User ImageStyx trudged along the sandy shore of the Ocean, his eyes still blinking wildly as he attempted to readjust to the light. As always he was mumbling strange sentiments under his breath with each step, his hair flowing in the salty breeze and his breath raspy and deep after his long nap near the hanging trees. "Curse the sun, who does she think she is waking people up like that. Has she never heard of manners. If she wasn’t a woman I would bite her head off without a seconds hesitation." Pausing to yawn his opened his mouth wide and titled his head upwards, the glowering light from the sun caught him sharply causing him to stumbled backwards towards the Ocean as he blinked rapidly in discomfort, cursing obscurities beneath his breath. Evidently it was not his day, perhaps not his month if he was completely honest with himself.

Straightening himself once more, he noted the flash of movement beside him, his eyes darted to the waters sleeky surface as he saw the image of a handsome Soquili looking back at him, evidently he was one of the water breeds, how else could he survive under the water for so long. He swayed his tail defensively from side to side, and a sudden realisation poured over him as he noted that the other creature was doing the same, and in exactly the same direction as himself. Anger spread, how dare such a creature attempt to challenge him, did they not know who he was.

Rearing himself high on his hind legs he rose from the ground, he would show this creature the true meaning of fear just like so many before him. In a sudden rush his heart began to pound as his powerful form crashed into the waters sleek surface, the colours mixing and dancing below his feet. His eyes watched, licking his lips in satisfaction he turned himself back into the direction he had been moments before, as he continued to mumble once more. "Pathetic creature didn’t even put up much of a fight." Chuckling menacingly to himself he stopped in his tracks once more, this time to allow his eyes to lap indulgingly upon his surroundings. It seemed quiet yet there was the possibility of movement ahead. Lowering his head so it touched the sun warmed sand he kept his eyes on the movement ahead, his tail held high in the air as he continued to ramble to himself. "Think they can scare me do they, well I will show them."

The sun shone with a new intensity, today would be the start of a great adventure, if only Styx knew it.

The smell of the ocean rose to Bodhi on the air. She could see it ahead of her, sunlight twinkling off the waves. It was beautiful sight and she smiled to behold it. She took these trips to the ocean with her father from time to time. The chill of autumn meant that they probably wouldn't be doing much swimming, a sad thought to the mare on the wind. Swimming felt almost like flying to her, a weightless suspension. It would be hard waiting for spring to come with warm weather again.

Her father, not having wings, had to walk to their meeting spot. Sometimes Bodhi walked with him but today had been one for flying. She hadn't taken the most direct route there which gave her father time to catch up. She usually wasn't there for long before he would arrive.

She dipped lower and saw the stretch of white sand beneath her. She began to bank down for a landing and only then noticed that there appeared to be another soquili already on the beach. She was too high to take note of much beyond it's general color and veered closer out of curiosity. Sand sprayed up around her as she landed. She was a little distance behind the stranger and could see that his back was turned on her, focused upon something else.

His tail... could he be...

She trotted forward and her eyes widened with surprised delight when she confirmed her suspicion. "A kelpi! You're a kelpi!" she exclaimed with a smile.

Styx turned suddenly in response to the voice, the comment reached his ears causing him to tut before mumbling once more, "well aren’t you the most observant beast that ever roamed the land." Chuckling to himself he allowed his eyes to take in her details. "Kelpi, HA! Of course I am…" His eyes noted her wings, they seemed somehow unusual to any he had lay eyes upon before, "not a bloody flower now am I!" Slowly he rolled his eyes and walked away from the Ocean, there was always something calming about being around others during the day, the creature that wriggled and longed for freedom inside him preferred the darkness and the cover of night.

He stepped away from the waters shore, his mind all but forgetting the scenario that had unfolded between him and the creature that stared at him from its shiny depths. Smiling in an almost menacing manor he began to circle the winged creature, mumbling his observations, "Weak legs, strong wings, and good back…" he paused as if trying to remember something that he had long forgotten. What was the saying, good strong back in a woman usually meant they where "better at childbirth." Satisfied he continued to circle her before standing before her, his red eyes piercing to anyone who looked at them, he felt that they could capture an image of the soul who caught eye contact with him. "Let me guess," his grin increased revealing several pointy fang like teeth, "a mutant."

Bodhi's smile faltered as soon as the kelpi started talking. She huffed in disapproval. Who was he to talk to her like that? She couldn't remember anyone she had ever met that had treated her so rudely. Her pride pricked, she tossed her head back and drew herself up. She was not intimidated by this rude little minnow of a kelpi.

When he circled her he crossed the line from rude to creepy... and the line about being "better at childbirth" made her gasp in affront. Now he had done it. Pretending she hadn't noticed the fangs in his mouth she flared out her wings around her for a dramatic effect. "Mutant? No." She stretched her wings to their full extent and beat them downwards once. The sand thrown into the air from the force of the gust billowed around her. And hopefully into his eyes, she thought in a quiet and angry voice.

"I am an angeni."

In truth, Bodhi was only a fourth angeni, much as she might wish she was more. Her wings were similar to those of her mother... but she thought that her mother might be part angeni herself. The feathers on her head came from her grandmother, an angeni, so she considered them another angeni trait.

"I suppose that a kelpi like you probably doesn't get to meet many angenis so I'll forgive you for not recognizing me." She managed to pull a smile back to her face with that. "But I'll forgive you. Don't worry yourself."

Styx completely ignored her grunts and moaning, her slightly defensive posture escaped him as his eyes caught sight of the blades of grass swaying carelessly below her hooves. It was something that always fascinated him, despite the worries of the world there was always something so simplistic about its shining glory. Snapping back into the conversation his snarl impulsively grew as he watched the winged mare spread her wings, it was a sign that he liked, accepting it as a challenge of dominance, a challenge he would gladly accept. He held his tail as high as he could into the air, the fins flaring in distaste as a mild growl erupted from his lips. His eyes glowed as the suns snake like tongues caressed the horizon, warming his flesh.

As the creature before him spoke he couldn’t help but laugh. This creature believed she was an angeni, his eyes scanned her once more before he concluded she was a "fake" angeni. Grunting he spoke with awareness, his words designed to be heartless, the challenge had been written and now he needed to see how far he could push his luck. "Pretender."

Then her words stirred emotions he had suppressed for years, he had met an angeni, "how dare you" he grunted, his words snarling. There was something about those around him assuming they had knowledge of him and his experiences, they could never truly understand him or his punishment from the Gods that shone as stars in the evening sky. They could "never" comprehend the darkness that wriggled and crawled within him, consuming his night and haunting his days. Spitting on the ground he raised his head, his eyes narrowed with anger as he allowed his thoughts to think about the Angeni that had scorned him. It was a look he had seen many times in his life, at first the actions stung at his heart, the knowledge of his fate inescapable as the markings slowly started to consume him and his original name. Yet it was his "curse" to deal with.

A strange sensation flickered upon his soul as the warm of the sun cleared his mind. The reds of his eyes flickered and glared at her. He was watching and waiting.

Bodhi was starting to wonder about this kelpi. Through a force of will she kept herself still and poised but internally her mind was working. Was he a jerk... or something else? Something didn't seem right. She had never met a kelpi so it could be a difference in species that made him act like that... made him act simultaneously insulting and threatening at the same time.

At the "pretender" comment, she bristled. He says I'm anything other than an angeni? How dare he! Her thought was in an eerie sort of synchronization of the kelpi's second utterance. It was because of this that the tone of it didn't register in her mind as much as it should have. She had never encountered any creature that had seriously wanted to hurt her and it was difficult to believe that this one would do her harm in any physical sort of way... and if he just meant to verbally abuse her that was something she was more than capable of fighting back against.

"How dare me? How dare you," she snapped in righteous anger. "My grandmother was an angeni and the blood has run pure through me. The feathers on my head were hers directly." She lifted her head a little higher and repeated herself. "I am angeni."

Styx allowed his eyes to fall towards the sun, there was always something soothing, almost calming about it. Unlike the night and its lack of light the day time seemed to have the power to suppress most of his urges, not all though as was evident from his displaced conversations but it was still an improvement. Yawning softly he looked at the mare before him, she seemed unusual, but as far as he could tell she was defiantly not an Angeni, whether she pretended to be or not, perhaps she was so naive that she simply could not distinguish between herself an her grandmother, he had met many on his travels that seemed deluded the point that reason could not reach them, but as he watched and listened he noted a shimmer behind the mares eyes that he did not recognise, perhaps she was "different" in some small way. Shaking his mane so that the strands slumped lazily around his face he lowered his posture so that the arch of his back was more visible, whatever was different about this mare it was starting to irritate him a little. Thinking of the sunlight he attempted to contain himself. His mind slightly clearer than before; so that his sentences appeared more controlled and purposeful.

"That’s very nice for you," he spoke with a slight grunting tone lingering within each word, he did not mean to be rude to anyone but often his unsocial behaviour made him come across harsher than anticipated. Continuing he looked to the skulls on his harness perhaps she was attempting to be friendly by disclosing information of such nature, a sharp toothed smile appeared awkwardly upon his lips as he continued, such behaviour seemed unnatural to him. "These skulls are from the remains of dead animals at the bottom of the Ocean." He could recall the salvage of each clearly, he was not much of a killer believing that all souls had an expiry date that would carry him to them so that he could ferry them to Hades for examination. Styx was not one for sentiment yet he could recall when he mind was clearer at the beginning of his punishment he tended to find comfort in such sentimental values as collecting souvenirs’, now it was merely routine, one that his body and soul grew tired of. His disclosure of such information was not intended to scare or cause discomfort, simply the only thing he could think of that compared to feathers seemingly out of place.

Swishing his tail gently behind him he continued to watch, the shadows in his minds reforming again but slower than at night so that he would remain clear minded for a few moments longer. A question lingered at the back of his mind, and before he could control himself it erupted from his lips with tongues of fiery red. "Why do you care so much about what others think?" He grunted, more to himself than to her, he knew that he too had allowed vanity to consume his world once upon a time, so long ago now that such concepts existed within him only as whispered memories. His original markings had long been consumed by his curse, his hair now greasy and limp, the sharp life stream that once flowed through him was disappearing leaving him lost to the shadows. Perhaps it was pointless to fight such things. Mumbling he spoke once more. "Simply...... Not worth it."

Bodhi didn't understand this soquili. She didn't understand why he jumped from one topic to another without waiting for a response and she didn't understand why all of them seemed to carry along with them an air of threat... or condescension. She had never met a soquili that had rubbed her so much the wrong way after so few words.

"Why do I care what others think?" She nosed a speck of nonexistent dust off a feather and then looked back at him. "The real question is... why do you not care what people think about you?" She gave a small "Hmph," a noise packed with condescension of her own. "I think that people who claim not to care what others think about them are really just trying to make excuses for not being well liked." She looked the stallion over with a critical eye.

"Maybe if you introduced yourself to people who came onto your beach nicely instead of accosting them then you'd have some friends and wouldn't have to make excuses for yourself." Had that been too much? Bodhi didn't know this stallion and didn't know how he responded to criticism. Was he going to yell at her for it? If he was... she was ready for it.

Styx lowered his head again, she was truly annoying, how could she not understand that after years of being scorned you stop caring, its easier to not care after a while, to consider yourself to be the first and only concern. He sighed, gritting his teeth, he would not charge, he would stay in control, despite what this petty "mare" did to try and entice him into action. He turned his head, sweat droplets started forming on his head as he stared, his eyes boring into her like hot lava.

He flexed his muscles, his tail swaying in a threatening manner, he grinned in a menacing manner and through gritted teeth spoke once more. "Do not talk of things you could never understand." He was still stiff, ready to charge.
