OOC Note: Spoke with Starsong RL a week or so ago. RL's been insane for her recently, and so she gave me permission to godmod her lightly to help push the plot forward as needed. Here's the next major plot point:

As everyone gets settled in for the second evening in Llune's cave, and when everyone is awake, Starsong looked about at the over two hands of elves gathered here and will little preemble, she commented, **We're enough for a small tribe.** The Wolf in her called for the stability and security of Chief and Cub, Hunter and Tanner, Alpha and Omega. She snapped her fingers in Peyote's direction , seeking to catch the send-numb villager's attention. "We should talk," she stated to the cave at large.

Blaze looked up from a stake he was sharpening against a broken rock, alternateley sticking it in the fire and scraping off the thin layer of charcoal that formed. That the Wolfrider had something to say at all made him pay attention; she'd not been the most talkative sort so far as he'd known her. Slipping the stake back in with the others, he sat up straighter and sent Starsong a silent acknowledgement of interest. He had a feeling he knew what she was going to say, and it worried him slightly.

Dewpaw had been poking around the, trying to fulfill the desire to explore her surroundings, however small it was. She turned when Satrsong sent about a tribe. It was true, she had noticed it to, and she had been wondernig who would claim Chief if anyone. She wasn't sure how the other elf's had built their tribes; she only knew the Wolfrider way. There were more wolfriders, three, than there were from any other tribe, and she wondered now if that would decide the tribe. She glanced at the corner of the cave she was exploring, having smelt salt from there, then walked over to sit closer to Starsong, to find out what would happen.

Dancer had been sleeping on and off a good part of the day. The times she was awake she tried to sit alone or close to the door. When Starsong sent she was at the mouth of the cave again. She scooted to lean against a wall still near the opening. She thought about her tribe. They mostly lived alone unless mated or young still were in the den. She had seen wild dogs and other animals that lived in groups and figured that was what Star wanted. She didn't care either way but payed attention to what was being said.

Savith turned his head to look at Starsong. He sat against a wall where he'd been placed earlier that day. He moved little, having only shifted enough to get help getting his travel pack to him. He'd spent the hour he'd been awake today emptying and resorting everything within it. Not that there was a lot. Just a spare winter uniform (impractical for the current clime) and a small furry thing which he palmed quickly, before handing the pack off to his mother. Maybe she could turn it into something else more useful to the group than a back pack.

Starsong stated simply, "We need a Chief. We need Hunters. We need Holt Protectors. We need Tribe."

And with that, the floor seemed open for debate. Let the mayhem begin.

Peyote had been sitting by Blaze, dulling watching him scrape his stake while her mind wandered about on other subjects. She didn't react until Blaze looked over at Starsong, and then it was just to look at the other desert elf in question. The sound of snapping fingers pulled her attention immediately, and she looked over. "Oh!"

"Tribe," she asked, as Starsong spoke on. "You mean like a Mother of Memory and the Desert Riders? Well, if I get a say in the matter, I think Llune ought to be our Mother of Memory and you our Wolfrider... hunter.. type person." She smiled at Llune, "I mean, you really the oldest here! I mean, come on!" She turns a hand, palm-up, in Savith's direction, "Son?" Like, duh!

Autumns joy

PostPosted: Fri Oct 31, 2008 9:22 pm

As she sat Autumns eyes moved from onr elf to another. Slowly taking long moments to look each one over with care. To see what sort of feeling she got from each one. It seemed the one called Starsong didn't want the job as leader and frankly neither did she. It too much thinking and looking ahead. Autumn was an act first and ask questions later kind of gal. Also she knew little about these elves before her seeking to lead if any. She sat smushing a rock in her palms silently for a bit. It was what she did when she was thinking to much for her liking. Then finaly set it to the side for a moment and sent openly, *A chief is a hard job. For one to step into such a role he or she must be strong in more then body and have the patience of a mother wolf. At the very least they should be able to see the value of each member of their tribe no matter how little they can contribute if it is the best they can do. A chief commands respect but never demands it unless challenged. If any of you think you fit this and the others agree I will call you chief as well. I will offer my gift to you to use as you see fit and to help this missmatched tribe we have here. I can hunt and fight but am not good at holding in what I think. At any rate you would always get the truth from me. Maybe I would be a fair seckond but do not have it in me to lead just yet.* Her send was direct and matter a fact then she sat and let the others hash it out or say what they will.

Savith quietly watched and listened to the preceedings, eyes settling on Joy as she sent. For a moment, he seemed to just listen, but then those hawk-sharp eyes of his eyes trailed down to the rock she was mashing like putty. A brow flickered up. He stared for a long moment, then blinked once, and turned his gaze away from it and back to Joy's face to listen to the rest of her speech.

"Chief's Second, I would imagine, is just like Chosen Second, and probably just as difficult," he commented softly, voice rife with the feeling of 'been there, done that, and while Mom's new uniforms were awesome the job still sucked-a** even though it was nice to be able to affect little bits of change in the way the mountain was protected and provided for'.

Blaze finally sent, choosing his words carefully. **Once we decide on a leader, the rest of the positions will fall into place. Before, we could have had everyone who wants a shot at it compete for it, by mind or by might, or by support of the rest. But today is different, and the old ways might not work so well as we could hope. So, will we decide on a chief, or will we decide on having a chief?** He added a spoken afterthought, going unconcerned back to his poking at the fire. "If nobody else wants a be chief, I will, if y'all feel the need for one, an' think you'd like doin' what I say."

Peyote blinked a few times and looked between Savith, Starsong, and BlazingRock. She took a deep breath, put her hands on her hips and stated firmly, "If we're going to have a conversation with everyone, we need to either have someone translate the sending or just not send. It feels like I'm getting left out here because none of what you two just said made any kind of sense." ANd she brings her arms up to cross over her chest with a hmph!

Dancer sat hearing what all the others were saying thus far. When Blaze talked about being chief and everyone doing what he said she felt a shiver from the driving rain (or maybe his words) run up her spine. Here is where she spoke up. Her voice was quiet and low but still loud enough for all to hear, " I feel Savith would lead well." Here she took a breath then went on. "He has spirit and heart. Savith has always tried his best to help everyone who has needed it no matter how little or dirty the task. He has nearly given his life to help others as well and I see him always trying to grow." Here she gave Savith a bright smile then looked at the floor. "I would do what he asked of me." Then Dancer became quiet and waited for more talk from others who had something to say, never mentioning her new found skill.

Creek had been by the entrance, staring at the rain again when Starsong called the meeting. He moved into teh cave, but stayed seperate. He had known these elves for a day and felt he had no right in choosing their tribe for them. After all, he still intended to leave when the storm passed and the weather cleared enough for travel, he was still searching for his tribe. He listened to everyone talking, smiling at Peyote's demand to translate of stop sending. He hadn't realized until then that she couldn't send. He did agree somewhat with Dancer. Savith had gone out to save Autumn, but Blaze had as well. Both could be onsidered brave but also reckless, although he did try to same.

He noticed that the need for a Chief was just like his tribe. A Chief, a central leader made decisions easier, but in reality, decisions were made by the tribe. he knew that much. The hunters, gathers, and scouts decided when it was time to move either from food or threat. And he had been the one to choose direction, along with the scouts, because he could lead them to water. But the Chief had final say, even though Creek couldn't remember a time their Chief went against hte advice of his tribesmen.

Dewpaw felt wierd about "choosing" a Chief. All teh Cheifs she knew of were decided by blood, they had cheif's blood in them. It was strong to think of choosing a Chief. Then Blaze's comment about choosing a chief or choosing to have a chief sunk in. She realized that there had been no leader this whole time, no designated Cheif, but things were working out. She wondered if a Chief was needed, but the thought was quickly pushed away. After all, it was the Wolfrider way to have a Chief and follow him or her. She turned ehr gaze to Savith, "I'm with Dancer. Savith would make a good Chief. He helped me more than once since I got here. And he helped me find 'the Way' when I lost it. He's a Glider, but he understood teh Wolfrider's Way. He know the tribes. And I think we need that, to make a new tribe, we need to know all the old ones." She fell silent after taht, turning her gaze to the floor and moving back toward the corner that smelled of salt.

"I'll say he knows the tribes," Peyote chimed in now that people were talking instead of sending. "He visited Sorrow's End lots of times during Festival." She giggled, "And he looks dashing in yellow! But I digress..." She looks at Blaze, "Blaze had a good point. Do we need one? We're still so small, but then... I"m used to having a leader. Someone to go to when, you know, something happens that I can't sort out myself. In my tribe, we had our Mother of Memory. She was so old and wise, and like everyone's mother, so we all went to her if we had troubles. But we had other leaders too. Like the Crops Master. He knew when the best time to plant seeds were, when the crop was right to harvest, and how much water each thing needed. Though, things got a little more interesting for him when that red-head came by... But that's another story. Oh! And Dart knew when the herds were on the move and when to bring in fresh meat for everyone. But we're so small... I don't think we need all that. Do we?" She looked about again, and pouted. "I'm so confused! I'll do whatever everyone says is best." Seeming to give up the deep thinking, she leans forward and peers at everyone as she asks, "Is anyone hungry?"

Llune
Crew

PostPosted: Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:39 pm

Llune was toying with the backpack Savith had handed her earlier in the day, fussing with the stitching and trying to figure out how to make the small amount of sturdy material into something more useful than a backpack.

When Starsong called the meeting, she turned so that she would be facing the group, but continued fiddling with the material. When Peyote suggested Llune become Mother of... What was it? Memory? Either way, it was clearly a prestigious position, so Llune blushed heartily, but did not accept - or deny - the position at the time.

As the others discussed who was Chief, Llune listened quietly, weighing everyone's words (and sends) carefully. Llune had never been one to participate much in politics - she was a seamstress for high ones sake! - but under the circumstances...

"I believe Savith is indeed the most worldly, and widely traveled of all of us. I can assure all of you that he has held positions of responsibility and protection most of his life...

"But we are indeed a very small group, and our paths may yet be separate... This far we have survived and flourished," she waves a free hand gesturing to the cave and their food supplies, "by simply working together to make decisions and delegate tasks." She pauses, taking a breath, then continues, "After having lived in the mountain under a single ruler, I have learned there are positive and negative aspects of a solitary decision maker. I believe we will serve each other best if we continue making decisions together.

"However. Although other survivors have trickled into what we've made, so far, our home, we do not yet know the state of the rest of our world. Purely for the sake of diplomacy and communication with other groups we may later encounter, a spokesman should be appointed. I am by far too inexperienced with the ways of the world outside the mountain - I have never met so many new kinds of elves, from so many places," she smiles at this remark, "And I do not know many different customs." She turns to look at Savith, motherly pride bursting in her voice, "Savith is versed in travel and diplomacy, and is best fit, if not for leader, for diplomat."

((Llune clearly does not really know all of what the Chosen have done under the direction of Winnowill!))
