All was quiet in the northern-most part of the Oasis. Snow fell silently onto the ground in the silence. Winter was drawing on the land, so all of the birds had flown to warmer climates and most of the smaller animals had bedded down for the long sleep. But all was not completely quiet near the borders. More evil creatures had found their way into the Oasis. And they were led there by Evil herself...
Mirage lay in her cave , lounging on a pile of furs as the snow fell outside and the heroes of the Oasis battled those she had led into the safe haven those goody-goodies had made for themselves. Even the in theory evil doers there were good at heart! And that was just wrong! So there she lay, watching the heroes of the Oasis battle against her truly evil foes in her magic-made "mirrors". And her minions were losing. She frowned as a tiny black and white otter ran circles around a bulky foe twice his size, shouting taunts through his laughter to rile his opponent. Her eyes narrowed as a red-eyed, black winged otter tore into a horned demon otter, the demon screeching as his blood arched into the air. "They're too powerful. I guess I need to find stronger opponents," she mused between her fangs, rolling over onto her back to stare up at the ceiling in annoyance.

With ease Fashir slipped into the den and walked over to Mirage peering down at her and blocking her view of the ceiling. One might wonder how he managed to slip in anywhere so unnoticed, or how he could maneuver himself so well despite being a blindfolded old wolf.
"Hello again Mirage..." His voice was weary, as if he was tired after traveling some long distance. Who knew how hard or easy it really had been for him to find this feline once again. He moved his head about ears perking, one would think he were examining the room, if he had eyes with which to do so.

Sour mood made doubly worse by the appearance of the blindfolded wolf, Mirage wrinkled her nose at him, but it wasn't in distaste or disgust or anything. Just a "what the hell are you doing here?" kind of look. She rolled over and sat up, frowning at him. "Fashir. Did you follow me all the way here? Stalker," she muttered the last word under her breath and banished her mirrors with a flick of her tail. It didn't matter much anyways. She had glanced once to she the bulky otter fall to the smaller, faster, more skilled one, meaning her agents had gotten themselves beaten. No need to watch anymore. "Well, you must have had a reason for coming here. What do you want?" she hissed a bit at him as she spoke, though there was no malice in it. Deep, DEEP down, she had missed his presence, even if it was annoying most of the time. Her heart may have been hardened by the effects of her evil magic and duties, but a small part of it still ached for what she had once had.

"I had hoped you would welcome some company...I followed you a long way to this place." He sat down and turned his face to 'gaze' down at her a small smirk on his muzzle.
"But I knew you would probably spurn me, so I came as well to offer you a warning, this place is at peace there are many good creatures here Mirage, many families struggling to find their way. I will not allow you to destroy their possible happiness with your malice." He nodded and remained seated, he had hoped that she would brush away his warning and invite him to stay, but those days were long gone.
He tried not to focus on her alluring scent, the desire to bring his muzzle down to brush her soft fur. He remained still, a statue, who would have guessed the ocean of passion that lay within this old wolf.

"Company is only a distraction and a bother, Fashir. You should know that by now," Mirage huffed back, smirking back at him. All it was was banter, but it was... something. She couldn't forgive him for long ago, but she could admit deep down that even though his company was an annoying reminder, she still liked it, being this close to having what they once had. "And you should know that there is no balance here. You can try and stop me, Fashir, but you will fail," she replied, her paws kneading the furs beneath them slightly as her frustration mounted.

"There is already a dark force stirring into action in this place Mirage...let the others be." He sighed and shook his head.
"If you insist though, so be it, but I will remind you little one that the reason you had to flee here, was because I have thwarted your efforts before." He stood slowly and stretched a bit.

Mirage frowned, gritting her teeth at his chide. He hadn't called her "little one" in so long. Once, she might have purred at that pet name, but not now. Now it felt like something rubbing her fur the wrong way, all over. "Don't you think I realize it? I'm Evil itself, Fashir, I think I would know when creatures were doing evil, wherever I happened to be," she growled back, shaking her head. He was such an arrogant... wolf, sometimes. "And I didn't flee. I moved on. Need I remind you that I've put you in spots of trouble before as well!" she hissed, standing and walking past him, her shoulder purposefully bumping his. Another flick of her tail and the mirrors returned. It broken into smaller pieces, each one of them a separate creature in the Oasis, and each one with enough evil in their hearts to attract her attention. "I'm not blind, Fashir. I. Know. What. I. Am. Doing."

"Yes you seem to enjoy causing me trouble, but I cannot hold you responsible for all your actions...after all I may be the only one who knows what your true nature was once like. The claws of chaos sank into you and dragged away the heart of the Mirage I once knew..." and have always loved. He sighed and shook his head at his own foolishness. If only he could put aside his love for Mirage he might be more effective in ending her wickedness, yet how could he smother what was a part of his own soul?
He twisted his head and stared at her, the stare was made eerily more effective by the lack of eyes, his uncanny ability to see without them. "You know, but you no longer see, your blindness Mirage is far more dishabilitating then my own."

Mirage was turned away from him when he spoke about the past. Oh, how she hated it, especially when HE brought it up. "The past is nothing," she spat back at him, her eyes narrowed as she flicked away the magic portals. She shook her head, almost biting back a scornful laugh. Chaos had nothing to do with it. In fact, she rather didn't like the cat, unless he could be of use to her mischief. He was too powerful, much more than she or Fashir, and that scared her. And she hated being afraid. She opened her mouth to bite a retort back at him, but none came. Part of her thought about telling him that there was nothing left of the old Mirage, or that perhaps there had never been anything in the first place or that it was all his fault that they might have been able to live in balance should he have accepted her as what she had taken upon her shoulders. But nothing came, just as it always had. No biting retorts, no scalding jibes. Just nothing.
She closed her mouth and her tail flicked angrily. "I don't know what you're talking about. I see perfectly well," she replied lowly, though most of the hiss was gone.

"Denial is a powerful force, someday you will once again be able to see with your heart Mirage...that is the power of love." He sighed and turned away heading back to the entrance of the den reluctant to leave, yet too pained to stay.
He understood balance after all he had his hand in some of it, but to see his beloved performing the other half was a disturbing and mildly humbling experience. Perhaps fate had chosen her on purpose to test their love and keep them at arms length.
It pained him to think that while his heart remained utterly devoted hers had been incased in ice, the power of evil was in stealing his hope.

She could have said it, she had once before. But that argument was moot. Fashir had proven his point, that love could triumph, though she was certain she was right as well. Not every evil in the world was orchestrated by her, she just monitored it. Despite what anyone might think, she had limits and rules about how much evil could go on and whatnot. When things got too bad, she feel it humming strongly in her mind. And when things got really bad, it was an almost painful thrum. So she'd put her paw in and bother some would-be hero towards the direction of what she wanted done. She certainly wasn't good, since she was causing the hero grief in the first place. Evil ruler takes over and gets too powerful? Persuade him to kidnap the sweetheart or something like that of an exceptional young person. She couldn't count how many times that ploy had failed because love WASN'T strong. "Seeing with the heart clouds the mind, Fashir. You of all people should know this," Mirage shot back, her tone bitter. As soon as the words left her mouth, a tiny part of her cringed in regret. But even the old Mirage had refused to lose an argument. She just hadn't been the type to use such low blows.

Fashir twisted his head and stood still for a long moment before growling and turning away. He moved with such speed and silence from the den that one might think he had vanished into thin air.
On the ground in the dust, for a moment lay a single crystaline drop, but it quickly faded into the earth.

Mirage sighed as she watched him go, curling up in a frustrated ball on her warm carpet. He'd never understand...
