Normally, it would be a pleasant day outside. Unfortunately, the glittery purple cattaur hadn't had much to eat in what was the past few days, given she didn't so much as have any parents to go home to. Instead, she relied on sneaking around and stealing food from others, or depending on the kindness of certain individuals. Currently, she was pawing at a tree, mewling pitifully at the base of an apple tree.

Though, actually, she hadn't expected anyone to come to her aid, there was soon a quiet motion behind her, making her stiffen, and then a few apples toppled down from a low branch of the tree. She gasped happily and didn't question how they'd appeared, and instead began feasting on her new fruits. Her tail swished happily, but she didn't look up until she had finished one of the delicious fruits down to it's core. When she finally did, however, she backed up, staring at the figure with wide eyes, tail swishing cautiously, low to the ground.

It wasn't as though he really meant any harm. He'd seen the little cat-girl and pulled down some apples for her, having learned to take care of his youngers from his foster parents, who'd taken care of him when he was a child. When the little cattaur blinked up at him with such fear-filled eyes, however, he was forced to slither backward a touch, putting both hands in sight as though that would comfort the poor girl. "I'm, um, thorry. I wath jutht... getting you thome... appleth," he said quietly, gesturing up to the apple tree, trying to make himself understood when most adults didn't even know what he was saying.

The little cervi girl had been wandering for about a day and a half now. She had woken up one morning and that big female who'd always been there was gone. Not even the big male was there. After waiting an entire day, she stood on shaky legs and toddled off to find anyone around.
And finally, there! She heard someone! She ran as fast as her little legs would carry her. She found the strange male quickly. The fact that he had a long tail and no hooves didn't matter. He was big, and the big ones usually meant food. She simply ran up to him, babbling happily in her baby talk.

Luke was wandering through the woods now, trying to figure out what he was supposed to do. He looked down at the wriggly bundle in his arms and sighed. He had just been trying to take a lazy stroll when this purple baby cervitaur wobbled into his path, reaching for him with desperate hands. He couldn't just leave her alone there, so after waiting what seemed like hours, during which the entire time she nibbled on the surrounding plantlife, he picked up the baby girl and started on home. What was he going to do with her?!

It took a good half hour, Syem talking the entire time, before he convinced the little cattaur that he was one of the good guys, and wasn't about to eat her. Well... more that she couldn't have taken him seriously, all thanks to the way he spoke, so even if he was going to eat her, it would have been easy with her childish giggling. At least she trusted him now, at least to a certain extent. He could never be quite sure; he didn't know how old she was, or if she'd ever been taken care of by anyone before him. So she could easily be either dependent, independent, or something in between the two. He had no way of knowing; he'd just have to learn for himself.

Jaione giggled happily as she followed behind the naga, pouncing at the tip of his tail and leaving slight scratches in the regularly smooth and shiny scales, making him tap her on the head with the very same tail tip. However, what was supposed to be a reprimand came off more as a joke, and had the little cattaur giggling even more. She didn't mind this 'taur too much, but she wasn't sure that she was going to stay around him all that long; after all, she'd run off from everyone else she'd met before now.

In the moment that she'd stopped laughing, she heard a rustle to her left, and started a bit, before sniffing at the air. It wasn't a recognizable scent, but it wasn't one of the land, either. She jumped up and away from Syem's tail and bounded through the bushes, quite quickly, actually, only to directly collide with the grey legs of another cattaur. She dropped back down onto here bottom and sniffled a bit, wiping at her eyes because of the pain from the collision, before she burst into tears.

Now, Syem's hearing was far from the best of his senses, but it was good enough to tell when the little taur had stopped following him, and it told him right where she was when the little girl started crying. Looking at the bushes for a moment, she slowly slunk through, pulling himself up to his proper height on the other side, and blinking curiously at the other two four-leggers who were there. It was a moment before he realized that his ward was on the ground in front of him, at which point he ducked down to pick her up, petting her head and comforting her as best he knew how. He glanced back up at the other cattaur. "Uhm... hi?"

Luke was trying to tell the baby cervi that chewing on his fingers wasn't nice when he felt something hit his leg. He jumped with a start and stared down in shock at the little cattaur at his paws. "What is this! All strays to Luke day?!" He complained to himself, until the purple cattaur started crying.
He looked around uncomfortably for a second until a young naga he'd seen around but never actually met came from the bushes and tried comforting the girl. "Um.. is she yours?" He asked warily, pointing at Jaione.

Curled up in Luke's arms, the cervi girl twisted around to see what was making so much racket. Her eyes first fell upon the naga and she cringed away. Her parents had at least taught her about the things that were dangerous before leaving her, and nagas were one of them. Then she saw the young cattaur crying. With a small frown, she waved at the air with her small hands, cooing softly in her babble to the crying taur, like she was trying to comfort her.

The small cattaur sniffled, and looked up with watery eyes first at the naga, and then at the other cattaur, and the small cervi in his arms. The little one was reaching toward her, and she reached back, barely reaching the other girl's fingers. She squeaked and mumbles a bit, words that weren't really words, turning herself over to stretch out as far as she could to press the palm of her hand against the palm of the other little girl's, making her giggle at something only a child could find amusing, rubbing her eyes with the unused hand once again.

"Well... uhm... thort of," Syem replied, not really knowing what he was to the little girl at this point. He looked down at the small creature, who was now babbling in the same kind of baby talk at the other girl, grasping her hand happily and waving both their hands back and forth. "I only found her thith morning, tho I don't really know what I'd call mythelf to her. I got her thome appleth..." he mumbled this last part, finally realizing that he'd been rambling. He gestured toward the cervitaur. "What about her? Ith she your'th?"

After taking a moment to decipher what the naga was saying, Luke nodded in understanding. "No. Definitly not mine. I seem to be in the same situation as you." He looked down at the carvi girl. "I was just walking when she ran over and started clinging." He shook his head. "I was just trying to figure out what to do with her."

The baby cervi squeaked happily when the little cattaur responded to her, flashing a big smile. She turned and gave Luke a poke. He set her down, and she reached to grasp the purple cattaur's other hand to swing it along with the other hand and started babble singing. No real words, but there was a tune to it. Her short tail, though it couldn't wag, did start twitching happily.

Jaione bounced impatiently in the naga's arms, until he got the idea to put her down along with the cervi, where she giggled happily -as she does- and slung her hands along with the other girl. Maybe she could go with the cattaur? He had a little girl who was like her, and that was more than she could say about both Syem and all the other big taur that she'd seen before him. She swayed her tail with the tune and hummed a bit, closing her eyes and swaying with the little girlie.

"Well... I gueth you could alwayth keep her, couldn't you?" he questioned, looking down at the girl he'd found. "But of courthe, I learned that from my fothter parentth, tho... well, I mean, if you didn't want to or-or couldn't or thomething, I could alwayth take care of her for you...?" he suggested, though looked a bit sheepish about it; chances were the other would either keep her or try to find her parents. No less, the girl was probably dead-scared of him, just like all the other four-leggers seemed to be...

Luke watched the two girls play. Kids were so odd..
He looked up with wide eyes. "Me? Keep her? I wouldn't know what to do with her!" Something, deep inside, did want to keep her, but he was a man's man. He wasn't sure about raising her by himself. "I'll just try to find her parents or something. They'd want her back, wouldn't they?" He thought back to his own origins and watched the girls again, but sadder.

The baby cervi smiled up at Syem for putting Jai down, but remembering he was a naga made the smile vanish into big eyes that quickly refocused on the playmate in front of her. Giggling, she 'sang' a little more.

The tip of Syem's tail twitched slightly at the sudden exclamation and he shrugged a bit. "Well... I'm not sure. They might, but there are a lot of other thingth to take into conthiderathion. Do you know where you would take her?" he questioned, looking down at the girls as well. His gaze, as well as Luke's, was a bit sad. Even though the cattaur had gotten a bit used to him, he was sure she wouldn't ever be all that comfortable around him, and if she was, it wouldn't be until she'd completely grown up. That is, if she grew up around Syem, himself. Which was possible. Maybe he could have kids of his own. Of course, that could be difficult with the ideals of so many of the other naga in the world...

Jaione bounced a bit, and sung nonsense words under her breath along with the other girl, swishing her tail low and slowly in time with the tune. She hadn't ever met another girl or boy anywhere near her age before. It was fun~

Luke frowned. No, he had no idea where he'd look. He sat back on his haunches and stretched out his arms, trying to look relaxed. "I guess you got a point there- er, whatever your name is."

Happily swaying to their tune, the cervi girl suddenly laughed happily and reached forward to scoop her new friend into a hug. This was her first time meeting someone her own age, and she seemed rather happy about it. It helped that the girl she was currently clinging to was so much fun.

Jaione gasped softly and stiffened at the initial contact. Though she was still a child, she'd learned to be very on-guard. All the time. So, contact such as a hug -when she wasn't upset- was an odd thing. She took a deep breath to calm down, and smiled once more, hugging the cervitaur and giggling in her happy little way. She'd need to get used to being close to other 'taur if she was going to survive in such a world.

Following the 'trying to look relaxed' motif, Syem curled himself up in gentler coils, before leaning his torso against the decently heighted column made from his own body. He blinked, before laughing weakly at the fact that he'd completely forgotten to introduce himself. He stuck out one of his long fingered hands - a handshake, though his hands weren't the most appealing for such a formality. "My deepetht apologieth. My name ith Th- Th- Ssssyem," he said, needing to force the first letter of his name out from the lisp, lest he be known as 'Thyem' for the rest of his life. "And yourthelf?"

Luke tilted his head and stared at the hand extended toward him. Then he smiled and shook it, thoroughly pleased that the naga he was currently with one of the rarer friendly ones. "Allright Syem. I'm Luke." He looked down at the two little girls. "Does she have a name? As far as I know, the one I found doesn't."

Feeling the other stiffen, the cervi girl simply kept her hold, resisting the urge to cling more. Her parents had gotten mad when she tried to cling... She didn't want to scare her new friend away too. She giggled when Jaione did and started them swaying gently again.

This time it was Jaione's turn to start humming something happily, letting her eyes fall shut as she swayed as well, dancing with the other girl. However, her curiosity soon got the better of her, and she opened her eyes once more, and looked up toward the larger 'taur who'd been speaking to one another. One of them was the one who'd gotten her some apples, and the other was the one she'd run into. She chose to inspect the latter, and gazed upward at the large grey-and-blue 'taur, before she heard what he was asking. Hugging her new friend once more, she trotted over to the big cattaur and poked at his foot. Pointing to herself, she sounded out her name.

"Jjjai-oh-ney."

Syem was about to comment, before he stared down at the little girl's statement with a mixture of awe and confusion. "Well, I was going to say that I wasn't sure, but given I guess I would tell you her name is Jaione," he replied, laughing softly, though secretly a bit envious that the little cattaur was more willing to talk to Luke than to himself.

Luke smiled down at the girl by his feet. "Jaione. That's a lovely name." He said, patting her head gently. He looked back at Syem. "At least she can understand us somewhat. I'm not sure if the cervi does or not. She babbles mostly, and just giggles and tries to eat my fingers when I try talking to her."

The little cervi was happy clinging to the cattaur, but the other had moved eventually. She sat where she was, wondering what was going on. "Goo bah, Joooney." She said softly after hearing her friend's name, then stuck her thumb in her mouth and went silent again, eyes on the others in front of her.

"Tan-koo~" Jaione cooed happily, before her little ears twitched at the other girl's voice from behind her. She reared herself up, before plopping her front paws back down on the ground and making the short journey back to her friend. She smiled brightly and stretched out her arm, patting the top of her head before taking hold of her hand and pulling her toward the other two 'taur. First, she pointed up toward the naga boy and stated, "Tee-yum." After at least trying to say his name, she pointed toward the cattaur and looked questioningly at her friend, silently asking what his name was in exchange for telling the cervi Syem's name.

Syem blinked in confusion at the little cattaur, who'd just barely spoken for the first time since she'd been around him, and it was to Luke. As the cattaur spoke, the teen shifted his gaze, instead, toward the cervitaur, sitting with her thumb in her mouth. He smiled faintly and diverted his attention back to his new... acquaintance? "Well, you can't be too sure that she doethn't underthtand jutht yet. After all, Jai only ever giggled and batted at me, and yet she theemth to underthtand pretty well. Err... now she doeth."
