This...was strange. Hunting for two, rather than one. Strange, but nice. His young charge didn't eat too much, but he was certain she would start eating more the bigger she got. He knew he'd done that while he grew. Thankfully, his territory was full of birds, small game, and lizards. So food...wasn't an issue.

He'd caught a good-sized old boar this time...no piglets, no mate, no disease. It still had a good amount of meat on it, for one so old. And he was currently pulling it along through the mud. Despite the drag it caused, he wasn't phased...he was used to it.

Agh! This wasn't the sort of terrain Kuku was cut out for at all! All the trees and the mud slowed him down, pulling at his feet, sticking him in place between steps. "Who on earth would live in a place like this?" He could barely see the sky overhead through the trees, and he shivered a little at the gloom.

"This is such a great place, really. Why did I come here again?" Oh that was right. He'd seen the prints of a little cub headed this way. If there was a cub lost in here it'd be good if he could find it and save it...but then, he'd lost the trail a while back, hadn't he?

He startled at a rustling sound, and hunkered down in the muck just as a leopard went by, dragging...something...behind him. Kuku was hidden, for the moment, and he reflected on how this really probably wasn't a great idea.

Dovev wouldn't have noticed the feline in the mud and muck if his catch hadn't bumped against something in the mud. He blinked and stopped. Last time he'd been through this area, there hadn't been any large rocks...Violet eyes narrowing, he looked about and finally spotted white among the greeny-orangey-brown of the swamp-jungle muck.

White didn't belong.

Sighing, he dragged his kill over to one of the small island-like bits of land that cropped up here and there, then went back over. The various animals in the area knew better than to mess with his food.

"If you mean no harm, I'm not going to hurt you."

Kuku held deathly still when something struck his side. The kill! He considered running when the leopard turned his back, but that was a bad idea. He couldn't maneuver here, and by the look this fellow was right at home. So he held still...maybe he hadn't been seen after all!

Or maybe he had. With an awkward sort of laugh he stood, his underside coated in mud. Whaaaat did he do now? Not run, the guy had said he wasn't going to hurt him.

"Uhh...hi? 'M Kukuruza."

Dovev nodded to the muddy cheetah. "Dovev." He raised a brow at the other, a bit curious. Why would a cheetah be in his little part of the world? It wasn't exactly cheetah-friendly. "Have you gotten yourself lost, or just here for pleasure?" His tone was a bit joking, as much as he could manage.

He was a hermit, but he did try to keep mannerisms that were polite. Was just the proper thing to do.

"Nice to meet ya."

What was he doing here? Oh...Oh, right! "Hey have you seen a cub come through here? I saw some tracks going in, and I was thinking it might be lost. You seem pretty familiar with the area, so I guess you'd know, if anyone did."

A...cub? Ah...so Belle's tracks were still out there. He nodded. "I'm currently caring for a cub whose parents I haven't found. She got lost in here...I think her parents may have given up looking and moved on." Dovev sighed. "So...I've taken to caring for her." It wasn't often one came through with genuine concern for another though...

Dovev gave him an almost relieved smile. "It's nice to know there are others out there who are willing to worry, even if they don't know the other."

Ohh, so the cub had been found. By this fellow? Well he seemed nice enough. Kuku nodded and shook some mud off, feeling much more at ease now. He wouldn't hurt a cub, so he wouldn't hurt someone who'd been worried for said cub and come looking.

"A shame her family left. But so long as she's doing alright then I guess she's got nothing to worry about. Yeah, I saw the tracks so I thought I'd look around. It was on my way after all." He tried to shrug and seem casual about the whole thing.

Dovev couldn't help but let his smile grow a little. "She's doing well. Playful cheery despite the gloom that seems to plague here. In fact...the gloom seems to disappear wherever she is." Yes...things always seemed brighter with his little Belle around.

"If you'd like, you can rest a bit at my den before leaving. I know it's easy to get lost in here, and tiring for those not used to trekking through the mud."

Kuku considered for a few moments...it might be nice to visit...But then he shifted his weight and started to sink again.

"Ah, thank you, but I think I'd be as well getting out of here." He had to do a sort of strange quickstep to keep his paws free. Oh, he never imagined he'd miss the plains so very, very much. "Maybe you could give me directions?"

Dovev nodded. "I can do better than that. I can lead you out myself. Just give me a moment." He spotted a rather large tree and trotted to it. With a great leap, he started the climb up it with his kill, depositing it in an area where it wouldn't get raided by anything more than flies.

Then he climbed down and went over to Kuku. "Right then...follow me." With that, he started towards what he knew to be the quickest way out from their location. And he made sure to hit as many of the small islands as he could, for the sake of the cheetah.

Kuku watched as the leopard dropped his kill high over head. That took a lot of strength...he was very glad this leopard had been a nice guy, and not an overly-territorial type. "Hey man, thanks a lot!"

He set off after Dovev, careful to watch where he stepped and follow the footprints as well as he could. How did the guy know where the islands were, when half of them were submerged, and under an inch or two of muck? He had no idea.
