A memory was a strange thing, it played with the body as well as the mind. It had been an odd year, she didn't know who she was or what she was doing, she had met friends along her wandering way but she never knew where she belonged. She still didn't. It was odd not having a life.
She had eaten well the day before and now, as usual, she walked, she never quite knew where she was going or if she was meant to settle, if she was meant to roam forever or whom she would met on her journey.
She had been discovering her life all over again, yet still she felt as lost as her memories.
As the sun started to set she found herself standing upon an outcrop of rocks, a mound of black shimmering stone in the middle of a field of dusty browns and gentle greens. She let a sigh roll over her lips as she watched the sky turn from perfect blue to deepest blush, it was a beautiful evening to be alive even if she didn't have anything to look forward to tomorrow, no past, no future seemed to be her life, yet she could still appreciate the beauty of the world before her.

He left the god-child sleeping. Whether it actually slept or not, Ed’garde was not sure- but he certainly seemed to go for days on end suspended in a kind of lethargic and deadened state. He would be in ear shot if his presence was required- but, for the moment Ed’garde knew when he was not needed. He often found it hard to busy himself with things during the day. If he wasn’t hunting something… life fell to a kind of inky blandness. But hunting was scarce this week, and he’d already eaten his share- even enough to offer the lethargic god child some. He had rejected it, and this troubled the only remaining figment of concern in the stoic leopard. What it meant, if anything, was yet to surface. And so, Ed’garde found himself meandering as he usually did this time of day. It was a rather pleasant afternoon for a stroll- and something about the coming night seemed oddly familiar to the old brute. “Troubling.” He groaned slowly to himself in his peculiar, almost mechanical drawl. A cheetah on the rocks. He wasn’t sure if he remembered it first and then saw her, or if he saw her and then remembered. He supposed it didn’t matter- seeing things he dreamed was not an unusual event, in any case. What else had he dreamed that night?
“Not often do I see one of the runners out so late.” He said, slowly lumbering towards the rocky slope. Perhaps that is why he dreamed.

So enthralled was she with the deadening skyline that she jumped when the leopard spoke to her. Her silvery gaze wandered over the leopard with quiet curiosity and for a long time she was silent, a wind rustled her thin fur and she gave a slight shiver as the last kiss of the day faded over the horizon casting her silvery blue form in to shadow.
"It is easier for me to hunt at night" She spoke with a voice which seemed un- used, her words croaky, it almost sounded as if it pained her to say words though she didn't show any sign of hurt. Perhaps then her voice was simply unused to being vocal and such an act produced this throaty cough.
"It isn't often I see a leopard on the Savannah, don't you prefare the trees?" Again the voice whispered as she watched him, her voice box giving off an almost husky tone.

He was silent as she jumped- and it took him a few long moments to realize he might have startled her. He wasn't sure how to rationalize that; but he bowed his head in an effort to make at least a half hearted apology over the matter. Luckily, she was already speaking, so he excused himself from making a verbal one.
Her voice was strained- and the noise caused his ears to twitch. "No, I do not." He responded. On normal circumstances he would not have elaborated further- but, he decided his startling her warranted some reason. And he still hadn't realized why he'd dreamed about this.
"Fell out of the tree once, and broke my wrist. Hurts a bit to climb, but I don't care much for trees. It's a bit more exciting to eat on the ground and make your kills a matter of record, not of secrecy." He thrummed- the subject of hunting eliciting a pleased smile on the beast's face. "It's a challenge."

A leopard that was afraid to climb trees? It amused her, though only a tweak in her lips showed that she found it quite funny to hear that he preferred the land to the skies.
"I often wish I could climb a tree to get out of the way." She whispered coughing the roughness from her throat as she did so her voice slowly loosening up a little.
"To hunt is always a challenge and a skill, especially for those like us." She looked him over then, in that dying light she could see his fur colour was near to her own, a soft, dusky blue, he probably found it as difficult as she not to stand out during the day.
"It isn't often I hunt with a partner would you wish to hunt at my side this eve?" She licked her lips, she had the feeling that he would make a hunt far easier with his more powerful legs and stronger jaws, he could probably pull something much larger than she, on her own could.
A bargain could be had here and she found it easy to recognise.

There were few things that brought out a smile from the ridged leopard. In fact- as of yet, there were only three. And the greatest of these things, was hunting. He admired the words she used as she spoke of it; thrumming a rather pleasent note of respect in the bulky creature's chest.
"It certainly is," Ed'garde smiled. "I can think of few better things in life other then the hunt. Even more so when there are obstacles before us. I do not think I'd ever be quite the hunter I am had I not left the trees." He remarked smoothly. "I would be happy to help."
It didn't matter to him if she was just using the opportunity to get a deccent meal. Had she asked, perhaps, for him to help her for that purpose he might have been a bit off put- but! A hunt! Particularly with another, was always a serious and exciting event for the blue creature.
And the greater the challenge, the better. "What sort of food might the lady be after?" Ed thrummed. "I have been trailing a water buffalo for a few days now. Wounded him once- and he gave me quite a thrashing, but I cannot quite manage alone. I don't suppose it's the kind of thing cheetah's often trail but...if you could flush it, I am quite sure I can catch it." He preened.

Her silvery eyes caught the last twinkle of sunlight and as the sky turned inky black a star flickered in her gaze, though perhaps this star was simply an appreciative twinkle, she wasn't abut to give up the opportunity, a water buffalo could keep her going for many days without hunting again. Especially if she managed to hide some.
"yes, I believe I can help with that." She smiles her dry throat making her voice sound strained still though the huskyness of her first words had now faded.
"I believe we have an accord my friend." She tipped her silky slender head and took a step towards him her gait svelte and dainty, showing off her silky slender form.
"Zambarau." She breathes as she walks past him her cool grey gaze looking back at him to lead the way.

Ah! It was good fortune, the leopard mused in his mind. He'd been quite troubled about how to deal with this particular kill- it wasn't the first time he'd been after the buffalo, but as such beasts were, they were awfully unpredictable. This one for sure had proven to be a resilient foe. Until Faine was old enough to assist him... well, he'd have to do with what he could find. And sure enough, this female seemed more then enough assistance to handle the task.
"Ed'garde." He rumbled in his precarious, slightly accented monotone. Zambarau... it was a familiar name. He'd heard it before... but he dismissed it with a slight pass of his ear. She certainly had a coolness about her, and kept his violet eyes trained. The rough sound of her voice did not trouble him much; he rarely cared for soft things.
But, a task at hand! "We'll pick up his trail not far from here. He's got a limp, so it won't be too difficult, but he's hardly down for the count. A smart beast, I believe... we'll have to keep down-wind of him else gather his suspicion. He's on edge already with that leg of his."

The cheetahress smiled picking up that slow majestic gait that all cheetahs possessed once they hit their adulthood. She flickered her long slender tail and gave a gentle nod her gaze on the path in question though she occasionally took a swift, half glance backwards to the leopard to make sure he was still there and not thinking about attacking her.
She wasn't that worried, he seemed laid back and she could run far faster than any leopard if he tried anything suspicious she could be away in a heart beat.
Still she felt relaxed as they slipped through the shadows, the breath of the night rustling her soft fur, bringing with it the scent of that which they would be stalking. An injured buffalo. It would be a very good meal.
She licked her lips and paused for a moment as she looked to Ed, her silky silver eyes looking to him for instruction "Where do you want me." She whispers, her muscles tensing and relaxing, she was readying herself for the hunt.

The leopard lifted his head, scenting the wind. He was near- but not yet near enough to ask the female to thrush him out. "He must be a few lengths ahead." The creature rumbled. "I will not be able to outrun him, even with his injury. You must surprise him and thrush him towards me." Could he handle the bull head on? The last time the two had met, he'd been able to surprise the creature from the rear. The head...would be a different story.
But if Ed'garde was anything, it was confident. Surely, if he had dreamed meeting this female, it was an omen of his success. Today, he would catch his quarry. And that thought alone was enough to bring a steady tremor to his coiled muscles. "Be wary of him until he is down." He instructed. "and even then, he shall be dangerous."
Quietly, the leopard broke from their small group. "He must be wallowing in the dust up ahead. I shall circle him and give the signal."

Zamabarau stayed silent, her ears resting against her head as she listened to his instructions. She let a little quirk raise on her lips, he must think her young and foolish to think she didn't know a water buffalo was dangerous.
Boys would be boys. She stiffled ehr giggle and simply nodded slipping forwards through the lengthy grasses, her silvery eyes resting upon the beast they would bring down.
Her tail stayed still her body tence, the muscles drawn and tight as springs under her fur.
She was ready to go, her shoulders levelling ready to strike out from her possition in the scrub and drive the creature forward to it's death.

Ed’garde slipped into the shadows, completely oblivious to the fact that Zamabarau had totally called him on his latent chauvinism. Although he might have thought he was the greatest hunter in all the land- the fact that the female was willing to aide him rather valiantly was enough to earn quite a bit of respect in the strange creature. So while he might have warned erroneously- he truly did not believe they would fail.
Up ahead, the bull was thrusting his parched horns into the dust. The injury Ed had inflicted to his back leg had become infected overnight, and he was on edge for danger. A few hyenas had been about earlier- but luckily, the daylight had been on his side. Now that the world had fallen to darkness, the old bull was watching the horizon nervously, and swatting frequently at the flies that moved towards the wound.
It was a slow process to get around the beast unseen. He needed to be in place for when Zamabarau drove him out- and maneuvering it was tricky. Luckily the dusty earth made for silent paws, and the grasses surrounding them gave little sound as he moved.
Finally, he was in place. Confident enough of where they stood- he quietly gave off a low growl to signal the other.

Her ears were primed and ready for the slightest sound and when it came she bolted from the brush without a moments hesitation, her dark form dashed from the undergrowth a dusty blue and purple bolt of lightning. She gave a call, a sort of half growl spit as she launched for the beast hoping to scare him in to movement with her surprise attack.
She knew her claws would only be torn out if she tried to capture the beast herself, she was no fool but she could certainly flush him straight in to the waiting paws of her companion.
She snapped at his back leg to get him moving her silvery eyes flashing in the darkness of the night. They would be successful,s he just knew it and her belly would be full for many days. This was certainly turning out to be a very prosperous evening.

The bull bolted, his muscled flanks suddenly rippling against the old injuries as he wheeled from the cat propelling towards him. Instinct did not allow him to see the attack clearly- alone, she was hardly a threat to him. But her sheer speed, and the determination in her eyes spurned him enough to enter a frenzy. He kicked at the mud and ran in the opposite direction of the cat- which, by careful planning on her part, was right in the pathway of the crouched leopard.
But as with any hunt, things rarely went according to plan. He tore into the underbrush, and as he did so Ed sprung. But with his hooves sinking into the mud, the ox sunk just low enough to get some leverage on the pouncing beast. As Ed'garde slammed into the great creature's side and his claws sunk in, the buffalo swung his head to the left.
What resulted was something akin to a catapult. But thanks to Ed'garde's deepset claws, the bull was unable to fling him off. The weight the leopard on top of him and the motion of the jerk was all the ox needed to slip, and both leopard and buffalo fell flat into the mud.

Not fool enough to pounce the bull while he was bucking the cheetahress waited circling until he slipped, then without a moments hesitation she pounced and found a good grip, not that it seemed her help was needed, ed'guard had a good handle on the situation.
Slight though she was she still had the weight of a full grown and healthy cheetah on her side and her claws and fangs bolted down on the beast to keep him routed to the ground while the leopard did his job.
Her silver eyed gaze flitted to the big male and she smiled around a mouth full of fur which she had clenched in her slight jaw, this was certainly turning out to be a prosperous evening.
