Ooc::; A note for this entire roleplay: this will be gruesome, with death and violence and all that great stuff. Please don't come in squeamish and then whine at me. D : ]]

The large male stalked back and forth in his cave, smiling placidly at the ground as his mind went through a million and a half things he should be doing right now, but wasn't. The dual-coloured stripes and spots on his pitch body almost made him blend with the darkness and the rocks in his cave of a home, if it weren't for the soft blur of movement and the shine of the two rings that had been driven into on of his ears, the two of which chimed softly when they tapped into each other. He heard a soft rustle in the trees, and one of his ears twitched, both lying flat against his head, a black eye flitting toward the noise.

In a flash, he was off, running full-throttle toward the noise before rearing up when what he'd heard was merely a doe who'd wandered into his territory. He growled low in his throat, alerting her of a presence she hadn't noticed with the way he'd come in. The irritation on his face slowly evolved, and soon he was smirking, the doe standing stock-still and facing away from him, staring into the tree, ears twitching every which-way. He laughed lowly, and the deer turned to him. Without even time to blink, he dove at it, biting hard into it's ribcage, shattering fragile bones and covering himself in blood. The poor creature cried out and thrashed around, before Orin bit in harder and tore off a warm piece of flesh, devouring it as he watched the limping and half-dead, torn-apart creature stumble a few steps away. It collapsed before going any further, and died only a few feet away. Still covered in the deer's blood, Orin pouted softly and plopped down, wagging his tail like a hopeful dog. Well, that didn't last very long...

((Yikes! Liema's scared already. xd And yeah, since she's of kind of a gentler nature, her posts may not be quite so graphic. wink I believe this shall be fun. twisted By the way, see if you can find the ironic sentance in this post. whee ))

Liema walked through a patch of brush, sniffing after a doe she had been following into this territory. It was difficult to bring down a deer alone, particularly if the doe knew it was being followed, but Liema had been after it for too long to give up now, and she was so hungry!

She might starve to death.

She crept through the brush, making use of the silence that she naturally had. This quality disturbed some dragons. They claimed that she moved like a ghost... and that she looked like one, too, what with her soft shades of grey skin, only broken by an occasional marking of bright purple. It was true, some could find her appearance unnerving, but in this instance the point was to not be seen, so it was best for Liema to stop thinking along these lines and focus on her prey.

She moved a bit closer the doe. A twig snapped under her foot. The doe stood stock-still, staring directly at Liema. Any second now she would dash away and the chase would begin again... Liema had to end this now.

Just as she tensed her muscles to move, a brown shape came in with a blur, stealing Liema's target with a quick closing of jaws. Liema instinctively wriggled backward, still watching in horror as the other dragon began to eat the doe alive, not even waiting to kill it completely before digging in. When the doe finally died, the other dragon seemed disappointed, and he lay on the ground, wagging his tail.

In shock, Liema realized that this other dragon liked killing. And maybe that pleasure wasn't restricted to deer... Maybe it was best if Liema left...

Orin sighed sleepily, and let his eyes fall half-shut, before a soft rustle caught his attention, and he swiveled his ears to the noise, shutting off all other distractions, eyes closed. He could hear the faint breathing, the gentle trod of feet with even the slightest bit of movement, the movement of the plants around another body. If his hearing could be any better, he would be able to hear her heartbeat. Without making any sign of what was soon to be movement, he went from laying down calmly to dashing through the trees that surrounded the clearing he'd been hunting in. Somewhere in this sprint, he leveled himself with the ground, rubbing off the blood from his 'hunt' off on the grass. Deciding his fur was clean enough, he shook himself clear of grass bits and other similar materials.

He skidded to a stop behind the ghostly female, and was forced to suppress a smile that was far from sane, as though he'd ever been as such. The poor dragon so close to him now looked like she'd been born for death, and that thought sent shivers down his spine.

"Were you going somewhere, miss?" he questioned, hiss voice low. He always spoke strangely; his words were impossible to miss, and easy to hear, and yet it always seemed like he was whispering, his words rasping on their way out. "Or were you... looking for something? Because I would hate to call it a 'warning', but you are on my land..."

Liema froze once more as the other dragon disappeared. Not literally, of course... but the bloodthirsty male had dashed out of sight so quickly, she barely even had time to register movement before he was gone.

So now Liema was faced with a dillema. What to do? She wasn't sure what direction he'd disappeared in, and he always could double back... The truth was she had no idea where the other dragon was, or if he knew that she was there, or if he had simply run off after the kill was over, bored now that his prey was no longer putting up a fight. Liema could stay where she was to avoid running into him in the woods... but no... he'd doubtlessly come back for the fallen deer later, and if he came back he was certain to find her. Liema could run off, but for all she knew the other dragon was lurking nearby, waiting for her to run so that he could feel the thrill of the chase once more... Or maybe he was taking a stroll somewhere in front of her, and she'd run straight into his path as she fled!

Her indecision froze her, and Liema jumped in surprise when the horrible voice echoed from behind her. A raspy whisper, laced with a threatening tone. At that moment a wave of sheer terror passed over Liema... But as soon as the panic had arrived, it left her, and she was surprisingly calm. She'd be rational. She'd try to talk her way out of the situation... And if worse came to worse, she'd run. After all, it wasn't the first time she'd been chased out of a place. and all of her fleeing had granted her quite a bit of speed...

But the male was fast too, and so for now it was probably best to simply attempt to talk things out.

"Oh, this is your land?" Liema said to the other dragon, making sure her tone revealed her ignorance of this fact. She lowered her body and closed her eyes partly; a symbol that she respected his authority in the situation. Maybe that would appeal to this guy. "I'm sorry. I didn't know. I was chasing a doe, and it wandered to this place. I followed it, not knowing that there were any dragons in this part of the mountain. I see that your hunting skills were better than mine, however..." That's right, fluff his ego, Liema thought to herself. Make him feel big and powerful. "So, enjoy your meal. I'll just leave your territory and no harm will be done, alright?"

Orin chuckled low in his throat, a noise that was far from comforting coming from a dragon who still had bits of grass and dry blood stuck to his fur. Black eyes looked down on the female who was ducking so submissively below him, and he gave a pleasant smile before he ducked down as well, getting just a bit lower and sticking his tail in the air, wagging it in the style of an excited hatchling who wanted to play. Of course, he wasn't a hatchling, and that soft rumble of a laugh was still coming from his form as his tail swayed to and fro, fur being blown every which-way by the wind of a slowly approaching storm.

"Now, now, I merely caught that doe by surprise. A pretty little thing like you, though you may not look it for now, seems as though you could have merit for good hunting abilities, you know?" he stated, nodding just a bit and smiling up at the ghostly female. He gestured toward the doe. "You know, you don't seem to be that satiated, as far as having fed recently goes," he stated, slowly pulling his body back into an upright position and sitting in front of the girl, pointing toward the deer with one of his paws. "If you want, you may have as much of the kill as you want; I no longer have any interest in it, as it's no longer moving." Every single word he said came out as though it was a threat, and at the same time, he seemed to ignore that fact, and was speaking almost conversationally toward the female who'd trespassed on his large territory.

"After all..." he started, his voice deepening even further to no more than a low growl. "I can't let you leave, even if you were unaware of the extent of my territory. No less, for this fight, you're going to need all the strength you can get." He lay down in front of her, laying his head on crossed paws, before tilting it to the side curiously, a gentle, easygoing smile on his face. "So, go ahead. Sleep, drink, eat, be merry. For tomorrow, one of us dies," he stated easily, chuckling in a way that was almost humored, if the situation didn't seem to make it mean he was crazy. "And don't try to leave, sweetheart. I promise that you won't even make it to the edge of my territory before I hunt you down. And after all, it would surely be a damper on our fight to have you injured so early on."

A chill went down Liema's spine as the male dragon dropped into a position that most hatchlings used at one time or another. The expression of wanting to play. From the few hatchlings that Liema had ever seen, she recognized the pose as one that was traditionally considered 'cute'. On this particular dragon... The eager expression and wagging tail contrasting sharply with the dried deer blood and cruel eyes... It was evil.

This lone thought was the reason that Liema was so surprised when the male began... exchanging pleasantries? ... No. Even Liema could hear the subtle undertones. Look beyond the words, and you found only one thing; Bloodlust. She was right. The male liked killing, and wasn't satisfied with simple deer.

He wanted to kill her.

With a jolt, Liema comprehended the words he was speaking. He was offering her a share of the kill... If it were any other dragon, she would've accepted thankfully. But this dragon put her on guard... And she found herself wondering if this was a trap. Perhaps he'd allow her to approach the meat, and then the second her lips touched the carcass, he'd attack her for stealing his food...

It was so much worse when he told her what he actually had planned for her.

A fight? Liema thought frantically. But I've never done anything to hurt or threaten this guy! Somehow she got the feeling that that particular argument wouldn't make much sense to this particular dragon.

She didn't see any way out of it. If she fought, he'd kill her. If she ran, he'd kill her. Or worse, he'd injure her and then still make her fight, in which case he'd kill her. If she tried to sneak away, he'd find her and kill her... The only way to escape the torture that was sure to come would be to... Jump off a cliff or something!
In which case she'd still be dead.

Finally, Liema decided that the only thing she could do was do as he said: eat, sleep, and prepare for the upcoming fight.
Who am I kidding? Liema thought to herself as she approached the deer, This won't be a fight... It'll be a Massacre...

She hesitated before eating - he'd slaughtered the deer. It was almost unrecognizable as something that had once been alive. Even the bones were shattered - but she did eat, and then, surprisingly she slept rather well. She didn't even worry about whether the male would lose patience and attack her during the night.

This lack of concern was due to two things.
1) She was fairly sure that he would revel in the agony of waiting for the fight. Like a little hatchling waiting for a hatch-day present to be opened; the anticipation was half the fun.
2) She was going to die anyway. What did it matter where or when? Maybe dieing in her sleep would be less painful...

((Time Shift? You can rp Orin waking up in the morning. ^^))

Orin's ears flicked constantly throughout that night, the soft jingling of the rings in one of his ears a constant reminder that he was still awake, and that the female had better not run off while he was trying to sleep. After all, it would do no good to have to chase after the female and miss a perfect night's sleep, and then a perfectly good fight the next morning! All-in-all, it didn't seem like a very good idea. Anyway, if he had to wake up, chances were that he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep afterward. There wasn't a single noise coming from his body beyond the soft clinking of metal, not even the sound of his breathing seemed to exist. Though, if one looked close enough, they would be back to see the blades of grass swaying to and fro with each inhale and exhale.

As soon as the sun rose over the mountains, the dragon slowly roused from his sleep, stretching his strong body across the grass, yawning widely. A few birds flew off, catching his attention for a moment, before he shook his head a bit, flattening his ears against his head as he trotted off for a bit, hunting down birds which he proceeded to eat whole and still squirming, wiggling a bit at the odd feeling as they continued to squirm while they were going down. As soon as he had his fill of bony animals, he relaxed his ears, letting the rings free from being pressed down, the small bell-like chime that came from them sounding almost pleasant.

He returned to where he'd slept, as well as where the female was sleeping, where he then walked around her a couple times, before he lay down in front of her, tail thumping back and forth as he lowered his snout to the ground, looking straight into her eyes, had they been open. He wasn't smiling for the time being, but rather had a curios expression on his face, as though he didn't understand how someone actually managed to sleep. Surely, that wasn't the case, but it was always possible. That, or it was one of the only two emotions he could feel: Joy and curiosity. That definitely seemed more likely.

The dark-coloured male sat there patiently until the other woke up after a rather lengthy wait, at which time he smiled pleasantly, a sort of greeting. However, when he spoke, any feeling of decency vanished at both the speech as well as the quality of his voice. "Morning, miss. You know, I'm afraid that I never did catch your name...?" he said calmly, blinking at the female a few times. Such kind words for such a terrible, sadistic dragon, weren't they? "After all, I prefer not sending anyone to their deaths unless I know their names, if only for them to be remembered in heroic counts of their dying in battle with myself."

Liema's eyes shot open. She found herself face to face with Orin, the dragon that was going to kill her. Did she always think so morbidly? Perhaps, but it had now taken on a whole new level. She knew that she was going to die today, and sometime during the night, she'd made a decision to do the one thing she could.

Put up a good fight, and perhaps try to injure him enough - if possible - so that he woudn't be able to kill anyone else.

She shuddered slightly as he asked for her name. As if it mattered. Had he asked the name of that deer the night before? There was blood on his lips. Had he asked for the names of his unfortunate breakfast? No. That was just a meal. She was a game to him, and she had to have a name, because otherwise it wouldn't be as fun. Was she making sense? Even in her own mind, her thoughts were driven by panic... She might be getting into his own thoughts... or she might just be going crazy. It didn't matter; she'd be dead soon anyway.

"My name is Liema," she said quietly. She wasn't sure if she wanted to know his name. If he had a name, it would mean he really was a dragon, just like her, which was an awful thought. It was so much easier to think of him as some kind of demon...

"Liema..." Orin repeated softly, the name sounding almost inhuman coming from his lips, and probably wasn't the first thing that the female wanted to hear so early in the morning. Well, one of the first things. He sat back up a moment, before standing, and bowing to her, a soft smile on his lips. "A pleasure to meet you so formally, milady," he said politely, before he went back to sitting, the smile vanishing from his face.

"As much as I hate to, I must set some ground rules before we start, lest the fun be taken out of this fight completely. First, this is meant to be head-to-head, face-to-face combat; sneaking up behind someone is a dirty trick, and will result in... well, I'm not sure. I don't think it's possible to be disqualified, it would just make things less than fun for either of us. Second, the entire territory is good space for the fight, and if you need a place to rest, then you're allowed inside my cave for five-minute intervals, but no more than that. Lastly, the winner takes possession of this entire territory, and... well, we all know what happens to the loser," he commented, chuckling softly.

"So, feel free to find yourself something to eat this morning," he commented, standing up and skipping happily in a circle, before taking up his childish, excited pose once again, tail wagging in the air, before he started off. "By-the-by, my name is Orin," he called out after himself, laughing happily and he ran off to do... whatever it is he was going to do.

Liema winced as the demon said her name. It sounded harsh... ugly coming from his mouth. Once again, the formalities he used made her shudder in revulsion.

She listened quietly as he layed out the 'rules', hoping that he could feel the hate that was radiating from her very being. Hopefully this hate would give her the strength to do what had to be done... whatever that was. Kill him? Impossible. Paralize him? Only slightly more likely. All she knew was that she had to fight as much as she could. She wouldn't just lie down and let him kill her. She. Would. Fight.

Even though she knew the chances of her winning. 0%.

She cringed as he ran off, shouting his name behind him. He was a dragon. Like her. It was impossible that a dragon could be this cruel... But somehow, he was.

Liema shouted in frustration, the cry rising to the tops of the trees, scattering the roosting birds. It dwindled there for a moment, then died, fading into nothing. A lot like what would happen to Liema sometime that day. Once again, with the morbid thoughts.

Then again... Could you blame her?

Liema ran through the trees, looking for a rabbit or something; easy prey that wouldn't put up much of a fight. The last thing she needed was to be injured before the actual battle. A few minutes later, she licked the last of the rabbit from her lips. Then she just stood there, waiting. Best to get it over with... Except that wasn't what... Orin was thinking. He was enjoying it. So, when would he attack?

Ah, the rush was certainly thrilling. It had been so long since he'd felt the rush of the chase, the high that was brought along by the fight, and he trembled softly as he rubbed the remainder of the blood off his face by use of the dirt in front of his cave. The best was yet to happen, however. That first attack was what always, without fail, set his heart to pounding. Of course, how much of a surprise was that? Wounds typically resulted in highs, chemical imbalances in the brain, releases of endorphins and adrenaline. And he definitely knew that.

After all, he always led on the beginning of the fight.

A deep, hoarse laugh echoed from his throat and he glanced skyward with a grin. Despite that fact, despite that he was going to let that female thing that she was winning, he certainly hoped that it didn't get too much later before the fight was over. Not that it would be a waste of time or anything. Simply that it was nicer to celebrate a victory while the sun was still fresh in the sky, and the birds still sung sweetly with the wind. He laughed to himself. That definitely wasn't how most dragons believed his mind ran, was it? But, then again, that was why he was like this, wasn't it? Such a sociopath? Not a one of them had understood him, or even bothered to do so.

Liema was no exception.

A growl rose up from his chest at that thought. Yes... he wanted her gone. He wanted them all gone. He darted back out into the open, going back to where she'd last seen Liema and tracking her to her new location easily. As soon as he found the female, he darted out in front of her, body low, lips pulled back in a snarl, body low to the ground, tail lashing furiously behind him. "Make. Your. Move."
PostPosted: Wed May 06, 2009 3:33 pm

Liema screamed as Orin suddenly appeared. She shied backward, shaking, terrified.

Wait... She was still alive. He hadn't killed her. Why wasn't he attacking yet?

"Make. Your. Move." He growled.

"Y-y-you want me to attack first?!" Liema wailed, "Wh-wh-why?!"

She lowered herself to the ground, cowering in spite of herself. Maybe she really should just attack him. Didn't people say that the best defense was a good offense? But on the other hand, he wanted her to attack, which mean that he must have something planned... Not to mention he was expecting her to attack. He'd just bat her aside like a racoon batting at a passing fly.

So what should she do, wait? She'd already decided that she would have to fight, but... When should she... start?

Orin dug his claws into the soil, awaiting an attack from the female. But she didn't make one and he hadn't the slightest idea why anyone wouldn't take that advantage.

But she didn't. He didn't want an easy fight.

"I don't want an easy fight," he growled softly, voicing the thoughts that drifted through his head with almost no hesitation. "I don't want to have to kill you without even needing to try. If I make the first move, if I'm the first to attack, I'll likely kill you instantly, if not leave you begging for me to end it. But I don't want that. I don't want it to be over that fast," he growled angrily, finally losing his temporary patience and launching himself forward, taking a snap at her shoulder, though it would leave no more than a fang-sized gash if anything.

"I want you to have a chance, and not attacking will give me the upper hand, and you'll die without even trying," he said, the anger in his voice growing with each syllable, ears flicking back and causing his earrings to jingle softly. "The first move was mine. I was barely trying; in fact, I was trying to not try. So you see how much damage I can cause doing just that. Stop asking questions. Make your move. Now."
PostPosted: Thu May 07, 2009 2:29 pm

Liema screamed again as he snapped at her shoulder. He'd nicked her. He'd drawn blood. But she wasn't thinking about that.

"Now. Before he recovers all the way and we get into another awful round of waiting to see who attacks first," Liema thought to herself determinedly as she let out as mighty a roar as she could muster and throwing herself at the male, claws extended toward her face. "Go for the eyes," she thought subconsciously, "maybe if you could blind him..."

...but he could read her moves all too easily.

He'd seen too many fights, won too many battles to go down so easily. He knew what she was going for and, as such, pushed his upper body higher, pressed his nose skyward, causing her claws to scrap below his eyes, putting gashes in his cheeks. But there were no cries of pain, no real sound of the fact that he'd been wounded except for a soft chuckle deep inside his throat.

That didn't seem like a reassuring sound.

Dropping his body, he slipped between her front legs and spun around, facing her once again, the scrapes on his face making him appear as though he was crying blood. His lips turned up in a smirk, a growl rumbling in his throat. "My turn," he murmured, more to himself than to her, before he jumped forward, snapping at one of her ears, or anything near there, that he would be able to sink his teeth into. And, of course, use the force of motion to tear whatever it was off.
