Back Story
Alexandria and Desdemona were born to a couple of archaeologists. Their parents were very involved with their work, thus the twins were relocated often as their parents went all over the world to dig sites. Against many warnings, the couple decided to go to Haiti to the great Citadelle Lafferriere and Sans-Souci Palace for a rare chance to study these ancient structures. Yet, while there, a skirmish got out of control and sadly their mother was killed in the crossfire of on said battle. Their father was GREATLY affected by this, more or less losing his mind. By this time the twins were still quit young, only 4 years old. An older woman of the village took pity upon the twins and took them in.
For years and years the twins grew up as the old woman's children, learning the ways of Haitian culture, language, and religion. As well as english, they learned to speak french. They also learned the ways of Vodoun (Voodoo).
Life went on this way until the twins were in their 16th year. The older woman who was taking care of them died of old age. They long since lost contact with their father. Thus they were forced to live on the streets. One stormy night they took shelter upon a ship they snuck upon. Without knowing it, the ship left port with them on it. By the time the crew realized they were on the ship it was too late to turn back.
As soon as they arrived to port they were instantly threw back to the streets. It didn't take them long to realize they were now on the streets of Japan... and so they remained until they were found and put into a foster home.
It didn't take long for a rich Japanese couple to become interested in the girls. They were beautiful girls, so very different than Japanese children. The couple decided to adopt the twins as "trophy children", more interested in showing them off than anything else.
