I finally get to play this in language I'm way more comfortable with.
I own the actual game so I'm gonna try to patch the actual cart but for now playing it on my PSP.

I dunno, I've played for an hour and a half and it's seems really stock right now. There's bits of Earthbound humor in it but it takes itself too seriously. (Spoiler) When Lucas' mom dies I guess I'm supposed to be sympathetic, but I don't particularly feel anything for little cartoon people on a GBA screen. It just doesn't seem as whimsical as Earthbound, but maybe that's because I haven't played far yet.
