Last week at our competition EVERYONE there was screwed over by the judges there (who were idiots, by the way). Our band had the highest score there, and it was only an 87.something, which was really sad. And our band director told us that during a solo they thought another section should've been playing louder (which is sad, because the soloist has most of our color guard tossing rifles around him... xd ). And we were the first band to perform, but they compared our show to some of the other bands there. (Pretty stupid.) So, yeah, we were pretty angry.
But what feels even better is showing those judges how stupid they were with your score the next week. We got a 92 yesterday, were chapter champions, and are ranked 5th right now overall. (We were ranked 14th overall last week...) I hope those judges see that and see how stupid they were. >D We're all really happy right now.
Anything like this ever happened to your band?

last night the visual judge on the field got in the way of an advancing straight line with a diagonal attached... so, the peak of the point where the diagonal attached ( me ) wasnt on his dot so..yeah...YAY...
plus he really was in the wrong place at the wrong time a lot...
it was pathetic

Last year, our band went to region and they went there with the mind set of " There's no way we're making the second round." We did. So, our band preformed again really excited. We were ONE point from making the finals. Just ONE STUPID POINT! I would've killed the judge if I was in band that year, but hey we got in the local newspaper! wink

We haven't had that opportunity yet, though...

Ok so my band lost by like .200 of point to this group Nazareth from Penn. I have nothing against them but just how they acted. My band learned not to scream and act like morons when we get our awards, but they (from my viewpoint) looked like they were rubbing in a bit. i mean seriously. It's just a competition where judges have an opinion on something. But anyways the judges thought wrong on that .200 of a point, but I am not being little miss nags a lot about it.

It happened my freshman year, although I never knew and don't remember the exact details about why or what we got. All I know is that I remember my band director telling us about what happened. He walks into the judges tent after another director has cussed out the judges and goes calmly to them and says "this is WRONG. Our band deserved better than that" and walks out.
It also happened to us again this year. The judges even said that their vantage point for the overall effect judging was bad. We got the exact same score from the week before and we know that we did so much better. bah.

We were screwed over last night. We got excellents(45+ points) all season, and we were expecting 70+ points because last week we got a 69.something. There is another band from our area who has been getting 70+ all season when they deserved less then 45! Anyway, so we finish, last band, and awards come around. Well, they got a superior with distinction(Best you can get!) and we get another excellent. We were MAD! They did not deserve that. Superior with distinction means you got most captions as well as a superior(70+) and did a great job. They didn't. Just by the sound of the crowd, you knew we did better. For them, it was a low rumble. For us, it was screams so loud I went deaf! They were right before us, so we saw and herd their performance. We went home and ended our season with an excellent and no captions. That was a long, 3 hour busride home...

Nazareth...I think they got first at USSBA championships on Saturday, I recognize that name. I think the judges just like to keep a band living up to it's name..."Well, this band has done well in the past, let's make their egos get higher!"
If you don't mind me asking, what band are you in?

When I watched the other bands we were against at state finals, I thought that we should have come in at least 3+, not sixth.

Not saying this to be mean or anything but Judges are non biased. They don't compare you to other bands and don't give you bad scores just because they don't like you. My BD is a judge in his spare time so he tells us all the time how we will be scored. It all depends on what the individual judge is looking for and how you preform.
Just because you get a score you're not happy with doesn't mean the judge had it in for you.

Just because you get a score you're not happy with doesn't mean the judge had it in for you. Actually, the problem with this judging system is the main reason why we're considering not doing ToB next year. The judges DID compare us to other bands, by name, and one of the judges was even on the staff of a band that was at that competition. I wouldn't blame the judges if we got a bad score if we deserved it, but these judges brought down the scores of every single band there. I'm not saying that the judges had it in for us or something, just that they didn't judge in the way that they're supposed to.

At one contest, the judges didnt let us go into finals at the contest. It was awful. Bands that had horible shows and sounded terrible went onto finals at that contest and we didnt! stressed
