It was dark, inky black shadows giving the familiar marsh an almost otherwordly appearance. Forgotten Wisp made her way briskly through the underbrush, her pale coat standing out like a beacon, seeming to shine almost of its own accord when the moonlight hit it. Breathing deeply, she stopped for the barest of moments, enjoying the heavy silence that seemed to muffle even the sound of her own hooves as she made her way gracefully across the soft, moist earth.
Bending her head to gnaw at an itchy knee, silvery strands of her mane tangled in a thorny bush, prompting an irritated snort when she moved to raise her head back up, and move on her way. Tossing her head, the plant seemed to have a mind of its own, ensnaring her wayward mane more firmly, her own efforts seeming to aid in its entanglement. Legs slightly splayed, she debated her options--just how was she supposed to get out of this mess?

In the soft moonlight that passed through the gaps in the overhanging of the swamp, Stargarden quietly padded his way through the underbrush. He seemed to be lost in thought, making his way through the night while unquestionably following the moon: never getting closer, and much to his dismay it seemed to be getting further as the time passed by. He seemed to yearn for the light in the sky, dazzled by its glow. It wasn't until he heard a cry from a small creature nearly under his hoof that he tore his eyes off the moon in the sky.
He grunted softly and lifted his foot, quietly stepping around the creature on the ground before he set his gaze back up to the sky. He panicked though, he could not spot the moon in the sky as it so secretly hid itself behind the clouds while his attention was split.
He begun to look around, just where did it go? -- and that's when he spotted it! It had fallen from the sky and was now caught in this bush just adjacent to him!
"Pardon me," he begun, his starlit eyes twinkling in the dark. "Did your fall hurt?"

Starting in surprse, Wisp grimaced as the action tugged painfully at her hair. Going still, she slowly, carefully craned her neck so that she could see the other speaker. Her mane was wound so tightly around the solitary horn that grew from her forehead, at that point, that it made even that small action difficult.
Curious, she studied him for a moment, eyeing his vibrantly colored pelt, slowly raising her gaze to meet his own, taken somewhat aback by his bright, luminous eyes. Finally remembering that he'd already spoken, she blinked, trying to remember just what he'd said--something about falling, and whether or not it had hurt?
"What do you mean?" She finally asked, genuinely puzzled.

Stargarden carefully studied this beautiful, shining kimeti that was currently being ravished by a bush below him. He never knew that the light in the sky was actually a creature like himself, did that mean he too could reside up there? In thought he took a note of its one horn, rather than the usual two, which he found to be very suiting for such a creature.
Without her asking, he begun break off some of the branches that tangled her to the bush. The side of his face often brushing up against her neck as he got in close to free her silky locks.
"The beautiful, shining orb," he said as he looked up at the sky. "You were quite high up when I seen you before this."

Appreciative of the help, Wisp was unbothered by the closeness--she was practical about such things, rarely looking beyond the surface. His complimentary words both surprised her, and left her feeling slightly embarrassed--high up? Shining orb? She forced herself to stand still, fighting the temptation to shake out the branches still caught in her hair--after all, she'd already made that mistake once.
Suddenly getting it, Wisp laughed, shaking her head slightly in denial. "Oh no...I'm not from up there...I'm just another kimeti, born and raised here in the swamps." she said, finally taking note of the fact that he too, had unique horns.
As he broke the last of the branches holding her, Wisp breathed a sigh of relief, tossing her head vigorously, sending bits and pieces of the offending plant flying in all directions.
"Thank you." she finally said, ignoring the fact that her mane was a chaotic mess, a far cry from her usually at least somewhat neat appearance.

Stargarden stared at the pale kimeti, not quite understanding what she said about her not being from up there. She had to be from up there! Where else did it go--and then one of the stray branches hit him in the face and he shook his head and as he did his eyes caught a glimpse of the moon in the sky again. This left him totally dumbfounded. How? What?
As she thanked him he abruptly looked back toward her and then he looked back at the sky and then to her and so on until his eyes narrowed down on her and he made a sigh like sound.
"Oh, you're welcome," he begun, and oh no, he begun. "But how do you shine so brightly when you light up the entire sky as well?"

Cocking her head to the side, Wisp looked on curiously as he stared at her, almost as if she'd grown a second head or something. Vaguely self-conscious, she shifted her weight slightly--surely there was nothing -that- odd about her?
Blinking again when he spoke, she shook her head. "I don't, though..." She could, perhaps, recognize the similarity in color between her coat and the moon above, but she was hardly responsible for the soft light it bathed the world in! It might be considered strange that she didn't even assume that he might be behaving as to be deliberately obtuse, or otherwise sarcastic--but she had a tendency of taking others at face value, and assuming the best, until shown otherwise beyond any shadow of a doubt.
Changing the subject again, bobbed her head. "It was fortunate that you happened to be passing this way when you did, however--I had no idea how I was going to get myself out of there!" Her voice was airy and easygoing, as if she had very few worries about much of anything.

He mimicked her unintentionally as he cocked his head to the side and shifted his weight to one leg, his eyes still watching her carefully as if he was looking for the truth to why. He'd probably never understand even if she told him a dozen times that she was not related to the moon that lit their nightly world.
The kimeti nodded, "Glad to be of assistance." It was his first somewhat normal thing he had said all night but it didn't last long before the strange kimeti went up to look for the first moon that lit the world. However, it had hidden beyond the clouds again and his eyes fell back down on her.
"But," he thought out loud, "you're lighting my world right now."
You're. You are. You. Orb? He suddenly felt very rude. He had been calling her things and never asked for her name. He calmly shifted his weight back and although he still seemed to be staring it was not quite as rough.
"Dear lady, my name is Stargarden," he said before taking a pause. "And what does the light that lights my world call herself?"
It seemed unremarkable in its level of sarcasm but he had no second thought. This was the level he seen it on.

If she could have blushed, she would have. "....Oh! I'm sorry--my name is Forgotten Wisp!" She opened her mouth, as if to reiterate that she was not some earthly incarnation of the moon...and decided against it, concluding, perhaps wisely, that if he was convinced, and wanted to believe it--there was very little she could do to convince him otherwise.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Stargarden." She bobbed her head slightly, finally, apparently recalling some degree of her manners. Eyeing him curiously, she thought for a brief moment before speaking again. "Are you from around here? Or just wandering through?" She was openly inquisitive, tail flicking from side to side idly behind her.

"A lovely name," he whispered softly. "And the pleasure is all mine."
Her pleasure? He was no more than a rogue creature and she was so glorious, beautiful, shining. His mind seemed to ramble for a bit until she questioned him. Then he seemed to dance around lightly as he padded his feet on the ground, taking small strides forward and then back again as he pondered the answer to her question.
"Yes," he said finally and then after a minute he seemed to realize and continued. "I am not from here so much, but I am not wandering. I'm following."
Following what? Oh, heavens forbid she ask...

Slightly embarrassed by the effusive compliments, Wisp scuffed one of her fore-hooves lightly in the mud, although her eyes were bright, her expression interested, as well.
The way he'd phrased his response was intriguing, and piqued her healthy sense of curiosity. "I'm not from here, either." she began, before turning her attention back to asking about him. "What, precisely, are you following?" she asked, after a moment of thought. Given his assumption that she was the moon, she had no idea what to expect of his reply, but hadn't been able to resist at least asking.

Stargarden looked over at the moonlit covered kimeti as he questioned her in his unusually soft voice. "And where are you from then?"
He was about to ask her a more in depth question when he attacked him with another, which caught his tongue under his teeth and he grunted lightly before looking up at the sky as usual in thought and then back down to her. He flicked his tongue around some, "Well, as the day passed by I was following my friend Bites For Fun, you see, but then the sun fell from the heavens and I lost him but to my surprise the orb in the sky appeared and rescued to me from the darkness by lighting my way to you... and now I follow you, the embodiment of its wonderful light."
And then he looked down at her, his larger body towering softly beside her.
"So alas, where will the light lead me?"

Cocking her head to the side, Wisp thought about it for a moment, as if pondering that. "The swamps, same as everyone else," she teased, before giving the kimeti equivalent of a shrug. "I haven't really stayed in one place, up until now--and memories, like so many other things, fade with time."
At his own response, she blinked. Had he said...bites for fun? What sort of friend bit...for fun?! Concentrating, she only caught the end of the rest of his explanation. Looking up at him, and noticing, perhaps for the first time, just how close he was, she wasn't quite sure how to respond. His company, thus far, had been enjoyable...but she wasn't really sure that she was comfortable with being placed on such a...pedestal.
A moment of silence fell, and then...she laughed, the sound not at all meant to be mocking. She might not understand him (and since she'd only just met him, perhaps that was to be expected), but his soft voice and earnest, if dreamy nature intrigued her. "And just how long would you follow?" she asked a moment later, tone genuinely curious.

Stargarden thought about it for a moment. The swamps: it seemed like a respectable answer. That's where the moon seemed to rise each night, from the horizon of the swamp, climbing over the treetops to its place in the sky.
"Not if you remember them," he answered mildly, softly tossing his head in the night breeze.
He stared at her momentarily as he wondered why she was laughing. Maybe a firefly got caught in her throat and tickled its way down? Or maybe that friendly snake he seen had crawled up her leg and its rough snakeskin brushed her fur around in a laughable manner? And then he snapped his head back. "Until you set for the night and the sun rises once again due I part, until once again on a midnight evening, or shortly after dusk, your adrift and climbing soul cries out and we meet once again."
He thought for a moment, longingly looking up at the sky. "Until the end of time, would night never fall."
But that'd be all but a dream and this was but one night.

Wisp shrugged again, expression fading to a soft smile. "Perhaps."
Cocking her head to the side, she wondered at the way he spoke--it had a softer flow than most speech, and seemed somewhat more formal, as if he chose the words he used carefully.
Giving him a gentle, (if insistent) nudge, she stepped a few paces away, eyeing him over her shoulder. Many of his words left her still uncertain as to quite how to respond...but not in an overly unpleasant way. So she reacted as she tended to do with everything--focus on the here and now, rather than tomorrows, or yesterdays.
"Shall we go, then? The night won't last forever..." She grinned playfully, perhaps teasing him, ever so slightly.
