AIM Log - Felyn & DFA
Khalla & Roho

It had been a peaceful couple of days since they had arrived in the long dead pride, and where many would have had some qualms about staying in a land that was essentially the equivalent of a ghost town, Khalla seemed quite unperturbed. Despite the fact that her whole pride had perished here, she seemed content in the idea that they were all in the afterlife, perhaps because she had come back to perform the funeral rights upon the land herself after she heard of their demise. It was a sad thing, when whole prides were killed, like so many had been during the plague.

Today saw Khalla sitting on a rocky cliff that met at a point, her form sitting calmly upon the edge as she stared out over the valleys and mountains that spread out around the pride heart. She could feel in the air that the snows were coming soon and that was what she truly wished to stay and see. Besides being her most favorite time of year as a child, they were also said to have great healing properties. She could truly use that, and she was sure, though he had never told her why, that Roho could too.

Her amber eyes turned to stare out towards the beginning sunset, the sky around her darkening, leaving her white pelt shining in contrast. Night would be upon them soon, the time Enye Giza was at his most powerful. She'd want to go back to the cave they had been using, to be safe, but for now she could enjoy the sunset. She wasn't too far from the cave, after all.

Roho was not having quite as good a day as Khalla was.

He was perturbed and horribly nervous, but above all, he was scared. These were not new feelings for him, for he was rather used to them, however, he wasn't all that used to feeling them all at the same bloody time. Heck - he wasn't at all used to not knowing what it was he was feeling, so swift were his moods changing that they did not give him time to adjust to them.

On one hand, he'd brought the girl to the land (which was, by the way, horribly creepy - he could have sworn the land was filled with ghost, which was a stupid thought given the fact he was a god and thus he knew ghosts to be unreal). On the other hand... he was still there despite the fact he probably SHOULD have left after bringing her to the land safe and sound like he'd promised. It taken a bit longer than Khalla was probably used to, but that was because he'd avoided going through places he thought were unsafe. Sadly enough, that meant that 90% of the bloody landscape had been ruled out as unsafe and thus avoided by going around it.

He'd told himself to leave several times now, and yet every time he tried (honestly, he was trying, really he was), he couldn't bring himself to leave her, for unknown reasons. It tugged at his windpipe to think about though he couldn't phantom why. Also, he was getting.... horribly tired of staying disguised within his mortal form - it was sapping his energy and sleep wasn't helping restore it. Soon enough, he was pretty sure he was going to have to drop his facade and rest in his god form. He just... wasn't sure where the hell he could do that without risking her walking in on him.

He found himself padding towards Khalla (whom he'd spotted from a distance) even despite his thoughts - drawn to her like a moth to a flame, "What are you watching?" he asked finally as he drew nearer, seating himself beside her, though at a polite, safe distance, his large dark frame a contrast against hers. His voice sounded horribly sapped and tired, and his whole body seemed to sag in the growing darkness.

Ahhh... blessed darkness.

She had heard him coming - it was hard not to. He was a large male and on the rocky overhang they were on, rocks crunched and shifted beneath his enormous weight. Despite that, she didn't turn to look over her shoulder in paranoia, but simply let him come up to sit beside her in the knowledge that he was a protector and not a threat.

"The sunset," she said pleasantly, turning to look at him with a gentle smile. Everything about her was gentle, even more so now that she was back to her original home. Being here had washed away pain and left her feeling restored. There would always be that knowledge of what had been, but it had been healed, it was a scar in her past. "It's always the most beautiful from here, and I've missed it. Do you want to watch it with me?"

Despite the smile on her maw, inwardly she was beginning to worry. She'd noticed the growing fatigue in him and she had to wonder if he'd somehow contracted a sickness. Being that her whole pride had been wiped out by one, no doubt Enye Giza's doing, it was something that weighed heavily upon her mind. "Are you feeling alright?" She wasn't sure why, but the thought of losing him to the darkness was.. painful. He had been her guardian for such a long, grueling journey.

The sunset, huh.

She probably didn't see the sunset in the same way that he did, that was for sure. For him, the moment the sun sank into the earth, it was a relief - he was master of the enviroment, and though... he hadn't really done it since he'd been with her, he could hide in the darkness.

It was safety for him.

Daylight was too bright for his tastes and made him horribly and utterly skittish. Quite the sight to behold, taking into account how large he was. He'd often times frightened over the silliest things in the daylight.

Her invitation tore him violently from his thoughts and he found himself blinking in confussion - he WAS watching it with her. Did she mean nearer to her? Did she mean laying down with her? Physically touching her? Was he reading too much into it and she was simply being polite and just telling him to stay?

His mind was obviously racing and his current lack of energy was not helping him one bit in trying to figure out what he should and should not do.

It was once again her voice that pulled him out of his racing thoughts, and he found himself gaping at her before a sound came out, "I..... yes. Yes I am. I mean no - I am just horribly tired, is all. Nothing to worry about," letting out a wary sigh, he threw caution to the wind, got up and lay down near her, "And yes, I would like to stay if I'm allowed," still, he had managed to lay just beyond her reach - enough that he could feel her heat radiating from her... yet still far away that they were not touching, "Just tired."

And he had no idea when he'd lose grip of the illusion - this thought was also not helping.

Their views of the sunset were probably the complete opposite, though Khalla had no way of knowing that. Khalla saw something beautiful, elegant, but the last hope of daylight that ultimately led to the most fearsome time for her. Night represented everything that was dangerous and bad - the sunset was both beautiful and dangerous for that reason alone.

She watched him through his silent turmoil, her smile turning into a slight frown and her tail flipping idly behind her as she waited for his answer. "As long as you aren't getting sick, I'd feel terrible if I'd somehow brought that upon you." What was worse is that she actually meant it. She was afraid Enye Giza would spite her by killing him. The deeper meaning behind that was carefully skipped over, but it was felt none-the-less.

Still, her smile returned a little as he got up to sit neaer to her, and she let her gaze return to the sunset. "Of course you're allowed, why ever wouldn't you be?" She narrowed her eyes at the sun a bit, staring at the deep red orb as it slowly began to sink closer and closer to the horizon. "You know you've been a very, very good friend to me, don't you?" What she wanted to say was hard to articulate, but that was a beginning.

He felt himself smiling at her, though his expression was tired, making it look almost ironic, sad in a way, "No, I'm not sick - just tired," he wasn't sure he COULD get sick. His mind could not even remember a time when he'd been sick. Her worry and concern were obviously appreciated though - he also could not even recall the last time someone had worried about him. When people saw him, they usually worried about themselves, and no one had taken the time to get to know him as she had.

Then again, that was his fault, for he'd never given others an opening. He wouldn't have given Khalla an opening either, had circumstances not called for it. He simply could not leave her where he'd found her, in need of help.

It was ironic too, that in a way she WAS the source of his pain at the moment - he'd never spent so much time in this form, and he could actually already feel his grip on the illusion slowly slipping away, little by little. He was struggling to maintain it just a while longer - just long enough that she'd retire to the cave. Then he'd excuse himself, saying he was going to go hunt something and allow the illusion to drop.

He brought a paw up to rub at his eyes and then the bridge of his nose, findding it hard to focuss, "I... don't wish to disturb," was his honest answer as he let out a sigh. It was her next set of words that undid him though - no sooner had she said them that he felt his grip on the illusion slip entirely, so surprised had he been by such a statement. The moment his grip slipped, the illusion shattered like a mirror around him.

"You're not a disturbance," she said softly, a gentle smile on her maw as she stared out at the sunset. For a moment, for a moment longer she was staring obliviously at the sun in the distance. Just as the sun sank, however, her dream world was going with it. She turned her head to give him that smile and her whole world erupted. "You're actually rather sweet -" but then, her words died right on her lips.

She leapt to her feet, eyes instantly wide with fear, accusation written across her face. "I.. you.." She was gasping, barely capable of articulating a single word let alone a sentence. She was in a defensive stance in an instant, backing away from him and towards the edge of the cliff mindlessly. It didn't matter that there was danger in that direction - the real danger was right in front of her.

"You tricked me," it was somewhere between a wail and a whisper, a sound of pure horror as she stared into the eyes of the very creature she had been raised to fear above all others me. "To sink so low!" She was blind in her panic, her feet teetering on the edge of the cliff at this point. She couldn't see anything but the black beast in front of her - Enye Giza. Her guardian all this time was nothing but a foul trickster.

He winced.

There was nothing else he could do for a long, silent moment, however, her words, her tone of voice, everything - it caused him to flinch almost as if he'd been physically struck. He knew he wasn't going to be able to hold the illusion for ever, but he'd been hoping that... that.... honestly, he wasn't even sure what he'd been hoping or thinking.

His gaze raised up towards her, but his expression was hard to read. The fact his eyes were mere red lights in darkened voids made them unreadable, and though he did grimace, he had protruding fangs, rather than normal teeth - it lessened the effect of the expression on the outside world. He tried to open his mouth - to get his mind working so he might explain himself, but he was still so tired.

It was then he noticed she was baking up towards the cliff and he was on his feet in a flash, taking a step towards her, "The cliff!" he stopped stepping towards her though, fearing that each step he took would mean several taken back by her. He was used to fear and yet this time he wasn't afraid for himself - he was afraid for her and he had no idea how to fix this.

Instead he shifted his weight and spread his wings, looking lost, looking confused, guilty and a whole array of other emotions - her accusations were also not helping. Each one of them caused him to flinch back, his frame shrinking, recoiling, only to rebound back as soon as he noticed how near she was to the cliff, "Khalla..." it was a plea by now, "Khalla! The cliff!" he wasn't all too sure she was even listening and he was entering a state of panic himself.

Roho was right - Khalla wasn't listening. Khalla wasn't listening to a damn thing he was saying. He could have been making a speech in greek and she still wouldn't have noticed. No, the only thing that had grabbed Khalla's attention was his transformation.

He had glowing red eyes, eyes that stared into her soul and tried to suck her dry. He had huge black wings, like ravens or vultures - all things dark and evil. His fangs were long and deadily, maybe even venomous for all she knew. She was staring at the face of a.. monster.

When his wings spread, her horror-stricken face broke into even more panic and her legs scrambled back further. With a surprised wail, her back legs slipped over the edge, despite all his warnings. She scrambled with her front paws but in seconds her body was beginning to plummet straight towards the ground.

What a wicked end it would be.

"The cliff!" he warned one last time, and there was desperation dripping from his voice which usually remain awkwardly hesitant. He actually took one step forward and stretched out one of his forepaws, as if to grab her, but was stopped by the look of sheer horror in her eyes.

That face. That look. It was even worse than he'd ever imagined - it was a horribly vivid reaction, far more intense than any mortal had ever shown him, and in that second of hesitation from him, the female stumbled over the dreaded cliff. He watched her as if in slow-motion and for the first time since he could remember, actual, raw panic hit him. His paw which remain outstretched, hovering innocently, closed around empty space, simply air.

He found himself frozen stiff for what coule have been minutes, days, weeks even but was only barely a second. Then, with force and energy he really did not think he still possesed after days cloaked under an illusion, he spread his wings and with jumped off the cliff, plunging after her. It was both luck and effort that allowed him to reach her before they crashed on the ground. And it was with his last shreds of energy that he grabbed her as best as a lion ever could and teleported them miliseconds before they would have meet their end, crushed against the ground.

While it was true he avoided a major crash by teleporting... he had very litte energy left and they reappeared meters away from the place they would have hit, landing on the ground still with a thud, yet with simply a small fraction of the force she would have had he not intervened. He'd also somehow managed to arrange the fall so that it was he whom took the blunt of the crash against the ground, forcing the air out of his lungs.

The scene was almost ironicaly familiar, almost similar to how he'd found her, except now the roles were reversed and he was to spent, both physically and emotionally to care.

It had been a terrifying fall and as cliche as it was, her whole life had passed before her eyes. Her pride and her family, her training and her teacher, her wandering and the sweet time with her beloved, and this.. this treachery. The male that had single-handedly earned her trust and then betrayed it all in a short time.

So many thoughts were flashing through her head as she fell, quickly, towards an unfortunate death. It was only be sheer luck that she saw his form plummeting after her and her panic was increased double-fold. Was he here to claim her before she was even done for? She wasn't sure which she would rather first - hitting the ground or having him reach her. The ground seemed like a pleasant option when faced with male that embodied all the sins of the world.

Just as she was sure she was going to splatter, however, she felt him grab her. At first, she felt as if she should scream, but all too quickly she felt herself moved and then there was a strong jolt. Her eyes slowly opened from where she had shut them insurprise, only to find that she was being cradled in the strong arms of the devil himself.

"No, oh no," she breathed, back away from his form and forcing her way out of his entangled arms. She was confused, that much was clearly written on her face. For what purpose had he saved her? "I don't understand this," she said after a long moment of gathering herself, her feet ever so slowly backing away from him.

As he felt her withdrawing from him, he let out a sigh of relief, then allowed his head to fall back against the ground with a soft thud, his hrns drawing long lines upon the humid ground. His eyes closed, or at least.... so it seemed, for the lights simply vanished. For a moment he concidered just staying there, because goddamnit, she was safe and she was moving and she was safe and she was unhurt enough to walk away from him.

He would do well just... letting her go. He should have never even intervened in the first place, and yet he couldn't continue that train of thought, "I just couldn't leave you there, I'm sorry," it was murmured with a sigh. He just had no idea how to explain himself. On one hand he was relieved he no longer had to maintain a facade, and on the other... he'd lost her and it hurt much more than it really had the right to. It hurt much worse than the fall and crash had.

He mustered enough energy to roll himself over, but it was clear he wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon and talking was the only thing he could do. Even that seemed like a feat, "You were there, and I just... I couldn't leave you there. I didn't know how to approach without... so I..." he cut himself off, obviously having trouble, "I just couldn't leave you there," he repeated again, this time as a whisper. For a creature so big he looked rather pathetic.

She had finally become so afraid that she was simply frozen - completely frozen with fear. She had stopped away from him, huddled in on herself and staring wide-eyed at his figure. There was nowhere to run to now, no where for her to hide. They were on the ground. Now that she had seen his power she was sure that she could never get away from him.

And for whatever reason, that knowledge made her actually listen to him.

It wasn't exactly what she was expecting to hear, that was for certain. He was apologizing? Enye Giza did not apologize. He did not feel guilt. He relished in the pain and suffering he caused others. Yet, here he was (for this was obviously him) telling her he hadn't meant to trick her. What exactly had he meant to do then? And why couldn't he leave her? What was going on? So many thoughts were whirling through her head at once that she felt faint and drained, perhaps more so than Roho himself. She would have sat down to take the pressure off if she'd not been so scared of seeming vulnerable to him - or at least more so.

"I'm confused," she whispered hoarsely, her eyes still wide and her face still aghast. Yet, beneath it she was beginning to find something else. A deep feeling of hurt, pain at being betrayed. It was if she was losing something she hadn't even begun to fathom, something already important, and as it was being stripped away it was leaving scars. "What would you want with me?"

Her common sense was at odds with her faith, her eyes at odds with her mind. She was conflicted and hurting and she likely didn't know up from down.

"You were in pain,"she told her with a sigh. Even sighing was making him feel.... weary and it was certainly not helping him try to explain. Shifting his pose a bit though only minimaly he managed to open his eyes, looking up at her (for yes, in their current position, with him on the ground, she was towering over him, if at a distance). His sides were rising and falling as he breathed heavily, still trying to regain his energy - the darkness helped, but only minimally, "You were suffering and you were alone. I just couldn't leave you there... and the only way I could think of doing that was by... only showing a small part of me," he closed his eyes briefly and fixed them on her, trying to make her understand, but it was extremely hard when he, himself, wasn't even sure what he was trying to convey, "You were in pain," he stressed, "You were alone and you needed help. I'm sorry...that I was the only choice in help that you got."

And he really was. That much was obvious.

Her words pained him, and he flinched again, looking away from her as he turned his head to stare off elsewhere, "I just wanted to help," he'd never helped anyone before. At least not since... forever. He'd always kept away from others and this right here was no doubt why, "I meant you no harm - I'm sorry. I tried to leave, several times, but I just ..." he risked a glance at her, "I couldn't. So I stayed. But staying in that form drained me so horribly," a pause as he released a breath of air he hadn't realised he'd been holding, "My name is Roho'eusi," he made sure to stress that, for whatever reason, "I am darkness. I usually stay out of the light, but I just... you needed help."

Maybe he needed help, too.

She had been alone, she knew. She recalled that night. He had been like a guardian angel then, sweeping in from the darkness to comfort her in her darkest hour. That strong, dark rogue had been nothing like this.. this monster.

But then there was that phrase, that one simple sentence - I just wanted to help. How many times had she said those self same words to others? How many times had they not believed her? She felt the sting of tears at the corners of her eyes and turned her head away from his awful gaze. She felt so conflicted and lost, where was guidance when she needed it?

"Enye Giza is darkness," was all she could manage, staring down at her pale feet as hot tears rolled off of her fur and hit the dry ground beneath them. He was claiming another name, Roho'Eusi. He was claiming he had hidden to help her. He was claiming all of this and doing nothing but sitting there, staring at her, not making a move. "I don't understand any of this." With that, she fell to her haunches, staring at her paws as if they might give her an answer.

There could not be two rulers of darkness. He was either Enye Giza or he was not, and if he was not, Enye Giza did not exist. If he didn't, then she had more soul searching to do than she could even fathom. "I don't understand what you are if you are not Enye Giza, I don't understand why you would help me if you are." She brought teary-eyes up to look at him, a small spark of radiance still shining - a spark of ferocity.

He would have laughed bitterly, if he could have mustered the energy to do so. As it was, he only offered her a strangely pathetic look, saddened, as if really, this were not the first time he'd heard such words, as if he were used to them... and yet they seemed to sting further than they'd ever done before. Even with previous knowledge of what she thought, the words still stung him horribly, "Enye Giza is not darkness. I have no idea whom he might be - he sounds more like Evil. I do not know - what I do know, is that I am darkness, and my name is most certainly not Enye Giza," a weary sigh was released and he managed to move with a hiss, the pain it caused rather visible and he stopped, giving up the attempt to stand, "I look like this because of you," his eyes were solemn under the mask, not that she could see, "All of you.... every single one of you. Every soul that believes in darkness - they're all responsible for how I look. I look like this because this is what they think of me."

It was right then and there that he realised he would have given up anything to get up and simply lay back down beside her - to take back the contact she'd so often offered and he'd shied away from. He'd have given up anything he possesed for it right now, and the knowledge was enough to cause him stiffen. Again he would have laughed, this time at himself, but he kept his mouth shut for a long moment, some unknown feeling tugging inside him, making him feel like he couldn't get enough air into his lungs despite the fact he was breathing normally, "I am Roho'eusi," he stressed it again, still desperate to drive that small fact in. Even if he'd lost her, he wanted her to understand, and the pain... the pain was not letting him think.

"You might have the right name... but the wrong domain. I do not know him," as she snapped her head back to look at him, teary eyed and yet with such a spark of... life in her eyes, he found himself trying to raise himself from the ground again, still with little success, "I helped you because I... have never helped anyone before. I stayed away, fearful of their power over me - fearful of what they'd say, how they'd react to me. I wanted to help you because it felt right to do so," he stopped trying to raise himself to his feet and gave up again, this time with a frustrated sound. His head turned away from her, and if there was a way for a lion like Roho to look sheepish, he certainly did at that moment in time, "And I stayed because I like you. You wouldn't look at me with fear in your eyes, and you were nice. I've never had before."

There was no room in her faith for things outside of the Guardian and Darkness, they didn't believe in gods like other lions did. Yet here this creature was telling her that there were others? With other domains? A frown formed on her maw and sheturned her gaze up to the last streaks of sun on the horizon. Could it be possible that the thing they feared most in the world had never been Darkness at all? Evil, he said. All that was evil.

"I don't know anymore," she said quietly, her voice hoarse from the strain. He was turning everything in her world upside down in one moment, one solitary minute. "I don't know anything about your kind, all I know is what I was raised to believe, and I can't apologize if we have somehow wronged you unintentionally." She frowned and turned her eyes back to him, staring silently at him for a long time.

Could she shun him? He who had been her dark angel? No, she knew that answer, her heart sung it as clearly as her eyes did in that single moment. Could she accept him in that instant for who and what he was? That was also a no. Belief did not change at the drop of a hat. "I fear Enye Giza," she said quietly, her voice not quite as affectionate as it had been before but neither was it.. fearful. "I'm not sure what you are, or what he is, but I think it's clear you are not one and the same."

She sighed then, turning and looking up at he cave she had fallen from. "I need time, Roho. I need to think." She needed to think about so much, everything, all of this. She didn't want him to leave, which was perhaps the most unsettling thought of all.

He shook his head - he didn't want an apology. What was done, was done, and how he looked could not be changed by an apology. In all honesty, it served him well. It kept others away, even if the exhistance was rather lonely. Funny how he'd never really thought of that before. Funny how his whole world had been toppled over by just barely a few days of company.

The idea of having to leave and return back to his old life made him flatten his ears back against his neck - it was the first sign of resistence and rebellion he'd shown in a very, very long time, "That was why I wanted to stay ... in a form you could understand. I'm sorry," and he really was. He had no idea why he kept apologising - after all, saying it a number or times did not fix things.

As she spoke again, he winced mildly, his breath coming out in a resigned puff of air - he knew she feared Enye Giza. He'd known that since almost the first day, and yet he'd stayed. It was obviouslt however, that he had not been expecting her to elaboate, because her next words took him by surprise. He watched her as she spoke and for the first time since the illusion had shattered he felt a small glimmer of hope.

It was small, but it was there, visible despite the groing darkness. Perhaps it was that notion that finally granted him the strength to push himself to his feet, or perhaps it was sheer willpower - it was hard to tell, "Time,"he said in a breath, though it was clear that he was relieved... even that small metaphorical bone that she'd tossed him was enough, "I've got time," he had all the time in the world, ironicaly enough.

A pause followed and he looked awkwardly out of place standing there, almost as if torn. He had no idea if he should leave her to think all alone, or if he should stay. He had no idea what to do, and ironically enough, turned his head to watch her instead, obviously waiting for a dimisal of some sort - regardless of what she asked, he would not go far. It was hard to ponder he'd been spending his time alone for a while - he'd grown used to her presence beside him.

Should she be grateful that he had thought of her feelings, or simply feel betrayed that the guardian she had known turned out to be something out of a child's tale? This was just one of many questions on her mind, and the longer she stood there staring at him, the harder it was for her to make any sense of it.

"I don't know when my mind will have made sense of this," she said quietly, shaking her head, "but I think perhaps I should stay in the cave alone tonight." Her words didn't sound as if there were a finality attached to them at least - quite contrary, in fact, her phrasing almost seemed to imply there was a future.

She turned her back to him, feeling her heart dropping into a pit as she did so. Even when he showed his true self, there was something about him that was calling to her. She paused then and looked back over her shoulder, having only walked a few steps. First she glanced at the horizon where the sun had set, at the violets and oranges that were sinking into the sky. "Don't go far, please?" And beneath all her sudden determination was that tiny child-like spark - she was still afraid of the darkness.

Then she turned, not waiting for an answer, and began her ascent back up the trail to the cave. It would be well into darkness before she got there, but even if she feared it, something about it was a little less scary.

He wasn't expecting her to make sense out of it all. Not now, and not so soon. Specially not when he, himself, was still struggling to catch on. He had no more words to offer and instead watched her calmly, still waiting for the dismisal, still waiting because he couldn't for the life of him, figure out what he had to do.

His only real hope and relief was that he really did have all the time in the world and he wasn't sure she even understood the extent of that notion nor how far it stretched.

Her request made that small glimmer of hope that much bigger and he found himself watching her as she padded away - it wasn't till she'd been engulfed by the darkness that he moved, and surprisingly enough, it wasn't away from the scene. Instead, he took a few steps forward and vanished into the darkness of the night, somewhere in the general direction of the cave.
