It was a very good evening for a bit of lazy relaxation. At least for the former Pride-lander.
Kibela as taking a break from her efforts to assist Kidondo and No in cleaning and looking after their land, laying contently in the soft, hot sand. Crimson hues watched the sun as it slowly sunk down behind the distant hues. The warmth would be replaced by the desert sun before too long. But until then she was quite content to lay there in her usual solitude.
The detatched lioness really wasn't making much effort to get to know anyone too closely yet, which most likely dismayed her dear Kidondo. Just that morning he had suggested she introduce herself to the new General, Azarax. She knew he worried. But it wasn't as if she met, and spoke with no one. She held a few close to her heart, and all others at a distance. Was that really bad?
Contemplating these thing, she let out a low sigh, shutting her eyes against the sun's dying light. Maybe she could try just a... LITTLE harder to be social to others in their pride.
If only for the sake of those who cared about her, and wished to see her happy.

Bodaway's own solitude was far more... Solitary. There wasn't much more solitary, really, than patrolling the borders. It was best, he figured, to keep out any possible incursions, and to keep problems reaching the central lands to a minimum. Since he saw few lions besides other guards... It was a very lonely job.
With the evening sun at his right, he returned from the northern border. It almost seemed like there was nothing out there, no lion prides to the north. Then again, he had never GONE north, only south. And now, his paws carried him south into the heart of the land.
A dark shape was apparent to his eyes, and he smiled. There was no brush of fiery red-orange hair, but a primarily solid coat. Closer inspection, when he GOT closer, revealed red eyes, not green. Stopping near the lioness, he bowed his head. "Good evening, Kibela."

" Bodaway. " She replied with a slight nod of her head in acknowledgment, giving him a hint of a smile. He was one she knew at least vaguely. One with ties to her previous family. Him she could speak to...
" You are out late... The hard work in guarding the border is very much appreciated. " She commented as she looked up to him, settling to sit in the sand and talk to him for at least a little, unless he had to be on his way.
" How have you been since the last time we spoke? " This was the first time she had seen the other lion around since their conversation, and she could only assume they had both been too busy with their new jobs here to have any time for chance encounters and long conversations.

Bowing his head, he stopped next to her. "I'm just returning from patrolling the western borders. I haven't seen any of the Safi yet, but one may try something eventually."
Tilting his head, the male thought a moment. How had he been...? "I've been... Alright... I discovered one of my daughters is here... And I've been meeting other members of the pride." He smiled. "I should really meet some others some time."

She smiled faintly at that, head tilting. " A daughter of yours? She is not a relation to me, correct? " She asked rather curiously, recalling that Bodaway had had brief relations with her grandmother. She had never met that far back into the family, and she likely never would. Though, if this was one, she may consider it.
Shaking free the thoughts, she re-focused on the male, tail flicking in the dust. " I am glad to hear you have been alright, at the least. I have wondered, since I see you so rarely. It would not be good for you to be over-working." She said with a hint of worry, examining the male on impulse for wounds, or any signs of fatigue.
He did seem tired... But he had been patrolling for a good while, so she would let that slide for now.

"No, no relation to you. Unless Kidondo's sister is related to you and I didn't know it?" He pondered this, trying to think that out. If Kibela were somehow related... Well, Waka HAD come out black, which meant that one of Kiunguza's sibblings was black... But there were lots of black lions without being related.
He smiled, sitting down. "There is no such thing as over-working for a Firekin, unless it's a cub still learning its limits." He tilted his head, mane covering his face for a moment before falling free. "I know my limits, and I do not push myself too hard. Patrolling doesn't take much effort. Walk from point A to point 2, and so on... Make sure no rogues get in..." It was boring, but he wasn't laying around getting fat with his age. Besides, he wasn't ready for retirement YET.

Her lips quirked in amusement at his wondering, head tilting slightly. " I find myself related to one of his sister's, Kaanga.. But the connection is not one of blood. So no, it is quite unlikely she and I bear relation then. " Well, that was that. Still, she may cross paths with the child at some point.
" Mmm, yes, I believe I'm beginning to see that. Even those of us without the blood are quickly picking up the spirit. " With so much to be done, most were quick to pull in the slack and work the long hours needed, so that their pride would again prosper. " I was doing what I could for a while... But it seems I have a job now. " Her works came out in a more thoughtful tone now as she tilted her head off towards the last rays of light, watching as they slowly vanished into darkness.
" Did you hear..? No and Kidondo... They came to me. And asked me to be on their council. A Magistrate.. " She pause there a moment, letting him think over her words before she finally continued when the dark of night fully covered them. " I was unsure.. But they were not. So I ended up accepting the position. I wonder what you think, Bodaway? Was it right of me to accept? Is their confidence in me misplace? "
She may not have known him long, or well. But his opinion was one to be valued. He knew well the Firekin, and he had a very good mind. She wanted to know his thoughts.

The statement made him laugh, a boisterous and hearty one. "Ah, so you and Kaanga are like myself and Zimwi! He is a rogue, a very small one... About the size of a cub or juvenile. The last I heard, he lives in the swamps now... But we adopted one another as brothers." He paused, smiling in amusement. "And then my middle daughter with Kiunguza, Savitri, came out as white as a ghost..."
He straightened up, listening to Kibela's worries. "I don't believe they have ill-placed confidence. I look at you, and I see a lioness far removed from how some of her immediate family acts." Tail curling, he smiled. "At the same time... You have the light in your heart, that I know your father lacks. Your sister has it, your brothers have it as far as I know.."

Her lips tipped again, but this time, the smile was softer, such a rare smile that few would get to see. Her eyes slid half shut, thinking over the words he spoke, before her head tilted back to focus those crimson eyes on him again. " When you say so... I find myself more willing to believe it. I want to help the pride in any way I can... And if it is believe that I can help in this role, then I've no need to worry myself so. "
She relaxed finally from relief that it wasn't just her far too kind brother, and his mate that held confidence in her abilities. Her words had been bold and unwavering to Kidondo, but she had been hiding her small doubts. She felt better now without them.
" Every time I cross your path, I seem to be quite fortunate, Bodaway. You continue to give me the best advice, and reassurance... For that you have my deepest thanks. " As she said this, she gave a low bow of her head. She may hold rank above him now, but her respect for the old guard was quite obvious still. Position would never consume her mind the way it did some.

Ears flicking back, the red lion considered the dark lioness's words. His encounter with Wakia had gotten him thinking... The pride had no young, that he knew of. While they had new rogues joining... They had no cubs, the one way to connect the rogues to the pride by blood.
"I give the advise garnered by age. But one thing I know that helps a pride.." He stood up, walking around to sit on her other side. "New rogues joining are useless.. If they don't have cubs with old blood to strengthen the blood."

Her ears perked up at that, eyes not leaving him as he moved closer. Cubs? Yes, not only would it be a good way to quickly build ties between the old and new blood, but it would also add hope and purpose to their lives to see such a good start in the right directions. It was something she hadn't even begun to consider, but...
For being so smart, with some issues, Kibela didn't seem to catch on right away. " That would be a very good thing for the pride.. But it's not exactly something we can directly encourage between others, is it? That would be a bit wrong... "

Tail curling and uncurling, the male looked at the other with gold eyes. "We don't directly encourage. The indirect approach is a good approach." He motioned, sweeping a paw in a wide arch to encompass the pride as a whole. "Sometimes, lions and the like, we need to live by example. As I heard a rogue say... Monkey see, monkey do. If they see a higher-up having cubs... They'll have the desire in their minds to have cubs of their own."

She nodded her head slowly, before she froze, eyes going a bit wide. Her mind finally registered exactly what it is he was suggesting, and she couldn't help but be shocked by it. " Wait... You're suggesting that I..? With who? " Her voice bordered on stuttering in her shock.
Who would she possibly even consider? She only really knew two males, and those were Kidondo, and Bodaway! ... Oh.. OH!
She could not fight the blush that rose up under her fur, and she was glad for both the darkness of her fur, and the night around them that worked to hide it. " Ah.. you mean... for the two of us to lead by example, and bear one of these new litters together? " She asked him slowly, and a bit unsurly. Only with this one did she seem to be unable to hide behind her mask of confidance.

He tilted his head, hearing the blush in her voice. "Perhaps? Unless you know another male who's of the original Blood to have cubs with?" He stretched out, then headed towards the dens. "If you want me, I'll be in my den..." He gave her a smile, tail almost beckoning. On the plus, he'd found a den separate from his daughter's den.

Confused eyes stared after the male a good moment, before she found her paws lifting her up to follow his steps.
He did have a point, in the end. And, really, there wasn't anything to object about. He was obviously a very fine male. He had both the strength, and the intellect to pass on to children. As well as the old Firekin blood that they had need of.
Quickly, she caught up to stride beside him, giving him a glance. There was really no longer a need for words. She had made her choice.
