Oh my god Cherry i officially hate you! *runs of to cry*

I wanna go to japaaaa~N!!!! why are ya going, can i come? can i hide in your suitcase????? crying crying crying crying

i almost got to go before my parents said that it was too much money that i needed to save up for UNI!

crying
no fair.....

*sniffle*

table ettiquette says you should never pour the sauce onto your rice or dip your rice into the sauces. after you dip your whatever into the sauce you dab it onto the rice so it takes the flavour. *nod*

the trouble with japanese is that they're so polite, if you do something wrong they won't tell you....

Don't forget to take the toilet slippers off before leaving the toilet!

don't walk away from the table with food! it's super rude!

alot of roads don't have road signs so you need to be pretty good at remembering your way......

when eating noodles, drinking soup and drinking tea, make as much slurping noises as possible. it let's the chef/hostes know that it's really yummy. if you're too quiet they'll think you're not enjoying your meal.

found a cool general etiquette site: et Voila

I actually heard that you only make the slurping noises with noodles...but yeah, remember to take your toilet slippers off after leaving the toilet...

it depends if you're staying a western hotel or not. The western hotels are pretty much the same over here, great service though.

I also think they don't expect tips!

I just went to Japan this summer, and I'm going again in February.

Since you're going as an exchange student, your experience will be different than mine.... But I'll try to help as much as I can~

Don't be shy when trying out Japanese. The Japanese are very patient, especially if they're your host family. The more you try to piece out words the better. =3

Um... I'm not sure if this is just my mistake or what... But in Japan you place money in a tray when paying for things. But not knowing that, I'd just attempt to give the cashier the money directly, and they'd take it and place in the tray. So to save yourself embarrassment, just go straight for the tray. xD

The roads in Japan are very skinny and sometimes you don't even know you're on a street. But driver's licenses cost a lot of money, so there aren't many people with cars anyway.

And a warning... Once you give off a "foreigner vibe", you'll have countless people come up to you offering to help. x3 The best way to get rid of them? "Eigo wo hanasemasen. Supeingo ga hanasemasuka?"

Claim to speak only Spanish. ;D

Edit:

The plug shapes are the same as American plugs. I'm not sure where you are, though...

Aww.. well... if you live on your own then your parents can't do anything about it. And I don't see what's wrong with putting a little away whenever you can. That way you can say that you already have the money so it won't be a big deal. and if they're still not happy about it, well, if you're in Japan what can they really do about it? You could always say you're going on vacation (which would explain why you're away) and then just lie about where you're going... find pictures online of that place and when they ask for pictures you have them (just make sure there aren't watermarks on it )

Why don't you just not buy a car? I'm not going to have one once I get older, since I don't really want to drive for long distances (I love planes!) and I plan on living in an urban place.
