She'd told her Mama, and they were staying! Staying by the beautiful, wonderful ocean! Ekun knew she'd have to leave it sometimes when she got bigger...but now she knew that no matter how far she traveled, she would have somewhere to go back to. Not just someone (her family), but somewhere too! Ekun's elation wasn't just visible, it was audible. She was humming a wordless, happy tune as she searched for her siblings, to tell them the good news.
She couldn't have been the only to love the sea after all! Surely her brother or one of her sisters found it beautiful too. Speaking off...She grinned and stopped humming at the sight of her brother.
"RAI! DAKARAI! WE GOT A HOME!!!!!!!!!!"

The young lion was splashing in the tide pools along the beach, chasing rock crabs and generally making a nuisance of himself. Plunging muzzle into the froth, he closed teeth around.... something! Grinning he pulled back to find he'd only grabbed onto a mussel covered rock. Spitting it out he made a face and spun as he heard his sister call him.
Ears erect and mouth open in an expectant grin, he charged out of the water to meet her. "What!? What? A home!? Really? Where!?" He was caught up in her excitement and bounced as they drew near one another.

Ekun grinned, practically dancing around in the sand. "Here!" With that she started to have a sing-song tone to her voice. "By the sea, by the sea! With the sand and foam and waves, by the sea!" In Ekun's mind, NOTHING could match the glee of knowing that not only did they have a home, they were someplace beautiful and wonderful!
"There are a couple other families settling here too! With cubs for us to play with! And they like learning stuff too! And and..." She found herself at a loss for words. "We're home Rai."

"Here?" He slid to a halt in the sand and slowly turned about, taking it all in with new perspective, "This is our land?" By the time he'd come full circle he was grinning just as much as Ekun was. Leaping forward, he playfully tackled his sister with a joyous sound. "We're home." Gnawing on her ear for a moment he returned to all fours and tossed his head.
"We're home... this is awesome Ekun! I can't wait~" He hadn't really explored the area yet... and now that he knew they were staying there was no reason not to.

Ekun squeaked as she was tackled, but it changed into a happy laugh. "Yup! Ours and whoever joins us!" She bat at him while he gnawed on her ear. "We're gonna be one big family, and when we wanna wander it's okay to wander!" She liked that part too...it meant she could go looking for their Papa when she was old enough.
She got back up, not bothering to shake the sand from her fur. "One of the things I like most of all...Mama will get to rest. She's done SO much for us..."

"Mmmn, yeah. She needs the break." He nodded as he stood at her side, head titled thoughtfully. "Hey... what are you going to do? Wander and explore too? What're you gonna look for? I want to see if there's any strange things washed up on the shore... or if there's some sort of sea monster graveyard... or or, what about a bird colony? That'd be neat! We could watch the little birds learn to fly..." He paused and looked up into the sky, "I wonder if they taste good."

Ekun giggled. "When I'm bigger, I'm gonna go ALL over and learn everything I can...then bring it back to share! And then do it again! And...and I'm gonna find our Papa. Let him know we're all safe and grown and Mama misses him." She looked at the ocean, curious. "A sea monster graveyard...that would be cool! And I think birds taste good. Mama got us one once, I think..."

He nodded a couple times as she spoke, agreeing with her - at least until she mentioned their father. Dakarai paused and frowned, ears drooping a little. He'd never really ever thought about their sire... what was he like? He had to have been a good lion if Mama missed him. "Can I come with you? I want to see this place first.... but when you go, can I go too? I've never thought about Papa before. Do you know what he'd like?"
Distracted by her comment he laughed, "Could sit under the cliff and just look up with our mouths open. Easy hunting." He flicked his tail and tossed his head as he demonstrated, pretending to catch a fledgling and exaggerating the chewing motion. "Mmm."

Ekun nodded brightly. "Of course you can come with! He's your Papa too." She purred and nuzzled him. "We'll explore everything our home has to offer...and then we'll find him! Maybe even bring him home with us!" The thought of that made her warm inside, because then their family would be all together if they could find their birth-Mama too.
She couldn't hep but laugh about the birds. "It would be! Besides...better in our belly than flopping around on the sands with a broken wing!" The cycle of nature...it intrigued Ekun so much with its intricacies.

"You think he'd come?" He nuzzled her in turn and frowned, "Why'd he leave...? What if he doesn't want to come back?" Dakarai's gaze dropped and he rumbled something. It didn't strike him as very responsible to leave your family like that... you should protect females, right? Even though he'd wandered a lot during their travels he still put his sisters before him.
"Even if he doesn't come back, I'll take his place." He stood tall then, proud and attempting to look like a regal king. He would protect his sisters regardless of what their father would do. Smiling at Ekun, that momentary seriousness melted away into a happy smile, "I've got your back."

Ekun smiled sadly. "He doesn't know 'bout us...he left 'fore we were born. Part of the reason I wanna find him. Mama said...if he was around, he would love us, because he's a good lion." Ekun really hoped that was true...because ever since talking with Safi about it, she'd had the thought of the family being all together stuck in her mind. "Even if he doesn't come with us...once we know where he is, we can visit whenever we go Seeking!"
Her smile grew happier as she talked. "I know you do, Rai...and I'll watch your back!"
