Welcome to the poetry contest!

We will have two categories: Samhain and Beltane. You may enter both if you'd like.

The Rules
- Your poetry has to be your own work with no help from anyone else.
- Your entry has to be themed around whichever category you're entering.
- You may enter one entry in both categories (so no more than two entries from a single person).
- You must be a member of the guild at the time you submit your entry.
- Don't copy other people's ideas.

The Prizes
- First place: first place winner in each category will get a secret prize and 1,000 gaia gold.
- Second place: second place winner in each category will get 500 gaia gold.
- Anyone who doesn't place will get 100 gaia gold.

Have fun; and good luck!

Ghost Dance
By: Nano_Rem

The veil before our eyes,
Placed there as we age,
On this night is lifted.

Shades of past dance,
Clouding our poor vision,
Making the living cry.

During this fading glimpe,
Of those we have lost,
We forget to mourn.

Take thier ghostly hand,
Twirl around the fire light,
Until they bid us good-bye.

Thier time has come to pass,
Life do we still have to live,
Until we finally meet again.

Samhain Sonnet
By: MeatEatingOrchid

At this dusk I transcend the murky veil of night,
The nearness of unknowing makes me calm
Soft petals of the darkest rose take flight;
Fall from the stem and wither in my palm.
I cast them into the pot as it alights,
The flames transform the petals into smoke.
I say my incantation with delight,
And words roll from my tongue to stroke
The magick in my heart and bring it forth
To tell the passed ones my loving intent.
I wish for my beloved to, thenceforth,
To bless my own beloved line of descent.
I do this with free will and good only to gain
So merry meet, merry part, merry meet again!

This is for the Samhain category.

Ghost Dance

Clouding our poor vision,
Making the living cry.

During this fading glimpe,
Of those we have lost,

Thier time has come to pass,
Life do we still have to live,
Until we finally meet again.

"Wandering around at midnight, ickle Firsties...

A sonnet I have composed for the Samhain category:

At this dusk I transcend the murky the veil of night,
The nearness of unknowing makes me calm
Soft petals of the darkest rose take flight;
So merry meet, merry part, merry meet again!

...Tut, tut, tut. Naughty, naughty, you'll get caughty."User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Erm, is there any way I can fix that poem?

I wrote:
At this dusk I transcend the murky the veil of night,

I meant to write:
At this dusk I transcend the murky veil of night,

If not, oh well. We'll see what happens biggrin

The voting is now up! smile

No one entered the Beltane category, so we'll only be voting on the Samhain category winners. You'll be voting for one of the following: Samhain Sonnet by MeatEatingOrchid
Ghost Dance by Nano_Rem

The voting will remain open for 4 days.

Good luck!
