Welcome to the Tamil General Discussion! This is where we discuss everything related to the Tamil language, including, but not limited to:
-asking specific questions about Tamil vocabulary and grammar (people who can speak Tamil fluently can help answer others' questions) -recommendations for Tamil dictionaries, websites, etc -and everything else about the beautiful language of India!
Please note that although speaking in Tamil is allowed here, it is not mandatory.
Let's start off with a few facts about the Tamil language:
Spoken in: India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, and Réunion
Total number of speakers: 77 million
Language Family: Dravidian
Regulated by: Various academies and the Government of Tamil Nadu

I just picked up this language. biggrin
The script is awesome, but I'm having trouble pronouncing the ṇ, ṉ, ḷ, ṟ, ṛ, ksh, and ṭ. D;

I love that script. That's actually one reason I'm learning most Asian languages and Russian. Is because of their scripts. whee

The Tamil language consists of awesome and winatlife.
Also, script-lovers should investigate Mongolian.

biggrin Yes, very much so.
3nodding Mongolian is beautiful, too! I have a CD with traditional Mongolian music on it and the titles of the songs are written in the script and in the romanization.
