Wakia wandered on familiar sand his black pelt sticking out like a sore thumb against the light sands. He sighed breathing in familiar air and closed his eyes. The wind kicking up in his fur reminded him of a bed time story his mother once told him and as always he could not remember the end of the story, perhaps he would have to create the ending himself.

He opened his eyes to what he still considered home, "home sweet home," he whispered. Why was he here? He had just started walking thinking of his brother, of Umlilo and her disappearance, and especially thinking of the new queen...was life better or worse than before?

Inhaling deeply he closed his eyes again and sat, his temperament was not that of a firekin, not even in the heat of battle did he have the firekin's fire within him. He was solitary, level headed, and peaceful. His take on slaves was not that they should be kept...his own brother was kept based just on his pelt that was ridiculous.

Umlilo was wandering around the desert idly. In the time since the end of the fighting, she had taken up sole claim on the family den, reunited with her father and gone out of her way to be more social, meeting several strangers- including her uncle Kidondo and Wakia's brother Azarax. She had stopped trying to force herself to be so social, at least for now. She wasn't doing too bad, and taking on an official job had her interacting with others- she at least could recognize the other hunters. Some possibly by name. Including a very familiar former-slave.

She was not needed on the hunt at the moment, she only wanted to go for a walk and try to kill some time, find a way to occupy herself for the afternoon. She did not expect to find anyone wandering nearby, and did not immediately recognize the black and orange figure in the distance. She did not expect to see Wakia, but she less expected to see a rogue so close by either. The colors and relative size immediately indicated someone of the blood, and it wasn't until she crept closer that she wondered if it might be Wakia.

When she thought of it, she stopped and stood in the sand, watching him silently. He was sitting, she wasn't sure if she had been spotted, but he didn't seem to make any movement one way or the other.

The large lion opened his eyes slowly hoping to see the usual suspects skittering across the sands. Double taking he noticed the earthy red lioness, was this Umlilo? Taking his second look he concluded the sand had conjured her up, he wanted things to be the same so badly that he dreamed her and the sand in its tricky way created her.

Staring blatantly through his soft yellow eyes he noticed the lion from a far was slightly larger than the Umlilo he remembered and taking off at a run he bounded towards her. Stupid, but Wakia was never a bright tactician, if this was an enemy he would be attacked.

"LILO IS THAT YOU?" he shouted as he started.

One great stupid movement and she knew it was him- and she couldn't help but smile as he came running towards her. If he'd had a change of heart about her due to her decision to remain with the Simo, she wouldn't know until it was too late. But she doubted it would come to that.

"Wakia, you idiot!" she called back, though she was smiling. She didn't move and instead waited for him to reach her. Shaking her head (and still smiling) she spoke up when he was within conversational range.

"You shouldn't be shouting like that here," Lilo said jokingly, but then had a more serious question, "What are you doing? I thought you went with the Traditionalists!"

The large black male skittered to a halt and looked down like a chastised cub who's mother caught him. He padded the rest of the way to her with his head held low in a submissive state.

"Sorry, I was just.." he paused what was he doing here? This was home..but there was more than that Umlilo was his only friend.

"I needed to make sure you were alright," he answered quietly and did not meet her eyes. He did not care she was a rebel, he did not consider himself a traditionalist but was unsure about rebel views.

Lilo had always expected- no, hoped- that Wakia would come back to the rebels side. Now that he was here, she found herself somewhere between upset it hadn't been sooner and upset he did so at all, and so loudly! Her ears turned when he said he had come to make sure she was alright, glad to hear it but still uncertain of how she thought.

"You stayed with the traditionalists," she said, her tone was not accusing, it was a simple statement and nothing more, "You shouldn't be shouting like that, I don't expect every welcome would be kind."

She paused and then shifted to find his eyes since he refused to look at her.

"I'm glad to see you, though."

"I sided with my family not with the traditionalists," he spoke quickly with a bitter note in his voice. He sided with Ripuka and Jua..and his father..but he wasn't sure about Mkaa he wasn't what Wakia thought of as a father figure for most of his youth the male was slightly present but at the same time seemed completely absent.

"I was excited...I thought....well I thought you were a figment of my imagination kicked up by the sand," he blushed heat flooding to his face, "I guess that means I day dreamed of you."

Umlilo was Wakia's only real friend, he was a mommy's boy and did not leave the den often, but now he had his own little area to sleep he was an adult. Being alone was hard but speaking to sandy walls and practicing his stories was a help to his "art."

"Ironic," Lilo commented with a slight roll of her eyes, "I sided against my family. That's why I didn't end up on the traditionalist side, my mother and I argued. Family was the only reason I would have chosen to leave, and she didn't make it very appealing."

She shook her head.

"Well, family and you," she said off-handingly, glancing away when she admitted it, "But the spat was unexpected and I never got to tell you." She looked back up, only to smirk at him when he admitted to day dreaming about her. She didn't comment, though, not sure how to really act sentimental like that. Instead, she moved closer and took a seat in front of him, getting comfortable.

"What's it like? Where exactly did everybody go to in the end?"

"I..I didn't mean it like that I..I wanted to see a nice face," he stumbled, some firekin he was turning out to be! He took her subject change happily and listened to her questions.

Making himself comfortable he slipped from stuttering Wakia to storyteller, "The land is not much different, both are sand and the sun rises and sets in the same place. The mornings don't feel as beautiful there and I often long for the comfort of my cave." He didn't know what else to say, the Traditional queen's new lands were nothing compared to his feelings towards his old home.

"It's just...the same but utterly different?" he muttered and was pretty sure he'd never be considered a good story teller again.

She watched him stammer with a smile, not commenting and letting him work it out for himself. The more he spoke, though, the more she realized she had missed him. It was unfortunate they had ended up on wrong sides. She had made new friends, sort of, but it wasn't the same as Wakia. Well- his brother-

Lilo started visibly when she remembered her chat with Azarax. Wakia had told her about him, but her having met him was a whole other story. But she had to focus back on what he said, how he described the new lands, his new home..

"Sounds like here," she commented, "Maybe it's just a different perspective, though. It's the same old desert but it feels different now."

He noticed her odd posture and cocked his head watching her, what was she thinking about? Did she think his words were badly placed? Or was she thinking about someone here...a male? It took a lot of strength to not look jealous of a nonexistent male.

"I wish this stupid war had never come, and I wish I never met Azazax, watching my mother...I can't stand her not being truthful! What else has she lied about?" He hadn't noticed his pent up anger, he had been trying to think things through rather than rant.

"How is your...king? Is he a king? How do they treat others here?" he questioned, he had mixed emotions was this place great? Better than his new home? What if Umlilo had taken a mate while they were separated? Could he handle something like that. Wakia's brow furrowed as he thought about everything, this war was scary, and the separation was even more disturbing.

Lilo's ears turned when he suddenly had an outburst about the war, his brother and his mother. Perhaps she would wait on mentioning her conversation with Azarax. There had to be better times. It was unfortunate he could no longer trust his mother as he used to, she had not been close to her parents when she was young so she didn't know one should handle something like that. She let him get it out, and go off on a tangent before answering. And it wasn't necessarily on topic.

"How have you been, Wakia?" she asked curiously, "Are you OK?"

He inhaled and exhaled a few times deeply closing his eyes to regain perspective and control. He hadn't meant to make anything too awkward or overly emotional, after all they were just catching up, not like they would see each other very much.

"I'm just sad and scared," he answered quietly, "I know I am supposed to be the masculine lion who is tough and large, but I cannot bring myself to be that. There is fire in my blood, but I cannot access that to make everything better. To impress a female."

He glanced into her wonderful blue eyes and then looked away off into the swirling sands. He wanted to honor his mother by taking a strong beautiful mate, but he wasn't sure he could attract any of the more strong willed females.

Lilo watched him carefully, with concern. She didn't know what to expect, but she was realizing more and more that they shared the same problem. Their best friend was in the wrong side of the pride and anything that might normally be vented long before issues built up hadn't happened. Or so the lioness explained to herself. It was disappointing to know she was adjusting better than he was, she didn't like him being so distressed.

"Impress a female?" she repeated, surprised by that particular comment and raising a brow at him for it, "What are you talking about now?" She held her breath, unintentionally and absent-mindedly. She didn't know what he was going to say but whether or not she realized it, she had certain expectations.

"Well you know...I'm old enough to have a mate to make my mother happy, but at the same time I want to make her unhappy," he shook his head and a goofy smile crossed his maw.

"I guess it's expected? Our numbers are not as high as they were and I think one of the female's is pregnant and that makes me feel very awkward," he smirked at her with his goofy grin.

"Have...have you taken a mate?"
