Kichea lay on her side sleeping in a patch of grass near the river. The sun beat down, gleaming off of her bright blue fur, she had a paw across her eyes, her side rising and falling slowly as she breathed. It was a hot day but the wind was keeping the temperature down. A small dragonfly flew by her ear causing it to twitch yet she remained totally and completely asleep, her mind at peace in the happy sun.

(( OOC justifications: SoA is set in the mid 1950s, according to the FAQ. Safaris were original big game hunts, and often referred to in Africa. As the term Safari comes from the 19th century, according to wikipedia, the assumption is that it is an IC possibility, though rare. Some minor timeline checking went into this. )) With the growth of his mane, Tiki's motivation and enthusiasm had been restored. He was still smaller than the average lion, smaller than some lionesses even- but that was not on his mind. With refreshed confidence and independence, he had wandered away from the Kusini'mwezi lands again. He wasn't sure yet what he was going to do, though mainly he figured he might observe or meet more rogues. And if that wasn't worthwhile, he would just explore. There were plenty of differences between the roguelands and home, and the types of creatures wandering around were interesting in their own way. Maybe he'd even try his paw at hunting something!
But then, everything worth hunting required a group.
He didn't realize how extremely quiet things had become immediately, only the sound of the river seemed to exist at that moment. He might have wondered had he not spotted something very bright and very familiar laying in the grass nearby. Immediately Tiki recognized her as the insane lioness he had met the last time he'd tried wandering out in the roguelands. His eyes stung at the memory, how she had flung dirt at his face. He was glaring and growling lowly when something unusual caught his attention in the corner of his eye. He wasn't paranoid, he wasn't a fantastic hunter on his own- but nothing else seemed to be moving and this was a very suspicious motion. He was distracted momentarily from the urge to get revenge on Kichea and stood still, looking around carefully, slowly.

A quick gust of wind ruffled through Kichea's fur and she rolled over on to her other side, having no idea Tikiti was so near. The river bubbled as it rolled over the smooth pebbles in the bottom of it, a bit of spray hitting Kichea but the water was warm so it didn't wake her. The air seemed to grow still very quickly as she sniffed and sprawled getting comfy in her sleep.

The slight movements Kichea made were easy to ignore because Tikiti knew exactly what that movement was from. He couldn't see anything for certain, so he took several tentative steps forward, toward Kichea. He was still considering going to bother her on principle-- and then he saw something else moving. He came to a stop again and looked out across the river. There were strange things he'd never seen before, blending in quite nicely with the surroundings but just out of place enough. They were funny shaped- almost like monkeys but grass colored somehow. And they were watching from across the river. Despite being monkeys, they had the distinct air of predators, the way they were hiding and the way they moved. Something was wrong.
Then he remembered a warning he had been given. Dangerous hunters, dangerous even to lions- and honestly, no single lion stood a chance against certain prey let alone groups of predators. Tiki might have been obnoxious and loud, but he wasn't stupid. He wasn't going to stick around!
Just when he went to turn around, though, he remembered Kichea. He looked back to the blue lioness, and the hunters. They were watching very carefully now, a look clearly said they were about ready to attack. He to move fast. And annoying as he found Kichea, he felt more inclined to help her than to help them by just leaving her. He only had to assume she hadn't yet been harmed. Not sure if it would be better to run or walk calmly, he decided to start off calmly. So he walked over, keeping his head pointed to the lioness but his eyes alternating between her and the danger.
"Kichea," he rumbled quietly when he was only a couple feet from her.

Kichea rolled again, murmuring lightly, she stretched out and went still once more, she looked at peace. If the hunters got their way Kichea would never wake up. Her blue fur was so obvious that she made an extremely easy target, unfortunately for her. She purred softly in her sleep as he approached her.

Well, she wasn't injured. That was a good thing, at least. But of course the annoying little lioness wouldn't just.. wake up. It had to be difficult. With a low snarl, he stepped closer and nudged at her- his eyes darting to the hunters. They were getting closer, and looking more and more.. well, unusual- but if he believed what he was told, well he had to be careful.
"Kichea!" he hissed lowly. If she didn't wake up this time, he was going to leave without her. He had a better shot, he blended in with the grasses better than she did- so long as he kept his face low. She had a much poorer shot.
"Wake up."

Her eyes opened slowly and she blinked, her paw falling off of her face, "Tikiti?" She had a look of utter confusion on her face "W-what's going on? Why are you here?" She rolled to her belly and stretched, her paw brushing against his. She looked up at him from where she lay and tilted her head "Nice mane" She smiled brightly. She had no idea of the danger that lurked nearby but, she was surprisingly pleased to see Tiki, especially since their last meeting had been less than stellar.

Making a noise that was an unusual cross between a growl and a sigh, he rolled his eyes and walked around Kichea- surprisingly putting himself between Kichea and the hunters. He didn't have to be impressed with this lioness to be a good lion, to have been taught the proper way to behave. Proper behavior was often lost in informal and unfriendly interactions, but this was not one of those times.
"Get up," he said, very seriously, "Something- some things are across the river- get away."

She got quickly to her feet and in a very un-Kichea fashion, ran as he told her to, no buts, not even a hint of argument. She loped off quickly, hoping that Tiki was following. She ran quite a distance before stopping and looking for Tiki, her ears up, eyes wide. Her sides heaved lightly as she tried to catch her breath "Tikiti?!" She whimpered softly, waiting for a reply.

Taking a moment to be pleased with himself for managing to convey the seriousness of the situation with little to no difficulty, he hesitated just too long- whatever was across the river realized that they weren't going to stick around- and there was a sudden popping sound. Wasting not a second more, Tiki jumped and ran after Kichea. He ran, and once he found the tall, pale grass he knew he was pretty much home free as long as the funny looking things didn't follow after him. And chances were they hadn't from across the river, but to be safe he would have kept going- until he spotted a still blue lioness not too far ahead. They hadn't followed exactly the same path, but he figured he ought to check with her and explain. Glancing back, he didn't see anything behind him so he headed for Kichea- hearing her say his name.
"I'm surprised you remember me," he said in place of a greeting, inhaling sharply in an effort to catch his breath after the run.

She smiled crookedly "I guess I have a good memory....." She panted lightly "What in the world was that all about?!" She whimpered and shook lightly, some of her fur on end, she had never seen such a serious look on a lion's face as she just had Tiki's. She continued to pant softly, lying on her belly once again, running like that after just waking up was a lot harder than running any other time except after eating.

Tikiti didn't know anything about Kichea except that she had lost her family somehow the last time they met. He didn't know how naive she was, though he had a guess, and he certainly had no idea why she had reacted so intensely to his warning. He remained standing when she lay down, though there was a slight twitch in his legs and his tail swayed restlessly behind him.
"There were strange .. hunters or something across the river," he explained, "Kind of like monkeys but weird. I mean, everything else was gone and they were watching us carefully- and I'd been warned to keep an eye out-" Tiki thought back, but he didn't mention his source. Like he would risk looking nuts, though with a lioness he was convinced was loony it wasn't a great risk.
"They made a funny sound once you started running," he commented thoughtfully, glancing over his shoulder and then back at Kichea, "Why'd you listen to me? We aren't exactly what you'd call friends."

She looked up at him and sighed yawning softly "I have never seen a lion look so serious as you just did....the only lion who came close was my brother Pepo. The look in your eyes scared me a bit" She looked away embarassed to admit that but Tiki was much more mature now or so he seemed. She glanced up at his thick dark mane and purred softly, trying to forget the rudeness that they had shot at one another. "Weird monkeys that make a popping sound.... Hmm they sound dangerous." She took a deep breath and looked up into his eyes "Th............ Thank you for saving me Tikiti."

"Oh," he muttered, then decided this wasn't a bad thing. When he needed to look serious, he did- and that was important to him. He didn't have size on his side to help when he needed to be intimidating. But then, Kichea might be easier to scare than most. Either way, he was satisfied.
"They don't sound so dangerous," he argued, despite his actions, "If everything else was gone, and having been told to watch out, I figure it's not worth it to stick around to find out- and probably not the best idea to leave you lying around there."
He couldn't help but grin, "Picked a bad time to fall asleep, didn't you?"

Kichea was going to be rude but she bit her tongue. "Yes.... it would seem that I did." She licked at her paw that was sore from stomping on a pointy rock. She waited for his reaction wondering if he would be thrown off at all. Her fur had finally settled down but, she was still panting, on the back of her mind knowing it was half out of fear. Her paw was bleeding a tiny bit but, that didn't bother her.
