Janja padded across the grasslands. She was hungry, but it didn't matter. She pushed herself, listening to the birds that swirled through the sky in flocks and the bugs chirping their song. It was strange, the awareness of it all.

Janja gave a smile before she stopped walking. She touched her belly with a paw to feel it rumble with a deep hunger. She frowned now. It would be time to hunt soon.

The grass around Uzuri was warm; she didn't want to leave it. Staring up at the sky, her blue eyes glimmered. The sun shimmered across her fur and surrounded her in warmth. Though she hated sunny days like this, the warmth it brought her felt nice; and that's all she wanted.

Just when her eyes were about to drift off into sleep, a sharp twinge in her stomach shook her. She had not eaten in days, and the effects were getting to her. Lazily, Uzuri stood up, wobbly at first, and looked around; there was nothing in sight for miles, except for the scarce tree or two.

'Greeeaaaat....' she thought very sarcastically.

Realizing that she would have to travel elsewhere for food, Uzuri trotted off in the only direction she knew: forward.

A black nose was lifted into the air; scenting. Food had to be close by. There was nothing close, however. That was... Upsetting. However, Janja smelt another. A dog, she could tell. She swiveled her head slightly, scenting. She was trying to find the source of the other dog. One of her kind; young too.

There! Janja pulled herself up and starting into the direction of the dog. It didn't take long to come upon it. A blue pup. Alone? Janja was curious. Sure, she was alone for a while, but not at that young of an age. She, at least, could fend for herself as a juvenile. Janja frowned and determinedly walked to the pup. She was so much smaller than she was. She couldn't remember being as young as the pups.

"Are you alone, Pup?"

Uzuri continued to wander seemingly aimlessly; only guided by the flow of the wind. Her legs wobbled beneath her, and she felt absolutely exhausted. This life was draining, especially for one as young as she. She looked to the sky and wished for the darkening clouds to give her rain. The sun took its toll on her neon body, and the lack of nutrition in her stomach didn't help in the least.

She kept on walking; stopping would do her no good. Her mind wandered lazily until something familiar caught her attention. She dropped to the ground, not knowing if she had wandered into danger or not. Uzuri rapidly tried to place the scent, so familiar, yet so......her eyes widened as she realized what it was-another dog. The last time she had seen another dog was.....when was it exactly? So much time had passed since she had seen anything close to a family, and she couldn't remember it at all.

Uzuri continued to crouch in the tall grass. She hadn't spotted the other dog yet, it must've had colorings that blended with the grass. She looked around frantically, and in an instant she saw who it was. A female from the scent, with reddish brown colorings. It had seen her, and was headed directly for her. Though she knew it was imposible for anything with eyes to miss her on this barren savannah, she hoped that the other dog would not find her.

A question came out of the other dog's mouth.

'Am I alone?' she echoed to herself. Her eyes fell to the ground. She knew she was, but it felt so normal.

"I....guess I am....." she wimpered out, not knowing what to do around this older female. She tried to think of ways to escape this situation, but her mind was blank. No one had ever spoken to her before. Or rather, she had never wanted them to speak to her.

Janja made no comment. In fact, she stared at the nervous pup for a moment; nose twitching. She pup was alone, it seemed. No real scent lingered in the area... "You look hungry, Pup..." Janja commented. She eyed the small pup lightly. A beautiful pup this little female was. She circled the pup once before sitting. Studying the small female with a smile on her face.

"I was about to hunt. Would you like to accompany me?" It was a curious question for a loner like she was. However, the pup was a pup, and she was a female. Janja felt lightly obligated to care for the small pup.

Cold sweat dripped down Uzuri's neck as the larger female encircled her; she was not used to this kind of attention. Her unnaturally thin physique shuddered with anxiety. Her scattered mind only grouped together again after she heard the other dog speak.

"H-h-hunting?" she stuttered. "I've never been hunting b-b-before...." her heart raced at the very thought of food, and she would try anything to get it at this point. Various scenarios flew threw her mind all at once; 'what if it was a trap? What if this dog was actually being sincere?' She had to prepare herself for the worst, because there was no backing out now.

"Umm...I am rather hungry....c-c-could I?" her eyes gleamed with hope. This could be her first meal in days. Everything was on the line.

A small smile crossed Janja's maw. The pup was so cute... "Alright... Follow me." The pup did look rather hungry... Malnourished. A pup shouldn't have to suffer like that. Her mother didn't kick her our until she was at least a juvenile. She could hunt on her own then. Janja pushed herself up to walk. She would carry the pup if she couldn't walk too far. "There's a hunting area not far from here." Janja told the pup.

Janja started towards the area she came from. There was a watering hole there. A small one, but still attracted prey. After all, small ponds attract small prey. The small pond was a lovely drinking source after a nice meal as well. The adolescent walked slow for the pup, who was possibly weak from lack of food.

Uzuri felt a flicker of salvation once she knew that she could go with the older female. She was on the verge of collapsing as it was, so it was going to be a challenge hunting down her next meal. It was all worth it, though. She now had someone to help her while she was in this debilitating state.

She was glad that the hunting spot was nearby; not a long ways to go, and little threat of a big predator coming up on them. Uzuri cringed as she tried to stand, her legs shifting underneath her. Her energy was almost all gone- she needed this meal. Her life depended on it. She gathered all the strength she had left and began to march after the female. She was fast, even at the slow pace she had set. Uzuri found it hard to keep up. She barely could. She broke into a sweat as she tried to walk faster, gasping for air. She could feel her stomach churn; it was not meant to be pushed this far.

She trailed after the older female, slowly lagging farther and farther behind. This pathetic state that she had fallen into- Uzuri hated it. The stress that she had put on her feeble body up to this point caused her to collapse. She struggled to stand back up, but her legs wouldn't allow it anymore.

Janja paused. She could hear the pup struggle. A frown deepened on her maw and she turned. The pup would be too weak to eat if she kept walking... So Janja turned and sat in front of the pup. "Would you mind if I carried you?" The adolescent's eyes shined in a saddened state. She's carry the pup even in the small dog didn't consent. Who would leave this small pup to fend for herself. She found herself getting angry at whoever it was.

Janja's jaws closed gently around Uzuri's scruff firmly enough to lift her. It was a bit difficult, but she'd manage. The hunting grounds weren't too far. She turned slowly and started to trot into the direction of 'home'

Uzuri heaved as she gasped for air. Her eyes were focused on the ground, far too ashamed to look up at Janja. She had fallen short so close to her goal. Her eyes saddened into a depressing blue as Janja came closer. 'She wants to carry me?' Uzuri wanted to say no. She wanted to be left here. It was her own fault for getting like this. It was her fault that she wasn't strong enough.

Before Uzuri had the chance to answer, Janja had already clasped her frail body in her jaws. She was lifted and carried through the air, the dulling colors of the savannah passing by underneath her. Although she was uncomfortable having someone else carry her, it provided Uzuri with a much needed break. All this time she had been on her own. It felt good to be able to rely on someone.

Uzuri turned to face the direction that the duo were traveling in. She could see nothing as far as her eyes could go. The constant bouncing of Janja's trotting was starting to lull Uzuri off to sleep. She watned to sleep, but she didn't want to miss any available food. She needed all she could manage.

Her eyes blinked slowly, eyes glazed over. Slowly, she drifted off to sleep.

Janja closed in on her hunting ground soon enough. A small pond hidden by tall grasses. She could smell a hare... She ignored if for now. The pup needed to be somewhere safe first. the older dog pushed through some grass and into a small clearing where there seemed to be a deep hole; Janja's makeshift den. She dig out an abandoned meerkat's den that was close by to make her own den.

She pushed herself and Uzuri through the small opening. Only then did she realize the Uzuri was sleeping. The rest of the den was more spacious. After the entrance, the tunnel got wider until it reached a large circular chamber. Janja placed the sleeping pup into the circular chamber and turned to leave. She needed to hunt.

Uzuri woke with a shock; another nightmare. She had been having so many lately. She looked around at her surroundings and realized that she was inside somewhere; a den? It must've been Janja's. The dirt was cold on her skin, but it felt nice. As she continued to look around, she noticed that Janja herself wasn't there. 'Is she out hunting....? I would suppose so...' Uzuri had remembered that she was asleep for awhile. Janja probably went out without her. She couldn't wait for a useless pup who wouldn't be able to help.

Uzuri struggled to stand; some of her energy had returned. She flexed her paws out, preparing herself for an attempt at a hunt. She knew that she had little energy, so she relied on her prior experience to try and snag something. Up til now, she had only managed by ambushing small birds and mice in thickets and groups of trees. Out here on the savannah, however, she had little hope.

Uzuri refused to give up however, as it was not in her nature. She walked up and out of the den, briefly peeking out its entrance before making any sudden movements. She didn't want to scare anything away. Not for her or Janja. Rethinking her strategy, Uzuri layed down in the opening of the den and rester her weary head on her paws. The wind had begun to pick up, and it brushed gently across her warn face.

She sat there, patiently waiting for Janja to give her an instruction- anything she could do to help. But where she was, Uzuri couldn't see Janja.

Janja grinned. A young impala wandered away from it's mother; close to the water... She crouched waiting for the small beast to get closer. It did. She broke out into a long run. It ended with the death of the young impala.

Proud of her kill, Janja ripped it's throat out and at a small big before lifting it and bringing it back to her den. She spied Uzuri at the entrance. This pup needed to eat... Her mind went back to serious in a click. She walked towards the blue female and placed the impala in front of her. "You should eat as much as you can."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 02, 2008 2:44 pm

Uzuri had finally spotted Janja; well, she had spotted her prey first. The wandering and helpless implala had made her mouth water. Soon after seeing it, Janja raced in for the kill. It was absolutely fascinating watching someone kill how they're supposed to. Uzuri had never gotten the chance to learn.

She noticed Janja walking towards her with her fresh kill clenched in her jaws. Food. Janja had given her the initiative, and Uzuri, famished from days of starvation, lunged at the lifeless animal. She ripped her claws into it and devoured what she could fit inside her small mouth. She could feel the cold blook splatter all over her, but at this point she didn't care. She needed this meal.

When she finally started to slow down, Uzuri lifted her head up. It was covered in blood; her yellow and white muzzle had been stained red.

"Thank you so much. You saved me." Uzuri now had enough courage to speak to Janja directly. She began cleansing her claws and fur of blood, but there was too much for her to deal with right now. She curled up next to the entrance of the den and watched the clouds go by. 'Will I be able to stay here any longer?" Uzuri was used to moving from place to place, but this one had a certain comfort to it. She liked it. And she was hoping to have found a new friend. Something that was a rare occurence for someone like her. She glanced over at Janja. She was such a kind dog. So pretty. Uzuri hoped to stay with her for awhile. At least, until she had to leave.

"It wasn't a problem," Janja told the pup. Hell, she'd do it all over again if it meant saving a life. She watched the pup curl up and frowned slightly. She was glad the pup's belly was now full. She wanted to make sure this pup always had a meal. his pup... Whom she never caught the name of.

'Will I be able to stay here any longer?'

This is when Janja let herself smile. "Of course you can stay... You can stay as long as you need... or even want to." Janja dipped her head. "I'm called Janja." She decided to introduce herself now.
