All women are thought of as delicate and beautiful creatures. These women of the geisha culture are said to be some of the most beautiful flowers that are present. They flow like the waters of the spring, but their beauty never withers away. Instead, it is as if the water is bringing them eternal beauty and vitality. The women of this okiya are like water lilies. As you enter the Mizunoyuri Okiya, the layout seems quite similar to most. You take off your shoes and slide into the slippers provided. The downstairs contains the kitchen, the maids' quarters, as well as where the maiko sleep. There is the room where geisha can choose to take their tea and dine in, as well as two extra entertaining rooms for the purposes of honored guests that come over. As you walk up the stairs, you see five bedrooms where different geisha sleep, as well as the last one to the left where Mother sleeps. The head geisha sleeps in her own room, the room across from Mother's resting place. The other geisha are content to share the other four bedrooms provided. If you choose to walk outside, you will see a wooden pathway that leads to the telephone house. A receptionist is always there to take down the appointments of the geisha, as well as keep tabs on whether they are trying to sneak out inappropriately. Please don't post in okiya other than your own, unless you are granted a special invite from a geisha at that okiya. No maiko may invite another maiko to an okiya. Geisha may invite whomever they please. Keep all cybering and things PG-13+ out of this guild. Thank you!

Mother Profile: Character Name: Okaa-san Screen Name: Ichigiku Age: 40 Character Description: This Okaa-san was quite a talented, successful geisha before she retired early. Her beauty was evident in both her physical appearance and grace. Her fame made her one of the most sought after older sisters in all of the hanamachi. Her favorite younger sister, Samiyo, gave Ichigiku a small dog (gi) as a sign of her immense gratitude and friendship. Definitions of the Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
1.Okiya Mother: The Okiya Mother, or Okaa-san as you are REQUIRED to call her, is the head of the okiya. She paid for each maid, maiko, and geisha in this okiya. She is the head accountant and has the last word on everything that goes on in the okiya. Anyone who goes against her wishes may be thrown out of the okiya at a moment's notice. Don't disappoint her.
2. Geisha: Geisha are not prostitutes! In Japanese, "Gei" means "arts" and "sha" amounts to the "ist" of a profession (ex. Dentist, artist) which therefore makes a geisha an artist. What arts? A geisha is trained in the arts of dancing, singing, musical instruments, a variety of ceremonies, and conversation. They are expected to entertain at high-class parties as well as at public recitals. Geisha only have to answer to the Okiya Mother.
3. Maiko: Maiko are apprentice geisha. The word "maiko" translates closely to the term "dancing girls" and indeed they do dance, but their primary duty is to watch and learn from their elder "sister" geisha on how to behave and perform their arts. Maiko must do as the Okiya Mother and Geisha request. You are also expected to attend the Maiko Training School and take TWO classes
4. Maids: Maids are on the lowest end of the totem pole here. That means, you must do any request that the Okiya Mother, the Geisha, or the Maiko request. Of course, the maiko would be more sympathetic with you, since they themselves were maids first. So, you may even still be friends with some of them. Do your work and you will be rewarded.
Duties/Rules of Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
Okiya Mother Duties:
Accounting: You must do the accounting for the okiya. That means, keep up with the treasury. Most of your posts in the okiya should deal with encouraging the geisha, making sure the maiko are on track, and working the maids to the bone. After all, they are all here to make you money. From time to time, you may be asked by a crew member to tell a maid she has proven herself and is now ready to turn into a maiko. These are your duties.
Geisha Duties:
Studies: Everything from shamisen to flower arranging, a geisha is expected to always be learning. They are artists, so be sure to show this throughout all of their actions.
Housework: No geisha is too proper for cooking and cleaning. They will help out in their okiya.
Entertainment: All customers are to be welcomed and made to feel at home. Discussion, humor, singing, dancing, and helping to serve food are all proper ways for a geisha to entertain a patron. Geisha are not expected to bring the tray in, but to call for the maids to get the food. Men are not allowed to pour their own drinks, so a geisha must pour it for them.
Okiya Etiquette: Just as you would not enter another person's home without permission, no geisha may enter an okiya that is not their own without a special invite. If this happens, the geisha will be put on probation and will not receive payments or patron points for that week she is on probation. If a geisha's maiko enters another's okiya, the geisha will be punished as well. So please, keep your maiko in line. Her actions reflect upon you.
Maiko Duties:

Cleaning and Errands: Clean your okiya. This is what the majority of your posts should pertain to. When the Okiya Mother, a Geisha or a Maiko asks you to do something, ask no questions and do as you are told. You are a lowly maid who has just joined the okiya. Respect them, because all three positions are over you. Though, report any abuse that happens to your Okiya Mother or Head Geisha.

Sayuri followed as Mother ushered everyone into the okiya with haste.
"Oh...it looks wonderful, Okaa-san! You've had everything arranged so beautifully!" Sayuri gasped. "Where shall I go to rest for a bit?"
Sayuri followed Mother up the stairs and to the first room to the right. It was normally designated for geisha, but since there were two maiko and one geisha living here currently, Mother had allowed the two geisha to be placed into this room to learn together.
"Thank you, Okaa-san!" Sayuri said hastily. She bowed low before Mother left the room. "What do you think of it, Tsumomo?"

Kyoku slipped out of her room at the sound of approaching voices.
"Ah! Sayuri-chan! Little sister! Youve finally arrived! Tsumomo-chan too! Okaa-san i will help the new maiko get settled in their room." Kyoku bowed slighty towards her mother who nodded and proceded to disappear to tend to more important matters.
"Are your trunks already in the room?" she asked turning towards the young girls and smiling

"Thats wonderful! I will help you unpack and set up your room." She said in a cheerful tone, nodding her head. "Im very excited to have you both here! This okiya has some really lovely furisode kimono in storage. Sometimes i wish i was still a maiko so i could wear them! Of course mother thinks my kimono are showy enough i'd suppose." Kyoku giggled in her girlish manner adopted so long ago.
With gentle grace she slid the doors open and welcomed the girls to their new home.

Sayuri blushed at the thought of wearing one of the furisode kimone. She had always dreamt of wearing these long-sleeved creations. They were beautiful and she would be able to wear them until her apprenticeship was over. When that ceremony took place, though, she would be one of the most beautiful creations of Japan. A graceful and wise geisha, or so she hoped that would be what she learned from Kyoku-san. After all, Kyoku-san was a renowned geisha around this part of town.
"Kyoku-san, I had no idea how wonderful this okiya was, until I stepped foot into it," Sayuri noticed. "Thank you for your help."
Sayuri unlocked the contents of her trunk to reveal writing utensils, a few special kimono and gifts that she had already been given, and a few art scrolls. Her previous patrons had been quite generous in their gifts.
