Theory: Ever since Yoshizawa's graduation, Momosu sales have been steadily declining While it's obvious that Momosu no longer sells near as good as they used to before, and that their sales have been decreasing ever since Love Machine, there have been factors that influence(hide) exactly how much their sales decrease. Lets have a looksie. ^-^ Egao YES Nude 40,884/53,047 Kanashimi Twilight 53,551/61,322 Onna ni Sachi Are 43,364/50,812 Mikan 28,082/38,667 Resonant Blue 49,386/57,964 Pepper Keibu 38,596/45,086 (first week sales/total sales) Taken from wiki.theppn http://wiki.theppn.org/Morning_MusumeThe number reached in Oricon is just for reference. They don't really count to anything as any of Momosu's singles can reach #1, it just depends on the competition. After the success that was Aruiteru, Egao YES Nude's sales were just slightly lower than Aruiteru's (-200/-2000). The sales would probably been a lot lower if it weren't for the fact that it was Mitsui Aika's first single, a.k.a. whenever a new member/generation would join Momosu, the sales for that first single would be higher than normal. Next came Kanashimi Twilight. Sales were actually a lot higher than the last two. The sole reason for this was that it was the last single for the last 4th Generation/Golden Era member Yoshizawa Hitomi. This probably brought along a lot of old Momosu fans to show their support for Yossie and Momosu's past as a whole. Another factor can be the single's image for the group(sexy). Next was Onna ni Sachi Are. Again, this single was the first for JunLin, thus it had higher sales than it should. However, it didn't have a higher overall sales count than the last three singles. Finally, we have a single where their is no graduated member or new members. Mikan manages to show just exactly Momosu's sales are heading. Their is nothing to cover up for the single. It was released in a moderate amount of types, just like the ones before it. What surprising however, was that it featured Ai, Kusumi and Reina as the centers, all of who are fan favorites. Another thing is that this single, instead of having a Single V released, the different PV's were featured in Morning Musume's 10th anniversary PV compilation. Some fans could have simply not bought the single but instead the compilation album. Now we see a surprising increase in sales with Resonant Blue. What's strange is that it features the same centers but managed to outsell all the singles before it, minus Kanashimi Twilight and up until Irropoi Jirretai(Kusumi's first single). Another huge factor was the promoting for this single. It was released in 5 total versions, with multiple PV's and was also delayed, hyping up fans even more. And their latest single is Pepper Keibu. So far, it has also been released in 5 versions, but we see again the declining sales factor. Though a reason could be that it is a cover song, something which some fans may not like. It's their second lowest selling single, after Mikan. I predict that sales will only keep on declining unless something big happens in Momosu(another graduation/new members) or some crazy promotion(i.e. Resonant Blue). Opinions. razz

I never really pay attention to sales, and I think that they have been doing good recently. I was surprised by PK's sales because it was a cover it sold pretty good. I thought EYN and Kanashimi Twilight sold well, not only because Aika's debut and Yossie's last single, but also because this was a new sound for Momusu, the same with ONSA. Then Mikan came and it wasn't a bad song, but it was totally different than the mature direction they were going for. Then they went back to it with RB, plus the promotions they had going for it and the delay obviously made people anxious and wanting more. And like I said befor PK sold good as a cover, and I guess it's sort of a good prelude to their cover/tribute album. Lets face it though Morning Musume has younger and more popular competition nowadays too AKB48, The Possible, C-ute, and Berryz Koubou, they didn't have that so much when they first debuted, plus they are well known in Japan, but not like they were when they first started, their image has changed to more sexy/mature and idolish as opposed to the girls next door that you can listen to while drinking your morning coffe (like Tsunku said), and not many people can really accept that, especially fans who are stuck in the golden era. Even though this current line-up doesn't have AMAZING vocals like first gen, they seem closer, like friends, and thats why I really like them the most and I hope that will also help them get their sales up.

True, its surprising that Pepper Keibu sold better than even Mikan, since its a cover and... kinda annoys me at the chorus. xd But I really liked Mikan! It might help if Tsunku focused more on just Momusu, though, so that they'd get a super catchy song. cool

Oh thats true about Momosu having a lot more competition now a days... But I think it's an overall thing cause all the artists I listen to sold way better at least a year ago than they do now. J-pop artists sales are declining globally, I think. Than tere is that one guy who managed to sell over a million copies of a SINGLE this year... Or maybe it was 2007, either way, it's a rare thing to see. razz

That'd be awesome if Tsunku just focused on Momusu and let someone else deal with Berryz and C-ute for a while.

I think a lot of what made Morning Musume an uber-success was popular member with a lot of popularity, great songs, and an addicting television show.
Now most of the favorite members have graduated, and the songs are slowly becoming more forgettable, in my opinion. And HaroMoni@ is probably the biggest waste of their time.
Hopefully, they'll let Queen Ai and Princess Reina take a step back, and let some of the other members show what they've got.
I think all Tsunku needs to do is to graduate Ai and Reina and bring in some new members. He needs to bring another show like Hello Morning used to be, and let them form their own images.
Thankfully, Junjun and Linlin are finally becoming more comfortable and showing that they have personality, probably more than any of the other members.
I agree; he just needs to refocus on MM and let someone else take care of the other groups.

I wonder how many Japanese record labels would take a miniature foreigner who speaks almost no Japanese...(although I imitate sounds a words and stuff like that perfectly) xd For Chinese, at least. Which is very.... hee HOO haa HAA HUU. razz

But I'd hate it if it were only her graduating and not WITH Reina. Talk about line hogging. @-@

To be honest, the only reason why I liked momusu was because of maki goto. since she's gone.... I haven't had the same drive as before. I still listen to them but not as much as I used to. Hell! As embarassing as it may sound,I even tried learning renai revolution 21's dance steps and I'm a guy for crying out loud!! ^^ rofl
