There is nothing more irratating than a metal band who is over the top, trying to be kvlt, and super rugged and deep.

But then again, it's also dumb when all they do is stand behind the mic and scream/sing in a little pose.

Happy medium?

idk so much about metal, but i always like to see an energetic frontman in punk and rock. yknow, iggy pop going crazy, richard hell jumping around, alice cooper putting on a stage show... i also like it when instrumentalists do something to break up the ordinary - jump or windmill or something, don't just stand in a power stance.

the only metal shows i've seen have been on stages too small for the bands to really move around on, though...

Well, there are all different ways. The thing is for a young band, not to try and copy from the others.

Basically I liked a few different attitudes towards the shows I saw.
I loved Bruce Dickinson running around the stage, climbing all possible stage elements.
I loved Dave Mustaine just standing there in front of the mic, singing and playing his guitar and letting the crowd now he knows he's the most important there just with the way he looks at us.
I loved Acid Drinkers frontman and rhythm guitarist headbanging in sunch and letting their long hair fly around the stage.

The thing is: if anyone tried to do exactly the same they would look ridicoulous to me.

What about those werid assed mouth movements. Looks really creepy. Especially when Steve Vai does it. eek confused

You mean during a guitar solo? It's just where you get carried away with it... it's a great feeling, I have done it without realising a few times before
Kas: That's so true... I couldn't imagine anyone else doing what Bruce Dickinson does xd

Yeah but it looks really weird when he opens and closes his mouth really fast. And keeps doing it. I mean come on Yngwie doesn't do it.

i dont get the weird mouth movements... unless you're using a talk-box, then they're quite necessary for the effect.

it's an effect that you plug into your guitar amp. there's a tube that you put in your mouth, and when the effect is on changing the shape of your mouth will change the way the guitar sounds. peter frampton and joe walsh used it a lot in the 70s, zakk wylde uses it a bit today...but overall, it's hard to use properly and so not a very popular effect. sounds good, though, when done right

Dude! You noticed that too!? Me and my friend have a theory. He's reading off his shopping list as he plays.
Eggs... Milk... Bread... Oh bugger, what else?
And Nicko is always looking at one spot, so we figure he's reading Dave's list and saying it into a mic so Dave can hear it.

The real name is a Vocoder.

And I enjoy an amazing stage show, with a lot of theatre, it just makes it more fun. Example: Gwar.

actually the vocoder is a similar, but slightly different, effect. the talk box was handmade by peter frampton, he was the first to use it, and he later gave some company (i forget which one) rights to produce it for mass consumption.

Really? I thought they were the same thing.....well they do the same thing, except the Vocoder may be a wee bit more advanced because you can hook it to the computer or just buy a generator on the computer to do it.

to my understanding the vocoder needs to be hooked up to a computer. it mimics the talk box. the talk box has no computer involved, however, and you can get more nuances of sound out of it, i believe
