Still a work in progress, but I had to make a short story for my English class so I did it on Melohim's death. I'm going to add more later, like how he wound up becoming a shinigami and such, but for now here it is.

This story is set in a land called Aloran. It is a land that is mostly covered in large forests, with only a couple of cities, and a few dozen towns. One of these is the small woodlands village of Celest, set deep within the forests, and nigh impossible to find unless you happen to be a resident. A few kilometres north of Celest is a great lake that is more like a small sea. Life is abundant in the forest; woodland creatures of all shapes and sizes reside within its mighty trees and rich soil. The people of Celest enjoy a life of peace and prosperity and spend their time pursuing whatever dreams they possess. It is here that our tale begins. Two young Kitsune are training in the forest not too far from the lake. Their training is cut short however, when an evil creature known only as Rinashu comes to hunt them down, intent on sating his thirst for blood.

“What a beautiful day.” Melohim sighed as he stepped out into the clearing; he was wearing a red long sleeve shirt, black pants with a white sash, and his favourite long black and red robe, perfect garments for training in. As he walked into the center of the clearing, he revelled in the feel of the wind blowing over his fur. Melohim had black fur covering most of his body, the only other colour being white, which covered the tips of his ears and tail and in an oval shape on his torso.
“Wouldn’t you agree Cassandra?” He continued, turning to face the female Kitsune, She was wearing a similar outfit, but in browns, and creams.
“Yes it certainly is lovely,” she replied. Both their tones were ones of appreciation, for the landscape around them. The clearing was in a small forest, just outside of their woodlands town. A small creek ran along the west side of the clearing, and the songs of small birds could be heard in the surrounding trees.
“So what will we practice today?” Cassandra asked quizzically. Hopefully today, things will go a little more smoothly then last time, she thought as the memory came to her. She was in love with Melohim, but she couldn’t seem to extract the same emotion from him. She had tried inviting him on dates, but what should have been romantic, turned out to be a simple meeting between very good friends. This time will be different, she thought. This time, I’ll come straight out and tell him how I feel.

“I was thinking that we could do some tai-chi today, since we did element training yesterday.” That was fun. Melohim pondered the happenings of the previous day. They had trained in the elements that they controlled, he could control lightning, and Cassandra could control the earth. Good thing too, or this clearing would have been ruined, elemental training is always hard on the landscape. After the training, Cassandra had returned the clearing to its original state.
“Shall we get started?” Without hesitating, Melohim put his feet together, with his hands at his side the opening stance for a common tai-chi routine, meant to relax mind, body, and soul.

Perfect, if he’s relaxed, he won’t be as stand-offish as he usually is. Cassandra bit her lip a little as she completed that last thought, Melohim could be downright reclusive at times, and to her mind that just wasn’t healthy. I mean, I can understand wanting time alone, but he seems to want a whole lifetime alone. He never visits his parents, and I think I’m his only true friend. Oh, but if I can just get through to him, make him love me, maybe, just maybe I can get him to be more social. After they went through the routine a couple of times, they moved on to a different one, then another, and then another. When they had run through all of the routines that were necessary for a good days training, they sat down and began to meditate.
For a while they just sat there enjoying the sound of the wildlife around them, then Cassandra decided to break the silence.
“Hey Melohim, how do you feel about us?” She hoped she wasn’t being to forward, she didn’t want to make him get defensive.
Melohim replied calmly, “I feel that we as close as friends two friends could ever be, if that’s what you mean.”
“Well, do you think we could ever be more than friends?” Cassandra bit her lip again as she said those words, she hugged her knees to her chest, and her ears turned back slightly betraying her nervousness.
“What exactly are you implying Cassandra?” Melohim leaned forward as he spoke, and rested his head on his right arm, supported by his knee. She can’t be thinking what I think she’s thinking, I mean I love her and all, but not romantically, I consider her part of my family, not as a potential lover. Melohim was beginning to get nervous as well, but refused to let that show.
Cassandra tightened her grip on her knees as she spoke her tail flicking back and forth across the cool grass. “What I mean, is… I love you Melohim, I want to be with you forever, and I want you to love me too.” Oh, I hope he doesn’t reject me now, I just couldn’t handle it.
Melohim sighed, and repeated his thoughts to Cassandra. “Cassandra, you are my dearest friend, and I love you as if you were my sister. I think …” Any further speech was cut off by Cassandra, who was beginning to cry. Good one Melohim, way to make her upset. “I didn’t mean to upset you,” he moved over to where Cassandra was sitting, and put his arm around her.
“I just wanted…”

“Oh spare me your speech!” Cassandra rose to her feet, her ears flatted back against her skull, tail lashing back and forth angrily. “All I’ve ever wanted was your love, can’t you see that!”
With that she turned and ran across the clearing and into the woods, towards the great lake. As she ran, the sunlight glinted of the stream off tears that trailed behind her.
Melohim hung his head and sighed, his ears and tail drooping a bit.
“I guess I’d better head after her, if she’s crying she won’t be on guard for predators.”
It wasn’t that either of them couldn’t handle the wolves, and such that lived in the forest, but he didn’t want one sneaking up on her while she was crying. Getting up, he calmly walked after her, hoping that by the time he caught up to her, she would have calmed down a bit, and they could sit down and talk about her feelings.
Rinashu finished off his prey in a couple of mouthfuls. This one hadn’t been particularly satisfying; its blood was bland and tasteless, like watered down soup. Just as he began wondering where he would find his next meal, he heard the sound of something moving in the forest. He pricked up his ears so as to hear better. His hearing was exceptional; he was after all a Nogestune. He was an evil creature, a former Kitsune. He became a Nogetsune, when he attacked one of his fellow Kitsune and accidentally got some of that Kitsune’s blood in his mouth. After that, he was cursed to always have a thirst for more blood, one that would never be satisfied. Damn curse makes it so I can’t just use my darkness powers, to bring whatever it is right to me. Rinashu’s power was over the body and the mind. He could control his victim’s body or mind and make them do his bidding. Except now I can’t control minds anymore. Now I actually have to sneak up on my prey. While he was thinking about how bad his life was, he began to sneak off after Cassandra, intent on feasting upon her blood.

Cassandra went crashing though the forest, not really caring that she was being totally oblivious to anything that might decide to follow her. How could he, he doesn’t understand, I need him, without his love, I just don’t feel I can carry on. In due course she came to the edge of the great lake. There, she collapsed onto her knees, her whole body shaking as she sobbed.
“I’m sorry, am I interrupting?”
An icy voice pierced the peaceful quiet of the forest, sending a chill down Cassandra’s spine. She rose and turned, and then she saw it. Whatever it was, it wasn’t a Kitsune, though it looked like one. It was covered in blood, both old and fresh, and its clothing was tattered and torn.
“Who, what are you?” Cassandra asked, trying to stop herself from crying, this was no time to be thinking about her own sorrows. Whatever this thing was, it was evil, and it was up to her to stop it.
Rinashu smiled, revealing two rows of wicked teeth, “I am Rinashu, a Nogetsune. Don’t bother introducing yourself, I already know who you are…. You’re… my dinner!” With that, he charged at Cassandra, drawing a long knife from within his tattered clothing. He made sure that his eyes were locked on to Cassandra’s, exerting what power he had left, paralyzing her so she would be unable to fight back.

As Rinashu charged, Cassandra prepared to use her powers to defend herself, and found that she couldn’t move. What is this? I can’t move! Panic briefly took her over, and then acceptance took its place. It doesn’t matter, I don’t have Melohim’s love, so what’s the point in living? She stood held still by Rinashu’s power, and waited for his knife to reach her, ready for death. She found herself able to close her eyes, just before the knife pierced her midsection. Goodbye Melohim, I love you.

There was the sound of a blade piercing flesh, but oddly no pain came. Cautiously, Cassandra opened her eyes, and saw Melohim standing in front of her.
“Melohim! What are you doing!” Fear consumed her, for she had heard the knife enter flesh, so that must mean… Oh no!
Coughing, Melohim replied, “Saving your life.” He coughed again, and this time blood came out of his mouth, and spattered on the ground.
“Saving your life?” Rinashu repeated, “Ha ha ha, and how do you plan to do that with my blade in your gut?” His laugh was sinister, and his voice sent another shiver down Cassandra’s spine.
“Like this,” Melohim replied, and with those words, he summoned all of his strength, and fired the biggest bolt of lightning he had ever created directly into the Nogetsune’s heart, killing him instantly. The now charred body of Rinashu, collapsed to the ground, dragging the knife out of Melohim as it did so. Melohim stood strong and silent for a moment, and then he too collapsed, into the arms of Cassandra.
As she laid Melohim down on the ground Cassandra whispered, “You idiot why would you do that?” Tears flowed unhindered down her cheeks, and as she watched the only love of her life, start to die, she blamed herself for his death. If only I hadn’t run off.
“Ha,” Melohim laughed as the world began to go dark. “It’s because I love you silly. If there is one thing you can learn from my death, let it be this,” he paused to cough up some more blood. “Just because you love someone, doesn’t mean you are IN love with them, there are different kinds of love, and they are all just as special. Now go, live your life, and pass this lesson on to your children, so they never repeat this mistake.” His voice had gotten fainter as he finished his speech, and once it was complete, he closed his eyes, and died.
Cassandra hung her head in sorrow, her ears drooping, and as her tears fell to hit Melohim’s face, she said, “I will Melohim, I promise… I love you.”
