Sumati had wondered away from his mother again. She wasn't going to be very happy about it, but he was too lost in his game to remember to stay close to the den. He was hunting. At least that's what he called it.
Trying to stay as silent as possible Sumati approached his 'prey'. He was staying close to the ground, just as his mother had told him and made no rash movements. Finally he jumped at his target. The butterfly got away.
He had been chasing after the bug all morning and had no luck catching it. But he wasn't about to give up. Determined he prepared for another attempt to get the butterfly. And failed. It just flew away...and landed on his tail.
"You're a sneaky little thing, ain't you?" He said, bringing his tail closer to his face.

Hivu walked through the thick foliage of the jungle with a dreamy look upon her face, glancing about every once in a while to admire a flower or insect as it flapped by her. Ever since her daughter had started up this coalition, she had felt at peace. Nobody here was going to leave her, and she would always be needed. No need for worries any more. Even better, her little Toh Ni had placed her on the council! For that, she felt even more accomplished, and more needed.
She was content and secure.
In her dreamy state, it took her a moment to notice the bright cheetah cub race across her path.
"Oh, hello there." She grinned brightly, "What is your name, little one?" She watched him curiously, with a proud motherly look upon her maw. Even though this cub was not hers, he was in the Achana lands and was likely a member. Hivu had taken it upon herself to watch over and share her love with all the young ones.

Sumati turned his attention from the butterfly, which flew away anyway, to the owner of the voice that he heard. His eyes fell upon a leopardess. She had very kind eyes.
"Hello." he greeted politely, as his mother had taught him. "I'm Sumati. One of Isikali's sons." he added. The cheetah cub remembered he had seen this female before, thought from a distance. Isikali had told him she was a part of the council if he remembered correctly. He didn't know her name however. "What is your name?" the little male asked.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sumati." Hivu nodded, "Though I'm afraid I haven't had the pleasure of getting to know your Mother very well, I do know who she is." Of course, it was her duty as a council member to know the names and faces of as much of the group as she could. "I can see the resemblance." Indeed, the cub's markings and color were quite similar to Isikali's. It was a wonder she hadn't guessed it from the start.
"My name is Msuluhivu." She grinned, "But you may call me Hivu for short, if you like." The leopardess sat down and flicked her tail, causing it to lay around her paws daintily. "Tell me, Sumati, why are you so far out from the rest of the group? I imagine it isn't terribly safe out here when you are all by yourself." She did her best not to sound chastising, and more like she was simply making a friendly suggestion.
"What do you say to us walking back together?"

Sumati smiled proudly when Hivu told him he resembled his mother. He was the only one in the litter with her pelt color and it made him somewhat proud.
"Muslu..Misul.." He tried to pronounce her name but he was too young for complicated words and his tongue didn't seem to listen to him."It would be best if I just stayed with Hivu." Sumati laughed, somewhat embarrassed. It became even deeper when she asked him what he was doing here.
"Mom doesn't mind me going off..." he started defensively "if I'm close to..the...group.." he finished quietly realizing just how far away he had gotten while caught in his game. He looked away, wondering what to say. "It's the butterfly's fault. She led me away. Mhm." The little male said suddenly, in an attempt to make the leopardess laugh. She didn't sound angry or anything so he probably wasn't in trouble anyway.
"Alright, let's go back together." Sumati smiled brightly.

"Don't sound so worried, love." Hivu chuckled lightheartedly, "I did the same thing when I was your age. The best way to learn is from our mistakes, after all." She mused, a smile on her face all the while.
With that, she stood up and began to walk back towards the heart of their lands, Sumati in tow. Though she was a rather small, almost fragile leopardess, she was still a great deal larger than the young cheetah, so she walked rather slowly so that he would be able to keep up without having to rush.
"Do you know where your mother might be? I would hate for her to be worried." She asked casually as they went, her tail swinging lazily behind her. She knew what it was like to panic over a cub who had wandered off, and what's worse, she knew what it was like for one to wander away and never come back. Hivu felt a wave of sadness wash over her at the thought of her first two daughters. They had both vanished, and after far too much time away, only one of them returned to her.
But now was not the time to wallow in self pity.
She pushed the thought from her mind as she walked, determined to stay cheerful for the sake of Sumati.

"I'm not worried." Sumati shot out automatically "I just realised I..er..forgot to be careful." he gave another sheepish smile "But I'm a cub. It's expected." he said in a joking tone. Young cubs often got lost in their game, it was nothing new.
Sumati trotted after Hivu, still full of plenty of energy. He thought he should find his brothers and have a race with them or some other game...His mind stopped it's wanderings as he heard Hivu speak again.
"Mom?" he repeated. Sumati's tail swished as he wondered where Isikali might be. "She's probably near the den with my brothers." he said "See, it's about this time of the evening that she takes us back home since it will be dark soon." Sumati explained "She doesn't want us wandering around after dark. It's okay to play near the den though." Sumati didn't want to worry his mother and make her sad. Suddenly he decided that it was a very good thing that the leopardess had found him when she did.

Hivu nodded approvingly to Sumati, "It happens to everyone, especially at your age. It's wise of you to have recognized what you had forgotten." She wondered momentarily if she was really fit to be going around saying what was wise and what wasn't, but shrugged it off. It wasn't like she was telling the cub anything bad. No harm done.
Hivu watched the bright male as he hurried behind her, with such boundless energy, he reminded her of her own children. It seemed that all cubs had the inexplicable ability to continue running and playing far beyond the ability of any grown creature. She chuckled to herself at the thought, but said nothing.
"Good, I'll take you there then." She said briskly, suddenly a bit more energetic herself. Then, without thinking, she said something that surprised her.
"I'll race you there, if you like."

Sumati felt both proud and oddly embarrassed when Msuluhivu praised him. "I..uh, thank you." he smiled shyly. He wasn't used to anyone but his mother giving him compliments.
The blue cheetah was glad that she was with him. He didn't want to walk trough the darkening jungle alone. Not if he didn't have to.
"Race me? Okay!" he said excitedly, ready to bolt away. Oh, how he loved racing. He was a cheetah after all.
End?
