My section leader in the marching band has told me that i will most likely be able to play snare drum next season. is there anything i should be doing to get ready? any tips for next year?

Practice your rudiments!!! Also, work on 8 on a hand until you get it up to a good tempo (200 bpm is pretty good). Don't be discouraged if you can't play everything you're given all at once, marching snare is really a continuous development process. Also, make CERTAIN you have good snare technique, it is imperative for good playing and also to make sure you don't get tendonitis, which is devastating in a drum line season.
