Mkia stood proudly with her latest catch, a rather large rabbit, which she proceeded to lay down and strip. She had gotten a little more careful about the fur lately... it tended to get stuck in her teeth. It wasn't something she really enjoyed... not that the rabbits were as filling as they had once been. She supposed that came with getting so much bigger.
She wondered absentlt where Kenya had gone... well, a little less than absent. Panic was starting to set in. Skinning the rabbit helped with that... but really, how long could she play with her food before she wanted -or was completely desperate for- company. Times like these... she didn't know what to do.
She missed her grumpy companion... Though, that had never really bothered her about him. A creature's persoanlity never did, she couldn't afford to be picky, especially since Kenya didn't seem to mind having her around. She never felt like she was over-stepping her bounds.
And as long as she wasn't alone, she felt self-confident and happy... and not like she was bound to pass out at any given moment from fear. So far, the younger leopard she had befriended was just what the doctor ordered.

Kenya rested nearby, his head on his large adolescent paws. He raised his head and looked over at Mkia and then placed his head back on his paws again. Another rabbit? He though, his stomach churning. He wondered how she could eat rabbit all the time. It was so boring, so repetitive. What about the other creatures in this world, why couldn't they hunt zebra or something? With a shrug, he decided it must be because they were leopards. Leopards couldn't hunt large game...like lions. But it wasn't like they ever tried.
His green eyes watched a mouse scurry by. Food? No. Mice tasted terrible. Wrinking his nose, his eyes then focused on the vultures that were circling in the sky about a mile away. Kenya lit up instantly. They were probably circling something a lion killed, waterbuck perhaps?
Getting to his feet, he looked back at Mkia, making his presence known.
"Mkia, I think there's something up ahead. Wanna go see what it is?"

Mkia sighed, setting down the rabbit and letting her eyes follow after whatever Kenya saw. It wasn't as though eating rabbit all the time was her idea of a 'perfect meal'... but she knew how to catch them. And other creatures could be quite fast... being quite had never exactly been Mkia's strongest point.
"Okay... I guess we could check it out." She agreed thoughtfully, glancing down at the rabbit once more, "I'll bring this, just in case it isn't any good." Though she hoped it was good. She didn't really want to eat more rabbit again...
So, she grinned, ever-cheerful as she tended to be, "Come on, let's go see!" She said, all her usual pep returning after a moment of doubt. But no, optimism was good. Always had to think that better times were just around the corner.
After all, Kenya was usually quite good at finding them other things to eat. he was clever, and that only made Mkia more glad she had decided to stay close to him.

The leopard gave Mkia a quirky smile and began walking towards the circling vultures. It had to be huge whatever it was, with so many of those birds up there. Mkia's enthusiasm occasionally rubbed off on the younger male, as she sounded excited his heart began to thump wildly in anticipation. Beginning to walk faster, he nearly broke out into a run towards the target. In high hopes that a lion wouldn't get there first and claim their future feast. The green leopard got a few yards away when he smelled it. It smelled really odd. Not like anything he had ever eaten before. What was it?
By now he had slowed to a stop. Cocking his head to the side and sniffing the air. What in the world...
"Oh..." He muttered. "I think it's a lion..."
Kenya wasn't quite sure what to do now. His green eyes glanced at Mkia as if asking her what to do.

Mkia grinned, running after him and carrying the rabbit as she ran after Kenya. She was always happy when he got excited about something, and her younger friend so rarely seemed to. Though on occasion her pressence seemed to improve his mood. And the absense of his presence tended to have a terrible affect on hers.
However... the find was rather unexpected. A dead lion? That was... well, frankly, it was a little wierd. Mkia had never before seen anything much larger than something she was planning on eating dead... and never a feline like herself. And a lion? Mkia had never much associated herself with lions to begin with, but she had never minded them. "I think... well it's... yeah, it's a lion." She said quietly, stepping forward and sniffing it, scaring away the birds.
She glanced back at Kenya, "It's fresh... I guess..." She glanced back at the dead lion, "Can't have been gone long, I don't think. The birds have barely gotten to it. I've never seen a dead one before..."

Kenya's eyes were as wide as a curious cub's. How peculiar. A lion. This was the first time he had ever been so close to a full grown adult. The green leopard inched closer, as if he were stalking it. He let out a grunt and sat down on his rear. Well that was a disappointment. Lions weren't food...or could they be?
"It's a shame it has to go to waste." He muttered under his breath. Knowing that Mkia would think that he was crazy. "Would it be wrong to eat such a bothersome creature? Serves them right....right?"
At this point in time, Kenya wasn't sure what to do. His brain and his heart were tugging in different directions. To eat or not to eat, that was the question. And he would make up his mind whether Mkia agreed with him or not. Such nice meat, and it would all go to waste. Kenya was so hungry!

"It..." Mkia's mind raced at Kenya's suggestion. Eat it? Well... it was dead. Very obviously dead, and very fresh... no sign of rot. She couldn't help but step forward and sniff it curiously. Then she glanced back at the rabbit she had caught, "It does seem like such an awful waste..."
The lion was very large... big enough to feed them both, and rabbits weren't really enough to feed two grown leopards anymore. And catching larger creatures was so much harder... But a lion? Really? Would it even taste any good? She couldn't say... Could she really bring herself to eat it?
"These are desperate times..." And really, how could it hurt? It was a very dead lion. It wasn't like someone was going to miss it. Her stomach growled. And she felt like throwing up at the prospect of eating yet another rabbit... so really, this lion had died to feed her and Kenya. That wasn't so wrong was it? "What with finding food being so hard now a days..." Why not?

Kenya's eyes glanced over at his friend. Well she took it a lot better than he had expected. Suppose it was not such a bad idea. Maybe he wasn't such a bad leopard after all. However to him, it seemed she was still a bit weary of the thought. Kenya yet again rolled over his conscience, was it really bad? No it wasn't. Lions sucked.
Without a bit of hesitation he began to gnaw on the corpse that was once a living, breathing lion. He tried not to think of it as awkward, they were wild animals after all, there shouldn't be anything weird about this at all. After grabbing a bit of meat with his teeth, he ripped and swallowed it. Surprisingly, the tough old lion meat was delicious. More delicious than day-old gazelle.
"Ah....hehe. It's not so bad. You'd think lions would taste bad since they're terrible animals and all." The green leopard stated with a nod at Mkia. He wanted to see if she would actually eat any of it. "I swear it's delicious. I wouldn't lie to you."

"Well..." Mkia said, sighing and looking at the lion, opening and closing her mouth as she tried to make a choice. Any choice, about whether or not to take a bite. Really, she didn't think it would be so hard but... she had met lions before. They weren't all bad, though Kenya had always seemed to think that.
"No... you wouldn't lie to me." Or at least, Mkia was fairly certain that Kenya would never do that to her. She had traveled with him for quite a while, so she figured she knew him at least that well. So, she stooped down and took a bite. And then one more. And then another. She couldn't help herself... it was... well, it was really, really good.
"Wow..." She mentioned, after chomping down on another bite of the tough skin. It really was delicious! She hadn't expected it to be... but she nodded back to Kenya enthusiasticly, "This is incredible!" She never wanted to go back to gazelle after this! It was so good! "I didn't think it would be... but wow..." Her rabbit was long forgotten now.

Kenya nearly gave a sigh of relief as she seemed to enjoy it. Now he didn't have to feel as awkward about it. It was very tasty, and they could live off of this for days!
"Just think if all the other leopards in the world knew the taste of lion meat. We would all be fighting over this one here!" The male said with a chuckle. "But thankfully, they would never think about eating poor 'king of the savanna'. Actually. Come to think of it."
Kenya got to his feet and paced around, thinking. He wouldn't mind helping other leopards...and eating lions could just be one step away from dominating the savanna. But there's no way the two of them could kill a single lion. And he knew in his mind that Mkia was too kind hearted. Guess they would have to stick to already dead lions...unless they found some more leopards. This would be a long, long process. He paced back around and flopped down beside the female, watching her eat.
"You eat up. I'll eat the leftover." He stated, but he wouldn't bring up his thoughts. No. Not right now.

Mkia couldn't believe that she enjoyed it. That was odd... but it wasn't as though they had harmed another creature, so there was nothing wrong with that, right? It seemed fair. One life for both of theirs, and they hadn't even had to harm the lion. They had just had to be... well... creative. And hungry.
"Well... if all leopards ate lion meat, then we wouldn't be, would be? I mean... we can hunt, but have you ever been in a fight?" Mkia asked with a sigh, "I've never been in a fight in my entire life." Though that wasn't to say she wouldn't. Mkia had never been afraid of what others would do to her. Most of the time, she only had one fear.
Mkia stopped eating and watched Kenya walk around for a moment, unsure of what he was doing. Perhaps he felt bad? No, that didn't seem like Kenya. If Mkia didn't feel bad, it was unlikely that he would. She had no idea what was already in his mind. Though the taste of lion was already in Mkia's mind... and she was less than willing to never have it again.
"You sure?" Mkia asked, tilting her head to the side. Then again... Kenya was usually pretty sure when he spoke about something, "Alright... I'll leave some for you. We'll have to make sure that none of the birds come back though."

Kenya gave a rather bashful smile as he reached up with a paw to his cheek where scratch marks were. Though he couldn't say it had been a fight. More of a misunderstanding between a pregnant jackal and a curious leopard cub. He gained respect for jackals from that day on. Those scratch marks made him feel more important, even if they weren't from an actual fight. But he wouldn't tell Mkia that. They were scratches from a lion! Yeah! That's right!
"Well. I did get in a few squabbles before I met you. They were all with lions...ha! But I showed them who was boss and they ran away with their tail between their legs." The leopard said with a growl. "I can't believe you've never had a fight before. No one ever try to steal your dinner?"
The green leopard looked up at her with a childish grin. He was happy to have her around. "At least we're two now, instead of one." Meaning that if anything tried to pick a fight with them they would be two stronger.

Mkia watched him and looked at his scratches. She had never known where they had come from, mostly because she hadn't had the heart to ask him. Making Kenya unhappy had never been what she wanted. Though she didn't realize he took such pride in his injury. Or that he would blow it... slightly out of proportion.
"No I... well I've never been good at being alone... and I like to share." Mkia admitted with a shrug. Always being afraid of being alone had left her very... prone to making sure that those around her were happy. She would rather starve than be left without anyone.
Then she blinked and grinned widely, "Really? Together? You and I?" Someone she could stay with forever? Two of them, instead of just one? She cheerfully went onto eat. She had never had anyone she was sure she could be with before, "Yeah. You and I. Perfect!" Never before had she been certain she wouldn't have to be afraid anymore. She grinned and kept eating, seeming even more bright than before, "Two. Not one. Who will mess with us?"

Kenya gave a slight nod at her excitable comments about their togetherness. He didn't really care about her reaction. He was the one who brought it up, if it made her happy, so be it. He was happy to see her happy. He found it odd that she didn't have a problem with sharing food. Why every other feline he had come across was very protective if their dinner.
Watching her eat some more, he felt his stomach grumble and he went against what he said and grabbed one more bite. One more to sleep on. He wanted this lion to last as long as it could. With a yawn he stretched and curled himself up in a ball next to Mkia.
"I'm gonna take a nap." He muttered. "I'll make sure no one steals our food..."
And with that he dozed off into slumber-land.

Mkia grinned, watching Kenya fall asleep beside her as she finished up, making sure not to eat too much. She wanted to make sure she would be able to eat more... but it was... well, hard to stop. But she managed. Like she had said, Mkia never had a problem with sharing.
"Have a good sleep, Kenya." She grinned, settling in comfortably and keeping a close eye on their dead lion. The last thing she wanted was for Kenya to go hungry. Her rabbit was long since forgotten now.
She was happy now. She had always feared that her parents would want her to strike on. Then she had met Chukua, but he had his own family to go back to. But now she had Kenya.
Her and Kenya. Kenya and her. Together. She purred happily. Everything was going to be alright. She didn't have to be afraid of being alone anymore.
