(( Private rp between saedusk's Nakawara and my Temperance. No posting please! ))
It was always busy around the two-leggers' camp. People bustled to and fro, some followed by small animals while others by their Soquili. Everyone had a purpose and yet they all were smiling, and Teppy had to admit in the warm fall day it would be hard not to feel happy. As she stood by her two-leggers' teepee and nibbled on the grass, she let the cheer of the morning envelop her.
Normally Teppy was a very happy, confident creature but lately... she was feeling a bit lost. It seemed just like yesterday that she was a little filly, darting around her father's legs and causing all kinds of harmless trouble. With her family around she had never felt lonely, their presences comforting. But now she was full-grown, it was about time she found her own place. What that place might be, she hadn't a clue.
Turning away for a moment, she took another mouthful of the grass. She was glad the teepee was close to the forest, and not in the spacious clearing that made her nervous. Yet it was so busy that morning she doubted the clearing would bother her today.

The trot back through the trees turned out colder than expected. Nakawara had worked up a pretty good sweat on the last run and although out in the open sun he'd felt fine, the shade of the trees was cooling him off a little too quickly for his liking. It wouldn't be too much longer, though. Running all morning had left him ready for a break and the teepees weren't far off. Stepping out of the forest, he spotted the camp in the near distance. It wasn't a place he came very often. Wide open spaces were his first choice. There was more room to let loose and gallop that way. Considering running was his passion, such an ideal wasn't overly surprising.
Scooting away from the shade with a quickness, he let out a happy sound when the sun hit his pelt. The closer to winter it got, the more conflicted he felt. On the move, he was always warm. However, as soon as the motion stopped, shivering ensued. Whenever a break was needed, he was sure he'd freeze his fine fur off.
With a flick of his tail, he moved closer to the mainly unfamiliar territory, casting his gaze this way and that. It wasn't long before he spotted a mare at the side of a nearby teepee. Despite the fact that there was no shortage of other horses here, he couldn't help but think she looked alone. A possible playmate? He was willing to find out. Grinning, he stepped closer, calling out a short "Hey!" as he went.

Finishing her miniature meal, Teppy shook out her long her mane and let it drape like a curtain about her neck. Though she wasn't a particularly vain mare she was proud of it and her long tail too, and it showed in the care she gave it. She wasn't expecting anyone to speak to her and she was a bit startled, stepping closer to the teepee.
"Oh, hello there," she greeted in return with a smile. Her bright, curious cyan eyes studied him for a moment. Judging by his appearance, he had just come back from doing some kind of physical activity. "Were you working?"

Well, at least he hadn't scared her off. Sometimes others considered his happy-go-lucky personality annoying. What had they said...? Pushy? Rude? Ah well. He was very friendly. Maybe just a little bit too friendly. Returning the smile, he came up along her side, examining the patch of grass she'd been nibbling at with an idle expression. He felt a bit hungry himself. There would be plenty of time for snacking later, though.
"I was just running," he told her, grin widening. There was nothing better than running free. "It's a good day for it, not to hot, not too cold." Minus the trek through the trees, of course. "I'm Nakawara." His tail flicked out behind him once more, turning the loose markings into an even greater blur of blue and silver. "What's your name?"

Teppy smiled warmly. She loved others when they were friendly, even if they were a little over the top. Teppy got along with just about anyone... except if they were trying to eat her. Or throwing insults at her but this stallion was obviously not doing either. She nodded. "I'm glad it's not freezing yet... I was born in the winter, but I don't remember it very well." She laughed a little, thinking about how her coat had been such a suitable colour for the time of year.
"I'm Temperance, but just about everybody calls me Teppy," she replied with another small nod, before lifting her head high. "You like to run?" After standing around most of the morning the mare was starting to feel a little bit cooped up. Perhaps she would follow Nakawara, even if it was just to get away from the teepee for a while. "Where are you headed now?"

"I don't even remember what season I was born in, so you're doing pretty good for yourself," he said, a joking tone in his voice. It was true, he couldn't remember much of anything about his time as a colt. Maybe that was why he had such a foal-like attitude. Just making up for lost time. It made life fun. "Nice to meet, you! I can call you Teppy, then?" He felt inclined to ask, even though she'd said everyone. It was in his nature. Tossing his head and flipped his braided main to the other side, he looked back the way he'd come. "I love to run." He grinned. "It's my favorite thing." Looking back to her, he canted his head. "Well, I just came back here to take a break... I... I don't really know." He laughed. "I haven't thought about where to go next."

"Haha, yes of course!" Teppy said, with a good-natured laugh. "Temperance sounds so stuffy." Perhaps when she was older she would prefer going by her full name, but for now she liked her younger, shorter nickname. "Do you have a nickname, Nakawara?" she teased a little, returning the grin.
For a moment Teppy watched the bustle of two-leggers. It was slowing down now that many of them were moving on to their tasks for the day. She watched a mother as she sewed a hide, her young child tottering around beside her. She hoped the little one wouldn't stumble into anyone's path.
"Would you like to go somewhere then? There's an apple tree growing on a hill not far from here. It's one of my favourite places," she smiled as she said it. As a foal in spring she had watched the tree blossom and grow fruit. And it was by the forest, so she didn't need to step out into the open to get there. "There's a stream in the forest not far from it too."

With a kindhearted smile, Nakawara nodded. He was more than happy to call her Teppy, too, now that she'd assured it was alright. If he could make her feel more comfortably by keeping to that shorter version, he was more than willing to do so. At her question, he canted his head, looking momentarily thoughtful. "A nickname for me?" Well, he supposed there were some who called him by a shorter version of his name. "I've been called Naka before by some friends. You can call me that, too, if ya want."
Taking a step back, he pawed at the ground placidly for a moment. "I'd love ta go see an apple tree!" he exclaimed at her following invitation. He couldn't remember the last time he had. It was too bad that the autumn was probably too far gone for there to be any good fruit still hanging. "It's great that you can show me your favorite place, so maybe you can see one'a mine someday." He nodded affirmatively. It sounded like a good plan to him, anyway.

"Okay Naka," Teppy said cheerfully. She raised her head proudly, striped mane framing her elegant face. Already she was feeling a bit better now that she had something to do, even if it was just showing Nakawara around. "There's a few apples on it, but they are starting to drop off before I can eat them all... I could use the help before they all go bad." She giggled, happy to share the tasty red and green fruit.
"It's this way, through the forest. I take it you aren't afraid to wander in the trees?" She grinned, starting towards the trees at a leisurely place. "Some Soquili I've met are very scared, but I don't really see why." Playfully she pranced and picked up her pace, looking back at Nakawara.

"Through the trees is great," he assured, nodding faster and faster with growing excitement. He often found himself wandering through the forest to get from one clearing to another. While it wasn't possible for him to race at top speed, he would often trot around the towering tree giants for fun. It helped to keep his reaction time up, if nothing else.
Grinning, he picked up his own pace to keep up. "We better hurry, right?" He called, playing along. "Those apples might wither up before we can even get ta them. Then I won't be any bit of help. I don't like withered apples!" He laughed.

"Yeah, every second that goes by they're getting more wrinkled. Like an old two-legger." Teppy made a face, then stepped up her pace even more. There was no going all out in the forest but for a mare who had grown up in the trees, she made moving look effortless. She avoided roots, rocks, and anything else in her way without much visible effort. It was a talent developed over seasons of wandering through the brush.
The seasonal mare was glad that he wasn't afraid of the forest. If he was they would have to go the long way, which meant trekking through the clearing. If anything it was the open space that scared her. She could vaguely remember being reluctant to out grow her basket because the small space was warm and safe. Clearings in her mind were dangerous, exposed, and downright frightening.
She skirted around a few young saplings. This was a younger part of the forest, the oldest trees barely the width of a human. "See that patch of green, to the left?" Teppy asked, cyan eyes narrowed slightly as she peered through the foliage. "Head over that way, and we'll be there in no time!"

Even as they moved along, the pace picking up and forcing him to concentrate more, he couldn't help but laugh, tossing his head back at her comparison. "An old two-legger, ya say?" His childish imagination had him thinking about it far too much. The image of an old granny two-legger's head was in his mind, wrapped around the shape of an apple and, for whatever reason, able to talk and scold him lightly for running too fast near the teepees. Knowing better than to share his strange idea, he chuckled instead, just shaking his head and the thought away when he'd realized he had fallen behind the mare.
Able to catch up near the saplings, he lifted his gaze to where she was speaking of. Silver eyes narrowed, as well, searching until they caught sight of the patch he was sure she was talking about. Grinning, Nakawara tossed his head once more. "I bet I could beat ya to it!" he challenged, knowing that he probably wouldn't have an advantage in the trees, even the small, young ones. But he was a racer and always willing to try. With a snort, he sped up.

Nakawara seemed to take her comment with very good humour. Seeing him enjoying himself made Teppy smile. If she still had any of her worries lingering in her current thoughts, they were definitely locked away somewhere deep in her mind now. At least for the moment.
She laughed too, leading the way with a few happy bounds. "I want to see you try. First one up the hill gets first choice of apples!" Teppy glanced over her shoulder at Naka to see he was speeding up already. Well, he wouldn't get past her that easily. Avoiding a little sapling and some prickly brush, the mare sped up too. She lengthened her stride and lowered her head just a little, continuing to speed up until she couldn't go any faster from the danger of running into something, or tripping and hurting herself.
Ahead of them the young trees thinned out a little more, and the terrain began to slope upwards. It would be a smoother run up the hill to where Teppy's apple tree grew, but the slope would make it a challenge of endurance. If she wasn't careful, she would wear herself out trying to run up the hill too fast.

Seeing her stance, he too leaned forward, willing his back legs to push him faster. It didn't take long before he was near the fastest stride he could reach with obstacles. In fact, there was a slight annoyance in the back of his childish mind everytime he had to slow and weave around a sapling too large to step over. "I hope you're ready ta eat all the granny ones, then!" he joked loudly, laughing against the wind their run created.
When the foliage finally began to thin, Nakawara thoughtlessly picked up the pace further, trained legs spurred on by a practiced nature. It didn't matter to him that the slope was becoming much greater, despite his breaths coming heavier. While endurance was something he was born with, he didn't generally take it into account. He was an all-out runner, perhaps a bit too careless, who would push on until he collapsed where challenge was involved. "Haha, I see ya, Teppy!" He called over to the female as he reached her side, silver eyes leaving the path long enough to glance over at her.
