At Lake Rylen Dolce took a deep breath, then broke into a quick run, meeting the water paws-first as always. She broke the surface with a gasp and spent a few minutes paddling about, before lying lazily back on the cushion of water with her paws up, tail hidden below the surface and helping her stay afloat. She loved swimming, loved the feeling of near-weightlessness, and most of all loved cloud-gazing on her back.
She did wish someone would come along to cloud-gaze with her, though.

Maha was roused from his nap by the sound of a loud splash; the water that spilled over the banks wet his "hair", which flopped messily past his eyes. Slightly irritated, he flipped the fur back and scanned the lake for the source of the disturbance.
"It's that Sim'Arei female again," he thought, his previous feeling of annoyance melting into vague amusement. He had only seen her twice since he first took up residence at Lake Rylen, and assumed she was one of many visitors to his home who had merely stopped by a drink, and then continued on their journeys. Maha didn't usually greet them; it wasn't because he set out to avoid others on purpose. He was simply too lazy.
However, since this one looked set to stay... Maha rolled a short log into the water, climbed onto it, and started paddling with all fours towards her. As he neared her, he sat up and allowed the log to continue drifting. He hoped he looked friendly.
"Hi there! Um... what are you doing floating on your back?"

Dolce smiled at the pair of inquisitive yellow eyes above her. "Hey, you're that sleepy Komali who's always napping on the bank... Nice to meet you." She flipped over in one smooth motion and joined him on the log.
"Actually, I was cloud-gazing until someone came along and blocked my view," she said, winking playfully at him.

"Yeah that I am... and I was having a pretty good nap until somebody got my hair wet." Maha replied, with a grin. This was going well; they had the same sense of humour. "But I guess I'll be sleeping less with someone to talk to around - that is, if you're staying here."
He rather hoped she would. Maha slept because he was bored, and he actually liked making friends - except they always upped and left when they got tired of the lake. Maybe this one would be for keeps.

Dolce nodded. "I like this place." The log had drifted all the way to a side of the lake neither of them had come from. Both Dreamers had been so engrossed chatting with each other, they had failed to pay attention to wear they were heading. "Uhh... where are we?"
Dolce leapt off the log and shook herself dry. She frowned at her surroundings. This was the bare, unforested side of the lake; there were no trees, only a huge grassy pain that swept on into the horizon.

"The end of the lake." Maha's gaze followed the trail of water leading away from the river. "You know, since it's all downhill from here... if we follow the river, we'll eventually end up at the sea. If this world has a sea."
Maha wondered at his own knowledge sometimes. He was never quite sure how he knew things, having no recollection of his former human life whatsoever.

"Oh..." Dolce blinked at the distant horizon thoughtfully. She did love the idea of an even larger body of water to play in than the lake, but had a sneaking suspicion that if she headed off right now, she would be doing so alone. "Well, I'm not really in the mood to explore right now." She began to make her way back to the lake, Maha following beside her.
"Anyway," she said, nudging Maha gently. "I've been wondering. How did you come to live here all by yourself?"

"I entered this world just like the rest of us did, as a plushie. Except I was floating around the lake on a log. It was scary because I couldn't move and I couldn't tell where I'd go next, but really peaceful, you know?" He saw her nodding along and felt encouraged - here was someone who loved water as much as him.
"Then, when I found myself able to move again, I headed for the shore. I did poke around the other places where you can't see the lake, but this place drew me back every time.
"What about you?"

((This meeting was followed by many sun and splash-filled days and they lived happily ever after at the lake. x3 Now that they're grown it'll be ORPs all the way.
Closed!))
