What's the difference? Some sites I've been to in the past little while have said (+ $xx.xx) for a spoon busk.
Which type of busk would you suggest for a beginner who's not interested in waist-training at this time? A regular busk or a spoon busk?

Any other tips and tidbits for a corset-noob are appreciated!
I'm trying to save up money for a real, good-quality corset, and meanwhile trying to think of ways to convince my mom to let me buy it, and that it'll be good for me >.<;;
I'm worried she won't understand and instantly 'S&M' will pop into her head and she'll freak D; Most of the people I've talked to have done this, and they don't understand.
And, I'm only sixteen. Thinking she may be all 'you're too young'. D;

Thanks again! :3

lol, 16 is quite young for a corset. Though I got my first one when I was 16 too, so disregard that. ):

I'd talk to your doctor about it first though. If you're looking to cinch down some, even if not for hardcore waist-training, then there might be some health risks at your age, as your body is still developing. Plus, an endorsement from your doctor would never hurt if you're trying to sway your mom's opinion.

Anywayyy, from my understand, a spoon busk is different from a normal busk in that it's curved at the bottom, shaped, well, like a spoon. Personally I've never tried one before, but from my understanding it's more comfy (and still pretty) if you have a bit of a tummy, as normal straight ones can push out belly fat out the bottom of the corset. I'm perfectly happy with my normal busk'd corsets, but i don't have that much of a tummy.

also, wikipedia. wink

XD Okay, I'll see what I can do in the way of either contacting my doctor, or waiting until I'm a bit older. Though, I'm pretty sure I don't have much, if any, growing left to do D; 6' for the loss?
But yeah, I would rather be healthy than screw myself up O.O;;

And thank you so much! That really clears it up XD
I do have a bit of a tummy, so that might be best. XP

Thank you again! :3

A non waist training corset is fine when you're 16. Look to reduce 2-3 inches at the most. Also, don't wear it everyday. Waist training is pretty bad in terms of what it can do to the body if done improperly. From what I understand, the main point of a spoon busk is to allow you to cinch tighter, so I'd just go with a regular bust since it would seem the designs are more designed for people who want to reduce their waist.

Spoon busks are designed for larger women. All it does is cup the bottom of the corset slightly, so the bottom of the corset doesn't jut outwards (which is sometimes a problem for larger women)
However, they are more brittle and rigid than standard busks, and are not suitable for tightlacing.
Standard busks are always the best bet. If you need more abdominal support, look for a corset with a wide busk, or a busk with the two bottom knobs closer together.
