It was that time of year again. November. Time for the hospital to open its doors to visitors and patrons alike. Time to promote awareness for the hospital. Time, Dragon thought bitterly, to stand here in the freezing cold with a smile on my face and my fingers slowly contracting frostbite.
Dragon had been selected as a greeter from the interns, for his stellar performance in the emergency room. Also, for his superiors to give him a bit of a break. Freezing to death is a funny kind of break. The intern thought, blowing into his hands to warm them up. No one's up this time of day, and no one's going to stop by until later. I don't understand why I have to be out here.
Dragon was not alone, however. The willow tree that he'd dubbed "Leafy" slowly hovered around his legs, headed up to his torso, circled his head, then began again. But mostly, the small tree was focusing on the intern's chest - like he was interested in it. I'll have to make a point of showing him my stethoscope later. Dragon thought with a smirk. Perhaps he wants to be a cardiologist when he grows up. But that was a silly thought, according to what Draco knew to be true. On the other hand - a while ago, the thought that he'd have a constant arboreal companion would have been insane, so who knew. Maybe the tree WOULD grow up. Into... a larger tree. Or something.
People started coming earlier than Draco expected. But that really wasn't that much of a stretch. After all, the Director had said to be prepared for anything. He greeted people, and escorted them into the main area, where there were activities and flyers, as well as free food, and free flu shots and checkups for whoever needed them. This all was Dragon's idea, as it were, and the Director took it and ran with it. From the way he saw it, Dragon was right about helping all classes of people, and he wanted to show appreciation in the way that his intern had suggested. So guess who got stuck with greeter's duty.
Leafy, on the other hand, was thrilled. So many new people! So many new sights and sounds! He'd never come with Dragon on any of his shifts, so this entire experience was new and exhilarating for the young willow. He hoped beyond all hope that he'd see Rune or the others again. Dragon was great company, but sometimes it was nice to have someone else to talk to, and share these incredible things with!

The hypodermic needle slowly withdrew from the pallid white flesh and the nurse on hand bandaged the area neatly. The long white sleeve that had been pulled up for the shot rolled its way down and Raizen pushed himself up from the seat. Several of the visitors in line looked more comforted by the fact one of the doctors had gotten a flu shot - and that had been the point. He gently brushed back the long bags that fell before his features and smiled at them before he quietly excused them, being himself and his hidden companion, from the crowd.
This exhibition had been an excellent idea and those who had already arrived seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. The free food was warm and wonderfully prepared, thanks to his brother Damien, and tempted even those fearful of the rumors surrounding doctors to come inside. Among the steaming concoctions was a hot chocolate machine, which Raizen visited briefly before heading to the door.
Dragon would not long be cold, for from behind him, a warm coat was gently draped and the mug of cocoa offered with just that right amount of marshmallows. "Good morning, sunshine." the very familiar voice whispered, and then leaned in to kiss his brother's cheek in the dearest affection.
As though taking example of this, the wind cautiously slid from his place and down to the level of the hovering Willow. The colorful tendrils loosely draped themselves around the tree and portrayed a symbol he had seen the doctor drawing earlier, a heart, albeit a little sloppy. He was happy he got to see so many new things, especially besides the Willow, whom struck him as valiant in his vigilant guard of the shivering intern.

Dragon took the cup willingly, and sighed into it, the steam of his warm breath against the icy air mixing with the wafting vapor from the hot cocoa's aromatic heat mixing with the same. He turned tired eyes to look at Raizen, and gave a gentle smile. The kind that had drawn 'Leafy' to the intern in the first place - much as Rune had been drawn to Raizen for some reason. Accepting the affection with a nuzzle of his own, he leaned back against Rai's chest, and closed his eyes, holding the cocoa to warm up his hands for a while before he took a sip. He didn't want to burn his tongue. While he waited, he talked.
"Mornin'..." Dragon replied, shivering a little against his older brother. "The Open-House going well?" he asked. "I know it was my idea, but they don't have to make me stand out here in the freezing cold as a greeter."
He paused to finally take a sip of the hot liquid. The chocolate taste was strong and good as it slid down into his stomach, and continued to warm him up from there, the sensation spreading from gullet upward, and then finally down to his feet and toes - the most susceptible parts.
"I see you got your shot. I got mine earlier today. When they called me in. At four in the morning."
He opened his eyes to glare at Rai - but it was a friendly challenge. He really wasn't mad at the man. Just would have preferred he pulled a few strings when/if he found out about this.
"You know how cold it is out here at four in the morning?"
