The rising sun beat down on the earth warming it and all it's inhabitants. One such creature a young mare with bright red flowers in her mane and tail. A mare who was thrashing about somewhat violently in sleep. The warmth from the sun was ordinarily her friend but right now it spurned on what seemed to be a reoccurring nightmare.

Her bright eyes opened and she lifted her head with a start half expecting to find the land where she lay to be on fire. She let out a relieved sigh to find that it wasn't and lowered her head once again. She took a few moments for herself simply staring out at the sideways world. Once she remembered where exactly she was she rolled over and got to her feet. "Perhaps I should rest in shade from this point on..." She murmured to herself giving her mane a toss.

There were plenty of trees around, she was on the outskirts of what seemed to be a rather large forest after all. "Yes...perhaps I will do just that..." She said once again, to herself. She had taken to doing this quite often lately as she rarely had company.

Fluttering between various fall flowers, a petite mare wandered aimlessly as she took in the fragrance that each flower had to offer. Soquili really didn't appreciate these beauties as much as they deserved. Allariana's eyes drifted across the landscape searching for any living being that she could talk to. Then again, she could talk to rocks and puddles just fine.

A bright pink figure in the distance caught her eye. Was that a flower? Allariana's eyes observe the other mare carefully and begins to wander over to Lycoris without even really analyzing the situation. She never really thought before acting and it realy put her in trouble sometimes. Allariana smiled in greeting to the other soquili. "Hello there!" Her lyrical voice rang out so clearly .

Looking at Lycoris curiously, Allariana noticed the flowers in her mane and tail and noticeably stared at them. They were so pretty! She had never seen flowers quite like those before and the flutter was clearly entranced by Lycoris's beauty, she wasn't sure what to say next.

Her ears perked as a rather cheerful voice sounded out. A little bit confused she turned about slowly to locate the source. She found it and nearly fell over from the shock of it all.

A small horse that wore the wings of a butterfly was speaking to her. She was only able to blink for several moments trying to comprehend exactly what she was seeing. Surely this was a trick of her imagination. She thought on this for a moment and it drew her quickly back to her first real meeting. No. She couldn't chalk this up to the rather fragile state of her mind at the moment. She would assume that this was real unless proven otherwise. She did not want to make awkward moments for others.

"Good day." She responded finally after several moments of silence. She kept her voice pleasant despite the rough quality to it from her just waking up. She was unable to keep herself from staring at the little winged one still.

Raising a brow, Allariana looked up at the clearly taller mare. Why did she fall? She couldn't help but frown to herself because she didn't like causing others discomfort. Looking up at Lycoris with big curious eyes, Allariana smiled sheepishly. "Good day to you too! I couldn't help but notice the beautiful flowers in your hair. What kind are they?" She stared at them feeling so in awe; she clearly had a thing for flowers.

Allariana hoped that she wasn't bothering this mare but she just couldn't help but ask. She seemed nice enough and even though she seemed rather naive, Allariana had an uncanny ability to read others well. She may seemed young but she definitely was beyond her years at this point. "Oh, and I don't mean to see rude. My name's Allariana." Allariana didn't care if Lycoris told her her name or not because not all soquili wanted to just give their names to strangers. She knew she should be more careful about that but her personality just didn't let her be.

She smiled slightly hearing her flowers called beautiful. Did this mare share her love for them? Her smile faltered as she asked what kind. "They are lycoris...spider lilies." She loved these flowers but also at the same time blamed them for the ill fate that seemed to follow her. She would not discard them, however, she was worried that if she did things would only become worse. "I have heard they are also rather poisonous, I would not touch them if I were you."

She imagined that if they truly were poisonous that she must have some form of immunity to them by now. She had been born in them and spent much of her time around them before she had left.

"Oh, you do not seem rude at all." She answered glad to be able to keep her mind away from that particular train of thought. "I share their name. Lycoris." She smiled and gave a polite bow of her head. "It is a pleasure to meet you Allariana."

Allariana continued to stare in awe at them. "They're really beautiful but they only accentuate the beauty you already have." She was a firm believer that everybody had a radiating beauty within them, they just had to discover it and everybody was equally beautiful. "Oh? Poisonous? Even better." She had only seen a few poisonous flowers; they were rare delicacies. "Do they mean something to you? Did somebody give them to you?" Flowers were so delicate yet had such a powerful meaning to those who cared for them.

"Oh. Such a beautiful name." She beamed a happy smile at Lycoris. "The pleasure's all mine. I'm quite lucky to have run into you." She was always happy to meet new people and it really just brought a lot of happiness into her life. Her children were all grown up so she had to entertain herself somehow. Some mares experience loneliness after their children leave but Allariana would never let herself be like that.

She frowned as she was called 'beautiful'. It was not something she wished to be called. Not any longer. Lycoris would make no comment on it, though, she was certain it would kill the conversation quite quickly. "Better? You like poison?" She tilted her head to the side with a quizzical smirk on her face. What a strange little creature she seemed to be. "And...they are a tie." She had no intention of revealing more about the importance of the spindly blooms.

Her confusion grew more as the mare brought luck up. She could not imagine how anyone would really be fortunate to meet her. Unless of course this little winged mare was not as she seemed.

Lycoris took a step backwards a cautious look in her eye. The whispers of dark creatures not being as they seemed. Was she one of these creatures? Was she dangerous? Was she perhaps about to be this little mare's meal? She hoped not. "Lucky in what way...?" She asked a bit suspiciously.

Tilting her head curiously, Allariana felt a slight shift in mood but it moved back to where it was so she took no notice to it. "Well, it makes it more unique so that is even better." Grinning slightly, Allariana knew she was prying a little but she found that it always made for more interesting conversation. Flowers told a lot about a person and she could tell that Lycoris had many secrets of her own but of course, it was none of her business.

She hadn't even thought that she might have seemed a little threatening by what she said. She watched the mare quietly as Lycoris stepped back. Had she said something wrong? "Oh, I just like meeting new people. It lets me broaden my horizons and allows me to understand things more easily." This little flutter really couldn't even hurt a fly.

"I hope you don't think I'm implying something I'm not." Looking at her, Allariana shifted to a more serious expression. She really wasn't like this at all but she didn't like it when others thought wrongly of her. This world was so dangerous sometimes... she was lucky that she had someone to take care of her.

Lycoris studied the butterfly like creature for a little longer after her answer. She could not be entirely sure that she was telling the truth. It did not sound as though she were telling a lie, though, so she relaxed. "I see." She said a small bashful smile on her face. "I'm afraid that I'm a bit new around here...and I've never seen one like yourself." Her eyes drifted down to the ground.

She felt rather ashamed admitting this. It was not something she was proud of coming here with no knowledge of anything. Where she had come from she had been the strangest looking creature. Out here she had seen ones with wings like birds and now one with wings like an insect. The outside world held so many secrets that she had never been informed of. It seemed so cruel to leave her in the dark in such a way.

The thoughts of her old home were leading her down a trail that she new she would quickly regret. To keep herself away she shook her head and looked up at her current company. "I'm afraid I may have thought you were one of the cruel deceptive ones I've heard snatches about." She imagined that the little mare could do without this knowledge but she didn't know what else to say.

Her serious expression quickly dissolved into a soft smile. Allariana giggled musically and she hated being serious sometimes. "New? Oh, I hope that you're liking what you see. This area is generally pretty nice especially the flowers and butterflies. I've been around for... quite awhile now so if you're curious about anything, maybe I can help you." Smiling again, Allariana had been around for a long time. Her physical appearance was definitely deceptive.

"I've lived here since before I could even remember. There are some... not so nice soquili here but everybody's generally friendly." Nodding slightly, Allariana had quite a few run ins with some of those not so nice soquili. But she got out of those troubles thankfully.

"It's best to be cautious but not too much!" She knew things were dangerous out here and she worried for her family constantly but she knew that they were smart.

She was silent for a while taking in everything Allariana had to say. She did have to agree it was quite pretty here. There were beautiful colors around every turn, very different from the almost constant green from where she had come. Bright blues of streams and the sea and just as the mare said many flowers. She bit her lip gently studying the mare.

If she had been around for so long it was possible that she could answer a question or two. What would be right to ask though? There were many things she wished to know but many of those things were about her and her wings. She imagined that would sound quite rude to ask. Yes, it would be rude.

The other questions she had, however, should be safe. They weren't about her at all and didn't seem to be prying into anything she shouldn't know. Those would be okay.

"The creatures I should be cautious of..." She started looking for signs from the other, signs saying that she shouldn't be asking what she was. "What are they and what do they look like?" It seemed like an appropriate question but this was a strange place to her. Not too far from her home, perhaps, but strange all the same.

Allariana had learned to appreciate all of the natural landmarks in the area. She had wandered around for a long time especially when her mate, Spectre, had disappeared for awhile. She went everywhere except the deepest parts of the forest. She loved traveling but she was glad that she was able to settle down again.

Oh. She wanted to hear about the not-so-nice creatures of the world. She didn't mind talking about them because at least Allariana could help Lycoris become more aware. "Well, there are a few of them. Skinwalkers and kalona are what we call them. There are some other soquili that are similar to them but they have traits of other soquili too." She paused and gathered up her thoughts. "What would you like to hear about first?"

She knew quite a few of kalona but she didn't know any skinwalkers. Kalona were... interesting. Well, at least the ones that she knew. They were twisted creatures but in their own different way.

There were only two types then? That was quite a relief for her but still worried her. She had been expecting more then two but she had been hoping to learn of only one perhaps. They were called kalona and skinwalkers then. She made a note in her mind to avoid anything to do with creatures carrying those names.

"I would like to say the more deadly of the two...but perhaps the more common ones would be better to know of first." She nodded in confirmation. Yes. She was more likely to remember whatever she was told first the best so she would like that information to be on the species she was more likely to encounter. Then she would know how to get away or avoid them entirely. It would be quite useful.

"Which of the two would that be?"

Smiling, Allariana really didn't mind talking about this even though it was a little depressing. It was important that other soquili knew what they're up against. When she was younger, she had gotten into enough trouble with kalonas and thankfully, she didn't get mauled. Her personality just did not mesh with the darker species.

"Kalona are probably the most common. They have a distinct horned tail that sometimes has spikes. They can also have a regular hair tail. They have two horns that usually curve, some are longer then others. And they also have really distinct and sharper teeth then normal soquili. They also have large wings that are almost bat-like. They're rather menacing if you're around long enough to get a good look at them." Some kalona weren't that bad. Some just had twisted minds and had different outlooks. Others lusted blood and were violent. In general, definitely not as nice as they could be.

The most common, kalona. Notable features, two horns, spiked tail, sharp teeth, and bat like wings. She committed this information to her memory and allowed a mental picture to paint itself. It was a terrifying image but she didn't will it away immediately. It was important to have some idea what she would be potentially seeing even if it was just an imaginary picture. After a short time she nodded and stored the picture away with the rest of the information.

"And the other kind, the skinwalkers. What do they look like?" Her voice was calm but her eyes seemed a bit worried. If those were the more common she didn't really want to hear much about the other kind. Somehow she got the feeling that they were the more dangerous of the two and from the picture in her mind she wasn't sure how that was possible.

"Also...if it's no trouble...how would you escape or better yet avoid these kinds?" She did not know if this information would be something the little mare would know but it was worth a shot. Especially if she knew of areas where the creatures frequented, those would be the places she would avoid.
