 Bored. Bored. Tired and bored. Where on earth was Doto? Giza couldn't believe he was going to be late for once instead of her. She was already tired from training, but she wanted to get out and have some fun! So she was bored.
"Bored... bored... boredy bored bored." She said out loud, turning it into a little absent-minded song. Really, she wanted something... anything... To do. Where was he? They could have already killed and maimed an entire family in the time it took him to arrive!
...Though at least that gave her some imagery to play with, which was always a nice touch. What would they do when he did get there? She was much bigger now... her father had called what she and her siblings were going through a 'growth spurt', whatever that meant.
She hadn't even thought about how much bigger that would make her than her friend...

 Doto trotted along with his ears flat against his skull, growling at any and every thing that dared to move around him and catch his attention. He had been in trouble at his den, again. It wasn't his fault his siblings were so much weaker than he was. He hadn't meant to 'play too rough' or 'be too mean'. Or if he had meant it, he was only being himself. It wasn't something he could control.
He continued to growl as he drew closer to their meeting place, though his ears perked forward when he heard her song on the air. His mood lifted slightly and he sighed, happy at least to have this to steal his attention away from his useless family.
"I'm sorry I'm late," he called, appearing from the tall grasses. He spied her and tilted his head. Something was different about her. They hadn't seen each other in a short while, and yet she seemed so much older now. And, more noticeably, bigger. In fact, he would estimate that she was larger than he was now. His tail twitched and his ears lowered again, "hey..."

"Oh finally!" Giza cried with relief, turning around to face her friend, "I was honestly so bored just now I could have DIED. I was waiting for... hey Doto... did you shrink or something?" She asked, blinking as she looked at him.
It didn't seem like it had been that long since they had last met up... but somehow Doto seemed... Well, noticably smaller and younger-looking than she was. He had been a little bigger than she was before, but now... Now she would have to say that she was most definitly the bigger of the two parties.
The laughter started off small. Very small. A snort. A giggle. But then it erupted into... well, something rather different. She full out laughed, grabbing at her chest so that she could actually breathe, "Oh! Oh! Oh Doto! You're so... So..." She gasped for breath, "I'm bigger than you are!" Then she fell over laughing, clearly in a much better mood now. Though Doto probably wasn't.

Doto squinted his eyes, his fur bristling with irritation. He was not used to being considered small, and it did not sit well with him that he was, in fact, actually smaller than her now. Frowning at the ground, he shook his head and sniffed indignantly. He wouldn't let her get the best of him. He was still proud, after all.
"I am not smaller. You just got bigger, you... fatty." It wasn't the best insult, but he was flustered and didn't know how to deal with it. He was often in charge of his emotions, after all, and being caught off guard like this unsettled him. He puffed his fur unconsciously, his muscles coiling.
He didn't enjoy being laughed at, and his tail beat the earth impatiently. He let her have her fun, frowning and scowling, heaving a sigh with every breath until she finally sputtered out some words he could reply to.
"You're not THAT much bigger! You're just older than I am, that's nothing to be so proud of! When I grow up, I'm going to be bigger than you anyway, so I guess you can just enjoy it now, when you can." He huffed, glad his dark fur was covering all traces of his blushing.

It took Giza a moment to get her breath back, but when she did, she listened to him, "If I'm fat, then I'll use it to squash you! Take it in good humor Doto!" She grinned, clapping him on the back with her now much larger paw.
"And like you said, I'm a girl, I'm bigger and older than you now, but unless I'm a giant monster like my dad, you'll probably be bigger than me!" Though it was likely that Giza would grow to be considerably bigger than most female lions, and possibly some males as well, she knew very well Doto would be quite large.
So she took advantage of her position while she could, "So I have to get in all my poking in now, before you're all big and scary, and I'll have to be afraid of you tormenting poor... helpess..." Something about the way she said 'helpless' led to the feeling that she would be distinctly the opposite of that, "Little old me."

Doto, fur sticking out at all angles as he bristled under her laughter, did his best to take it in stride. He scowled at her as she laughed, nodding his head impatiently as he waited for the fit to pass. He grinned at her, though, against his own will. Her laughter was infectious and, in a cosmic sort of way, he could see how it was funny for her.
"No, you can't squash me. My dad sits on my all the time, and I just don't need another fatty sitting on me," he grunted when her paw met his back, looking at her sharply with bright, almost playful eyes, "you can bet that I'll be bigger than you. There's no way I'm going to let you tease me like this forever."
He narrowed his eyes at her, grinning devilishly, "the ironic thing is, I think you would like it if I tormented poor... helpless," he echoed her voice, though he couldn't get the intonation just right, "little old you. And I wouldn't want to do anything that you might enjoy. That's not really the best kind of revenge."
He frowned thoughtfully, trying to think what his best move would be if he wanted to tease her and get some pride back, "I guess I would just have to be normal around you. Boring. I'd kill what I wanted to eat and let everything else live. And if you tried to do any of your art on anything, I'd kill it or take it away. So you wouldn't be able to. How's that sound?"

Giza seemed pleased that she had managed to make Doto smile with her, despite her teasing. She hadn't wanted to drive her friend away, certainly, but teasing was amusing. Plus, she couldn't resist a leg up when she found one. She supposed it came with her father's teaching. She was just glad that he understood that much.
"Awww, come on now, I'm not much of a fatty, am I?" Giza complained, lying out and grinning, "I'm just big and strong... unlike you, shorty." She grinned even more widely than before, "And you have to let me tease you at least for a little while if you're going to be all 'big and strong' like you say you are later." She giggled.
Then she paused, listening to what he said and tilting her head to the side, "You? Torment me? No... no I think not. Not unless it was one hell of a fun game where I could get you back." She grinned widely, stretching back, "But you're right... the best kind of revenge is the kind that I wouldn't enjoy. Wouldn't be any fun otherwise, now would it?"
Then he mentioned being normal and Giza groaned, "No! No! NO! I don't want to be any more booooored Doto! Don't do that to me! I'm your friend! How could you be so cruel?! I'll be nice! I'll be good! Just don't act like all those other idiots wandering about! We have better things to do than that!"

"If you keep calling my shorty, I'm going to have to be as boring as they come, and only have my fun during the day, when you're not around." He huffed, playfully. He moved to her and shoved her as she stretched, using his body to knock against hers in an effort to throw her off balance. Padding away, he grinned and looked back at her.
"Yup. You'll be bored and I'll be having fun the whole time. That would be awful for you! But I don't care. You asked for it. I know we're friends, but you're giving me no choice." He laughed, feigning cruelty. Puffing out his chest, he looked as big as he could get, still grinning teasingly. He shook his head at her pleading, shrugging his shoulders.
"Okay, how's this? I won't call you fatty, and you won't call me shorty. And we can just be friends like before and pretend you're not suddenly bigger than me, okay? Besides, I guess at least now we'll be able to play with bigger things, right?" His grin changed from playful to sinister as his eyes darkened, "so we've got that to look forward to."

Giza swayed a bit, but kept her balance, dismay on her face as Doto listed off ways he could torment her by being normal. She felt a little betrayed for a moment. She had such great ideas! Such big plans! So much to do! And if Doto backed out... well, where would all the fun be? No good. No good at all.
"Okay... I won't call you shorty." She agreed, pouting at him as she padded after him. She still seemed to be a little skeptical of the idea... until he mentioned that now that she was bigger, there would be much more fun games they could play.
"Hey..." She grinned, her sunny -or rather dark- disposition returning to her, "Hey! If I'm bigger now, you'll be bigger soon! And then we'll be able to catch other things... much bigger things... and we'll be able to do whatever we want with them! Not like little cubs anymore... we'll be able to get into the big leagues!" Though those were still quite far... but for Giza, they were all too close.

Doto flicked his tail and rolled his shoulders back, his shoulders back as he sat down again, looking vaguely disinterested, though it was a feigned expression. He grinned as she returned to herself, their usual banter falling back into place despite the new, and obvious, difference in their size.
"Exactly. We're just getting closer to our dreams. Our goals. And what will be, I have no doubt, our reality. We're moving into the future! Or... you are, since you're the one that's gotten bigger, but still. It's only a matter of time now, and from the looks of it we're going to be a ferocious team. No one will mess with us."
He padded the earth impatiently. Time was his enemy even more now than it had been before. He wanted to show an obvious growth like she had. He wanted to be even more intimidating than he believed he already was. Sighing, he knew he would just have to wait. There was literally no other choice.
Even if he hated it.
"So I know you have a kind of... weird family," he said conversationally, "now that you're bigger, are things going to change for you with them?"

Giza grinned, getting up and nodding along with everything that Doto said. She couldn't resist how happy it made her that her old friend was back in action... and that he wouldn't be wimping out on her. She knew it was entirely possible to become a feared and respected lion on her own... but she had a feeling she'd get more out of it if she had a friend who wanted all the same things she did. Doto was that friend. No sibling rivalry.
"Don't worry, you'll be bigger soon... we just have to be a little patient. No big deal." Giza decided, waving it off and giggling, "You just have to be able to laugh it off, take things too seriously, your brain will implode."
Then he mentioned about her family, which just made Giza blink curiously. Things change? She couldn't really imagine things being different... except maybe her and her siblings would be able to get more involved with their father and his bussiness.
"I don't know what you mean. We're a family. We do everything together. Well... maybe we'll be able to do more now that we're bigger... But I think that's about it. I mean, big daddy still has a lot to teach us." She told him, tilting her head to the side, "I don't see why anything else would happen."

Doto shrugged, "I don't know. I know in some families cubs have to do different things during their growth, and when they reach certain ages they are given tasks or something. Not in mine. My parents don't even know where I am, most of the time, much less care what I'm doing."
He sighed. He knew he would have to go back there soon. The last thing he wanted was for his father to come out looking for him, and find the spot he shared with Giza. He never spoke to his family, and they knew nothing about his friend or their strange goals together. And Doto would rather keep it that way.
"When..." he frowned, sighing, "when I match you in size, we should go after something bigger. Not a lion, yet, but something more dangerous. Rabbits and little prey beasts have been fun, but I think we could risk something... better. Don't you think?"

"Wierd... I mean, now that we're older, and we can do more... we do more... but nothing's really changed. We do all the stuff we used to do to..." She shrugged, "I couldn't see why a family would change. We'll probably always be the same."
But as to the idea of getting more... "Oh, you know we could do better... or maybe we just need to chase down something that's harder to catch... prove that we can do more than just do the easy stuff. I think we could move onto phase two of my plan." She rubbed her paws together thoughtfully.
What 'phase two' was exactly, she didn't say out loud... but she seemed to be looking forward to it, whatever it was.

"Phase two?" Doto echoed, eying her. He liked the sound of it, though he couldn't imagine what it might be. There was so much open to them, it was hard to envision any one 'step' of their evolution as hunters and, ultimately, names to fear. Whatever the next stage of their growth was, he was more than ready for it.
"I'm ready to try to take on something closer to an adult size. Gazelle's work, maybe even something in that same family, if we could swing it. I think it would be fun if we focused on that little unit, you know? The one we first used? If we could find them again, and pick off another one... I think it would be interesting to watch their reactions to it."
He grinned. The idea of watching terror sink in was an amazing one. The first attack must have been so random to the family, though he was not sure he knew how much that species could really understand. The second attack would be suspicious, raise concerns. Maybe by the third they would realize they were being targeted, but he hoped not. He wanted to watch them as panic got the better of them, and he wanted to see how they broke down under their work.

Giza grinned, moving closer to Doto, "You have the right idea... but that isn't entirely phase two. We could probably jump a gazelle, if we were clever enough... but we can't get one from the same group. Not yet. We need to get one that's in the same area... but belongs to a different group. One that will surely meet the last one. You catch my drift?" She asked, winking.
"They meet up, see their wounded... they'll know it was us. That we did it. We can even make them think this little spot of ours is haunted... anyone who comes in here is destined to be mauled, and left for dead... except not dead." Giza seemed to be very proud of this idea in particular. As far as she was concerned, she was being quite clever.
"What we really need to do is figure out how you and I can catch a big gazelle." She sighed, shaking her head, "I mean... I'm bigger... but gazelles are still... well, very big."
