Okay, I know this doesn't make sense but let me explain.
We all know what type of class and how old these Fire Emblem characters are. Well, I was thinking of what would happen if these characters are in our modern times. So what type of jobs or life style would these Fire Emblem characters would live?
To me, I think Karel would do well (and look good) as a homicidal detective. He looks like the type of person to hunt down criminals and *ahem* bring them to justice. As for others who are 21 or younger, I think they would be perfect as students from different type of school.

Huh...
Bartre I could see being a longshoreman or a sanitation worker. Lots of brute forces involved, there.
I could see Kent as a policeman. :3

All the Fire Emblem games, Older Soren. I didn't specify which Fire Emblem game should we display on. Therefore, it can be anyone.
I think Stefan would make a good senator or ambassador of the country. Trying to make peace and negotiate between the two countries together.

Matthew would be a secret agent working for a government somewhere so that he could do illegal things legally. I think so, anyway.
Ninian . . . would be in a job where she could help people, like a nurse or something.
Eliwood would be either a police officer or a government official, one who actually wasn't corrupted.

I could see Soren working as a Librarian. *Shot for picking a corny decision* Or, he could pull stunts like Criss Angel. xD Make everyone wonder how the heck he did his magic. xp
Ike? He would easily be a police officer, or a Fireman. It's a people job, and hey, he has the strength to do both. Hate to be that poor fool who tries to run away if he was a cop. xd
Titania: Self defense teacher. Do I really have to explain?
Marcia: Gymnist. She has the energy, and is fairly bubbly.
Mist: Swimming Athlete. Mostly because of her affinity with Water.
Boyd: Boxer. xp They'd call him the Killing Axe. *Snicker*
Shinon: I think I can see him as a Homicidal Detective too. He gives that evil glare and scares the living daylight out of the guilty. xD
Rolf: Soccer player. Don't know why, really, just seemed fitting, I guess?
Gatrie: He would be like one of those matchmakers for people. Since it helps people find love and he thinks he'll find it too in turn.
Ilyana: A secretary. She's nice and a hard worker, but take away her lunch break, and she'll sooner take a bite out of you.

Hector would be General. Yes, I know he's a General in those times too... but is there any other profession for him?
Lyn... hm. Hard one. Since she's a tough fighter... I dunno? A karate instructor? sweatdrop
Eirika would be a model. *shot*
Ephriam would be a male model. *shot again*
Forde would be either a photographer or modern painter, while Kyle would be a secret agent, or a commissioned military officer. They'd live in the same apartment. XD
Tana's a beauty queen, hands down.
Sue would be an artist... j/k. I'm just saything that because I'm trying to be an artist...
She'd actually make a good counselor... being so calm and all. Her and Rathy both! I dunno if they like to solve other's problems... but in modern times, they're calm enough for it.
Serra would own a beauty salon.
Erk would be a professional student scientific researcher.
Last... but not least.
Rock star Nils and Ninian as his backup dancer? That would be so awesome! XDD

So can I! *shot* I thought of another! Lucius being the head of an adoption agency! He owns an orphanage in FE 6, right? Marcus would a retired war hero, showing off his medals to new recruit Lowen. Rebecca running a flower shop? Florina, Fiora, and Farina... a singing trio. Legault would be a merchant on the 'black market'. And Merlinus, a vendor at a Flea Market! xd And... is it funny that I imagine Dorcus and Bartre as pro boxers, or pro basketball players? Karla would be Bartre's cheerleader. *shot again*

Serra looks more like a fashion designer type to me. Always trying to get in with the trends.

However, I have a feeling that that's not what he wanted. I agree with you about Vai-*shot* Makalov looks like a hair stylist type to me.
