing that was better then just being a pain in the backside and that was doing something to annoy or hurt her brother. She loathed him and had done from the minute she was born. Stupid birds.

She moved around the campsite looking at everyone else and it was only for a slight movement that the strange child caught her attention. Her first reaction was something of disgust. However she soon got over it, after all she was always looking for a good opportunity because thats just what she was like.

"Ye okay under there?" She spoke calmly and in a rather sweet kind of way. It wasn't like her in the slightest but she wasn't going to get her own way if she acted like herself all the time now was she?

Van jumped at the voice. He hadn't heard her approaching and the sudden presence actually scared him. Instinctively he wanted to burrow back into the blanket and not say anything, but that was what little moles did. He was not a little mole anymore... he was a medium mole.

He turned to her with a scowl and grabbed the blanket behind him absently for comfort. "Yes." His voice was low and scratchy, his natural voice. He wanted to tell her to go away, but he heard his mother's voice in his head, calling him chicken. Not a chicken... he was a mole.

"What do.... what do you want?"

She watched him being rather repelled by him at every movement he made. He should be an easy one, just had to work out how to manipulate him.

"Do you want to come and play? Everyone else seems to be so busy and I just want to play..." She was a child, she could at least act like one every now and then and he couldn't refuse her, after all she looked like just an innocent child who wanted to play. Who could resist her adorable face anyway?

"Please play, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!"

He shuddered at her elongated Pleeeeaaassssee, and realized he'd say anything just to make her stop drawing attention to them. "okay... okay okay." He pulled the blanket forward and started to wrap it into a tight little ball that could be carried more easily.

As he looked at her and saw something he couldn't quite place as normal. There was something about her that wasn't like Ro, or like the mouse boy, or the yellow bird boy... something not... not truthfull.

"What are we playing?" He prayed that it was something that wouldn't take them out into the middle of the caravan screaming.

Kala just smiled, in a rather sweet way, at least for her anyway. Kala and sweet just didn't mix well in the slightest.

"What would you like to play? I find just trying to work out a way to make everyone leave me alone is always a fun one to play." It didn't take long to pick up on his shyness and so she thought she would play on it a little.

"I find its nice to be left alone sometimes and so I think of fun ways to make the ones that won't leave you alone to vanish." She was talking in an innocent like way as if this was all true and that she found it sometimes was easier to let people believe something that wasn't true.

"I don't have a great realtionship with my brother." She smiled and sat down next to him, after all he clearly didn't want to get up so they could play a made up game. It seemed suited for both of them.

He thought about that for a moment and flinched slightly when she sat down, but he didn't move. He'd read several things about unsocial characters in varrious books, and he'd already come up with some theories on the subject.

"You mean... you mean, like digging a hole outside a wagon, and covering it with sticks and stuff so they fall in it?" Not that he'd thought about that... of course not. That would be mean.

She nodded, "Something like that."

She smirked a little though wiped it off her face as quickly as she could, she didn't really want him to notice that.

"I have always wondered whether the wind would ever be strong enough that it would blow them away or just be so loud that you couldn't hear anything they said." She was happy to say this, she rarely managed to just out right say things like this and it meant a lot to her that she now could, even if it was someone that she found revoulting.

He turned to her slighty, more excited now though not wiggling or anything. "I always wondered about those things the marketplace sellers have, or the boothmen... like the bottles. What if they were invisible spells or something... or what if they had a cloak or a jacket that made you invisible... you could go anywhere or do anything and not been seen."

Kala laughed, "Haha thats great! What would you do if you were invisible? I would so annoy my brother for hours on end!" She smirked a little at that thinking about all the different things that she would do to Amkia. Oh it would be funny torturing him.

She looked to him and smiled, hey at least he seemed to be enjoying himself. Somehow she would work out how to get him on her side, she just had to let things play out a little. She wasn't great like that she had no patience.

He stopped suddenly, caught off guard by her question. What would he do if he were invisible? He hadn't actually thought that far ahead... only that it would be nice to not be seen. "I... I don't know. The same things I always do I guess, only less worried and less on the lookout." There really wasn't anyone that he disliked with a passion. There was the occasional annoying person, but that was only because they had boring daily routines, and became dull to watch all day long. Not actually because of a personal fault or anything like that.

"Maybe... " Maybe. "Maybe I'd go to the market and grab a pie off the table." That did sound like fun actually. "Maybe I'd get a wooden toy for me and only me, or maybe... maybe I'd pinch someone!" He smiled suddenly. The ability to touch someone and have them still not be able to see that he was right there would be wonderful.

She listened intently and then smirked.

"We could go and pretend we were invisable now and sneak about and grab pies and stuff. We can make it into a game." She was hoping this would be accepted by him because if so then she could train him while doing so. At least then he would be easier to recruit if he saw that misbehaving was much more fun then behaving.

She looked at him in a childish pleading way. After all it was only a 'game'.

"But but..." He stammered and pointed out towards the middle of the caravan where two gypsies were talking. "We're not invisible.... they'll see us for sure!" He let the blanket unravel in his hands and began to knead it in frusteration and worry. "I mean... I do want to... I just...."

What was it, he wondered. Why did he want to sneak around, and yet not at the same time? Freedom. That was why he wanted to sneak around. He was tired of being/feeling stuck here under the wagon and in the blanket... yet he also didn't want to be seen.... or even...

"I don't want to get yelled at for anything."

Kala smiled, "You won't get shouted at, I will trust me, come on! I am the queen of sneaking about, I will teach you!" She smiled at him knowing full well that she would get the blame for anything they did. Most of the gypsies knew she wasn't the best behaved child. She knew they all wanted her to act more like her annoying brother.

"Look follow me, it will be fine, honest!" She smiled at him and moved away a little but offering her hand to him so to lead them to where ever they may end up going.
