Astrophel peeked out from behind a tree and looked at his family. They were scattered near the entrance of the den. Most of his siblings were playing and he grinned when he saw his father, resting by the log, eyes closed. He crouched, tip-toeing around the trees, closer to his father's sleeping form. He froze when he stepped on a dry leaf, which crackled and blew away under his paw, and looked up to see if anyone had noticed. No one did and he sighed in relief, continuing his stalk. When he was close enough, he gave a sqeaky growl before charging and pouncing at his father. Jaden flicked an ear, but pretended not to notice, when he saw Astro coming towards him. Only when he charged did Jaden leap to his feet, pressing his nose against Astro's, who tumbled backwards from the unexpected shift of momentum. "Nice going, son, but you should crouch lower, and watch what where you step. Go practice with your brothers and sister." he said, smiling encouragingly. Normally, he would have taken some time to help him but he was tired today and wanted to rest for a while."Yes father," Astrophel replied, wagging his tail. He ran to his siblings, eager to practice. Howlite sighed and buried himself deeper in the leaves. The sound of his brothers playing was so loud! At least Iah and Twinkle were quiet most of the time. He turned and curled around, shifting some of the leaves, so that only his nose poked out towards the tree, where it would be harder to spot. He had stopped playing with his family a long time ago as it usually ended with him growling, a tearful sibling, and a stern lecture from one or both parents. Nowadays, he spent his time hidden in the den or somewhere nearby (he was banned from going too far), occupying his mind with fantasies and more ways to taunt his siblings.

Joska slowly and steadily inched away from the den, where Howlite was resting. This time he would make it, he was just sure of it!
The runty pup was a curious fellow and often tried to wander. His current goal was the swamp. When he wasn't hard at play with his brothers and sister, he was daydreaming and scheming. Usually he was the one who was babied, what with his small size. He had to prove that he was just as good as any of the others. Especially the biggest brother, Astrophel.
He took a tentative pawstep forward and turned to glance at Jaden...
Who was talking to Astrophel. Perfect.

Astin sat among his siblings. He was currently occupying himself by playing with his tail. After ages of trying he successfully nabbed it. He proceeded to gnaw on it, carefully so that he wouldn't inflict harm upon himself.
His eyes drifted over his playmates. Everything looked normal. Astro was being a suck-up (in Astin's opinion), Howl was moping around, Joska was sneaking off, and the others were finding ways to amuse themselves.
He paused momentarily. Who shall be my first victim? Howlite seemed like a good target for today's round. Astin crouched lower to the ground cautiously inching forward. His hindquarters were elevated. In a single, fluid motion he was ontop on of Howlite.

((Don't worry :3 I think a lot of us are busy nowadays.))
Instantly Howlite was on his feet, his small fangs bared. He was used to surprise attacks and wasted to time in retaliating. He sunk his teeth into his brother's delicate ear and pulled hard, bracing his paws against the dry earth while the leaves blew around, covering them both for a moment. He would show Astin, he thought, raising a paw to scratch at his brother.
Jaden blinked and raised his head, his eyes slightly widened in alarm. He padded over quickly to the two pups and nosed them away from each other a bit roughly, batting at some leaves that got in the way. He growled softly, in case they needed more convincing, and sat down, his legs stiff. He flicked an ear, waiting for an explanation.

Astin yelped. His body twisted toward Howlite. His claws scratched at his face and paws. This was the exact reaction he wanted to receive. It may have sounded strange, but being the middle child could cause an attention seeking attitude.
Suddenly, he found himself tumbling backward. He tried to regain his balance, but landed spread out like a bear rug. With a sigh he realized what happened. "Dad," a whine escaped his mouth as a pout took over his facial features. He shot a glare at his brother. A high pitched growl emitted from his jaws. As quick as it came, it was gone. It was replaced by a cheeky smile. "We was just havin' fun," he paused, "It's not like we're trying to sneak off to the swamp." He coughed.

Joska flinched slightly at the sudden commotion, but quickly came to the realization that it miiiiiight be in his favor, though his fur still bristled and his ears still flattened against his skull. The familiar grunts and growls could only be none other than Astin picking a fight with Howlite again. The youngest pup grinned as he heard Jaden intervine and quickly picked up his pace in hopes of going on this fabled adventure.

Jaden's full attention was on the two pups and he failed to notice Joska's departure. He gave Astin a look, which clearly showed his disbelief. He looked at them both, sighing inwardly. He didn't want to seem like the bad parent by giving them lectures every day. "Try to keep it less violent." he decided to say, hoping they would listen. If they didn't... well, he hoped Lunar would be close by to help him. It was hard being a parent, and a thankless job most of the time.
Howlite slid backward, still on his paws. The leaves under him had kept him from rolling but it was still a strange sensation to feel the wind on him like that when he wasn't running. He skidded to a halt not far from where he started, he wasn't shoved that hard after all, and he was close enough to hear his brother's growl. He snarled back, his nose wrinkling and the noise deeper since he'd had the most practice. It took a look from his father for him to stop and he settled for glaring. He ignored his fathers words as a habit. He knew his father wouldn't get him into that much trouble, he was too soft for that. When he thought Jaden was done speaking he got up and left, heading towards the den where he hoped there would be less siblings there to bother him. He kept his steps stiff and his gait taunting, challenging Astin to go after him again.

Lunar had been in the den resting. The pups had fed recently and she was tired. It would take a little while for them to adjust for real food, but it was getting to be about time for that. She rolled over and looked outside seeing Jaden's leg move bast the den opening. She smiled some knowing how lucky she was to have him.. otherwise that would be her right now and she was in no shape for that.
Twinkle had followed Jaden quietly. She whimpered some as Jaden had suddenly up and left. Padding after him she sat back a little and watched her much rougher brothers. That kind of stuff really spooked her.
Twilight sat over by the water and looked in at his reflection. It was then that he looked away to see what was going on, but keeping his distance as he didn't want to get dirty. He stretched a little and padded around some and peered at them. "How... messy."

"An' th' mighty hunter stalks his prey..." Joska growled in his soft, childish voice as he moved further away from the den. A small, black cricket hopped away from his paws, which only fueled his want to catch it.
He crouched down and sneaked along the grass, causing the cricket to hop again.
"Grrr...." He growled again, then bounded after it.

Twinkle moved her eyes around, and she looked over seeing one of her brothers starting to get away from the den boundaries. "Papa~ Joska is awfully close to the boundary.." She informed her father. She knew that he would probably tease her later for tattling, but she simply couldn't let him get out of sight. Twinkle tended to following her mother or father around. She was often to shy to be alone. She was the only girl in the family. But one would think she'd become a tomboy or something.
Twilight looked over toward Joska with Twinkle's announcement and smirked some. What would his parents do without her. The other boys were so rowdy that they needed that third set of eyes, even if it did mean they were going to be more busy... He glanced into the water for his reflection again and he padded over toward his sister. "On day when our parents aren't looking... One of them will take their revenge on you." He laughed some.
Lunar's ears picked up to the noise. As much as she wanted and probably needed the rest, Jaden was being out numbered. Heaving herself up Lunar trudges her way through the den opening. It was bright out... "Joska! you know better then to be that close." She looked over at the busied Jaden and then bopped Twilight with her tail. "Don't say such things to your sister. If she didn't say anything some other animal could have swooped by and eaten your brother."

Joska shrank suddenly and his ears flattened. Sadly, his prey hopped from between his paws and made a rather fortunate escape. Any longer and the cricket would of been crushed or eaten, not exactly something ideal for the little bugger.
Blast it all, he'd been caught! Oh well, there would be other times... Right?
The little pup stood, but his tail and ears were low. He really wanted that cricket, but by now it was past the borders and some other creature would get to have all the fun. "Yes mamma..." He replied glumly plodded back towards the den. Maybe Howlite would like to play with him. Hmmm. Only one way to find out.
He charged towards his larger, pale sibling. He was busy with Astin and heading back to the den, but that didn't deter him any. Astin could play, too, if he wanted.
He slowed his speed as he came closer to his brothers and nudged Howlite's flanks with his nose, completely oblivious to the fact that his gait was a challenge to his other brother.
"Tag! You're it!"

"Hmm?" Jaden asked when Twinkle first appeared at his side. He was still busy trying to get the messege across to Astin and Howlite, sighing sadly when he noticed Howlite. He was hoping he would grow out of it but at this rate, it seemed highly unlikely and he was still unwilling to give harsh punishments. Even if he knew the pups thought of him as their real father, that didn't stop him from thinking of what might happened when they would find out. He didn't want them to hate him even more and he loved them as if they were his own pups. He turned his attention back to Twinkle, licking her forehead. "Thanks sweetie." he told her, getting up to go deal with Joska but saw that Lunar had already taken care of it. He decided to head towards his original position by the log and sat down, trying to keep watch of everyone. Astro was watching from a distance, Astin, Howlite, Twinkle, and Joska were close by, Twilight was still by the puddle, and... where was Iah? He craned his neck, looking around. Iah didn't seem like the type to try and run off to explore but he could never be sure....
Howlite's attention was completely on protecting himself and when he suddenly felt Joska's poke, he growled and twisted, thinking it was Astin. Joska's words had failed to register in Howlite's mind and he pounced on him, slashing away. He would teach Astin once and for all who was boss! Suddenly, he felt someone shove him away and he spun around, growling. He was surprised to see Astro there, bristling as well and even more so to see Astin where he last left him, sitting by the tree. He turned to see just who it was he had attacked and was horrified to see it was Joska, the youngest of them all.
Jaden's search for Iah was interupted when he heard fierce growling a little ways off. He turned to see Howlite in a fight once again. His eyes widened when he saw Joska under the little puff of flailing teeth and claws and instantly, he was on his feet, a growl ripping out from his own throat. He shoved Howlite away from Joska roughly, snarling, "Den. Now."
Howlite didn't waste any time in doing as he was told. He was still a pup and he'd never seen his father so angry. He lowered his head and shuffled into the protective mouth of the den entrance, shooting one more glance in Joska's direction.

Astin sighed slightly. Howlite wasn't worth going after. 'For now,' he chuckled at himself. Instead he plopped himself down by the den opening watching the never ending circus.
His ears perked slightly hearing the scuffle between Joska and Howlite. 'What?' Astin was instantly on his feet absentmindedly walking toward Joska. His ears would go back against his cranium while a whimper would escape his lips. It was unlike Jaden to be so angry. He knew Howlite didn't mean anything and if anything he only did it because Astin got him in a bad mood.
Astin's curiousity got the best of him as he peeked into the den.

The smallest pup was crouched, cowering, and a lout and terrified whine was coming from his maw... Which was hidden somewhere under all that fluff. He had done his best to curl himself into a ball and hide his face. The runt was not used to being handled or treated so roughly and Howlite's claws were tearing at his tender young flesh.
He didn't uncurl until Jaden was over him, shoving Howlite to the side. He shuffled closer to Jaden's legs and tried to hide his face in Jaden's red and white fur.

Only when Jaden was sure Howlite was in the den did he lean down to lick Joska's forehead, concerned. "Are you all right, son?" he asked, snuffling around his small form for any serious injuries. There didn't seem to be any and the only wounds he found were small scratches, mainly on his back. He tried to clean them but it seemed Astrophel was already taking care of it. Jaden was glad for his help but it really hurt his esteem to see that even the pups were better at being fathers than he was.
Astrophel was worried and he watched as his father sniffed around Joska, looking for any injuries. He was glad to see there weren't much and he licked some of the scratches on his back. "I hope you're okay." he said between licks.
By then, Howlite was almost to the large spacios area at the end of the tunnel. He quickened his pace when the light disapeared, as it meant someone was in the entrace. He didn't think his parents would come for him so soon and he had no desire to be taunted by his siblings and cause even more of a problem. When he was in the cave, he turned and headed for the pile that was their bed, burying himself under the familiar leaves and fur. He regretted that it was Joska he had attacked, since Joska happened to be one of the few that didn't bother him as much, but he kept his jaws stubbornly tight. He would never admit that.
