Still somewhat cautious but much more relaxed as time went by, Isikali didn't mind too much when her sons wandered away from home a bit. The Achana was a paradise, a safe home, and she trusted the other members to keep an eye on nearby youngsters as she would theirs. If any cub of any species needed help or needed to be warned away from getting too close to the borders, she'd do so, expecting other members did the same for her three boys. They were one big family, the Achana, after all!

But today it wasn't someone elses cub that she could see playing a bit too far away from home this late in the evening. She'd brought the trio of boys out to the grassland area and had been relaxing, watching them and occasionally going to give them tips. Tips on running better, tips on wrestling tips on hunting small things like mice and butterflies. It had been a lovely day. It wasn't bed time yet but Sumati, easily recognised by the bright coat so like hers, was too far out though.

The cheetah female got to her paws, stretched, and walked with a smile to meet her son.

It has started out as a racing game between him and his brothers, but they had wondered off to somewhere. Sumati hadn't really noticed as something small and gray in the grass had caught his attention while he was running. He jumped it and it turned out to be a small mouse.

Sumati began playing with the mouse, who probably thought itself very unfortunate. He entertained himself by letting it get a feet or so away and then jumping in it's way and trying to catch it. The small creature was surprisingly fast, but he managed to get it several times. But he wasn't going to harm it. So he let it go. Seeing his mother approach, her bright blue coat in sharp contrast with the green grasses. Forgetting his game and the rodent the cheetah boy happily pounced over to Isikali.

"Hi mom!" He said and brushed his body against her affectionately. "Did you see how I caught that mouse?" He puffed out his chest proudly.

"Yes honey, I saw you catch it the last couple of times. It was well done! You're improving everyday." She answered as she drew nearer and he came up to meet her.

She rubbed her cheek affectionately across his shoulders briefly, her voice filled with a mothers pride. Sumati, and his brothers, were good cubs. They were loving to her, caught on quickly and through play and lessons... oh, they'd grow up to be such fine cheetahs! Unlike their sorry a** father, they'd be cheetahs to be proud of. They were cheetahs to be proud of. It made her beam down at her son.

"Had fun out here today, on the grasslands?"

"Yes! There's so much space! I can run all I want and there aren't any trees to slow me down!" Sumati said enthusiastically, a huge grin plastered across his maw. This had been one of the best days he had had thus far.

"I also liked racing with Jaali and 'Zitha, it was very fun." the cub continued. True, he had gotten a little distracted this time, but no matter. "Next time they'll be eating my dust!" Sumati announced, swishing his tail. He was a determined little cheetah and he wasn't about to lose to anyone. Well, at least that was the idea.

Looking up at his mother Sumati asked "Did you have fun, momma?" He liked seeing her smile, it made him feel all warm inside.

"Of course I did, hon." She said and it was true. She'd loved to watch them and go and give them small lessons or even just join in their fun for a while. It was her first litter and Isikali was so thankful they seemed such a happy family. Not that her youngsters weren't sometimes a pawful and she sometimes grew tired after a long day, but all in all, her life was simple and...well, fun! Especially on days like today.

"I thought I should let you know though, you're roaming a bit far. If you weren't so bright I'd have lost sight of you." She nudged him affectionately again. Different rules for different areas of their Achana lands - she hoped it seemed fair. "This far out from home its better to stay where I can see you."

"I'm glad!" Sumati smiled warmly, thinking how lucky he was to have such an affectionate mother. He loved how patient she was with him and his brothers, considering how young and wild they were. It was a wonder how well she handled three boys on her own.

"Oh." Sumati looked around. It was true that he had went further away from his family than he intended. And he remembered what his mother had said about the dangers in the open grasslands. "Sorry mom." Sumati smiled sheepishly. "I didn't realize. I'll be more careful next time." The little male knew it was safer to stay in her sight but, well...he had gotten a little distracted. Just a little.

"Don't worry - it's not like you're in trouble Su. Come on, I'll race you back to that rock?" She invited, getting to her paws, one raised ready to run. It was obvious from the gesture of her head she meant the small rock she'd sat on earlier at one point to give her self a vantage point over the grass. Near by it, his brothers were still mucking about and playing, safe and sound.

She waited for his answer, thinking he'd probably take it or perhaps choose instead a talk n' a walk with her. Sumati was a good kid and didn't seem to resent her at all coming to make him come back. She was blessed to have such sons as these.

Sumati turned to take another look at the grasslands, a little sad that he had to leave. But his mother had promised to take them here again so there was nothing to sulk about.

Looking up at Isikali again Sumati flashed her a grin. "You know I love to race!" his tail slashed trough the air as he got into a position, ready to bolt away, fast as wind. Well, he wasn't really and he still had a lot of growing up to do before he could run as fast as his mother. But when had he refused a challenge?

With a little laugh, she ran alongside her son more than truly raced him, limiting her speed so her had a chance - she did have the advantage of being older and with a much longer stride are all! But she didn't hand it to him either and was taking in how he was doing as well. Once again she was pleased with how he was developing, he was speedy for his age, if she was any judge (trying to be as unbiased as a proud mother could be).

"Now! Who has won do you think?" She said as she lay down with easy grace when they reached their goal, with a chuckle. Isikali cast a glance his brothers way swiftly as she waited for his answer too, noting they were playing nearby.

Sumati dashed trough the tall grasses, laughing and thoroughly enjoying this 'race'. He ran as fast as he could, fully realising that if his mother had done the same she'd be long gone. However that didn't take any of the fun away. She was older, bigger and faster. So what, it didn't matter.

He came to a screeching halt, almost toppling over from the attempt. Sumati let out a laugh and pounced over to his mother and laid down in front of her. "Well..." he started slowly, tilting his head as he always did when he was thinking about something "We both reached the rock at the same time." he said "But if you were running as fast as you really could, you'd be the winner." the boy admitted. "So...no one really won. And no one really lost. So...everyone's happy!" Sumati looked up at her grinning to see what she thought.

"I think that's fine, sugar. We tied together."

She reached out her mouth to pick him up by his scruff to lift him some and pull him so he was laying between her paws on his side. She he nuzzled at his side as to tickle him - a hug and a play again. Such a darling! Both won indeed. It made her grin. Honestly, how sweet. Again she hought her self lucky to have such a son and again thought the Achana lands and her new life here a paradise.

"Ah, I hope we're always this happy. Everyone. It's been a grand day."

Sumati snuggled closer to his mother, enjoying the warmth of her body. "Yes, we d- Hey! Momma!" He laughed as she tickled him and playfully gave her a light swat with his paw. He rolled onto his back and reached with his front paws to hug her neck in an affectionate game.

"Of course we'll be happy, momma!" He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. 'I'll make sure of it.' He gave a silent promise to himself. He wouldn't let this family ever fall apart. They would always love each other. What more could one ask for? Sumati snuggled back in his previous position. No, nothing was better than this.

End~
