This is a shout out to all those who are musically inclined! We're all our own personal DJs, so lets mix things up a bit and introduce our fellow Guildmates to the musical talent we find shining through the riff-raff.

Whether you love tunes that pluck the heart-strings, scream about angst, or sound like a group of yowling cats, there's a place here for each and every one.

I have to admit some of my favorite artists are locals whose only cds are ones they have produce themselves. Unfortunately, this makes it hard for others to find them. Thanks to MySpace and Facebook some of these guys are getting their names out there. So now that I have rambled my list of favorite little knowns: Alexis Cone, Dan Hillebrant/Greybeard, Something Stirring, Greg Mladenka,Paperboys and Clumsy Lovers, just to name a few.

The market can destroy creativity.

As for my music I'm a big fan of the 70s and 80s mostly the the love songs
PostPosted: Thu Oct 16, 2008 8:23 am

Stray from the street of New Jersey the only Rap song of the 80s that didn't tell that pimping was cool or beating up women was the right thing instead it said how the nature of the "bad rap" can destroy the young community. So I leave here with;

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 - The Message

Broken glass everywhere
People pissing on the stairs, you know they just
Don't care
I cant take the smell, I cant take the noise
Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back
Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat
I tried to get away, but I couldn't get far
Cause the man with the tow-truck repossessed my car
Chorus:
Don't push me, cause I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to loose my head
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from going under

Standing on the front stoop, hangin out the window
Watching all the cars go by, roaring as the breezes
Blow
Crazy lady, livin in a bag
Eating out of garbage piles, used to be a f**-hag
Search and test a tango, skips the life and then go
To search a prince to see the last of senses
Down at the peepshow, watching all the creeps
So she can tell the stories to the girls back home
She went to the city and got so so so ditty
She had to get a pimp, she couldnt make it on her
Own

Chorus:
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from goin under

My brothers doing fast on my mothers t.v.
Says she watches to much, is just not healthy
All my children in the daytime, dallas at night
Cant even see the game or the sugar ray fight
Bill collectors they ring my phone
And scare my wife when I'm not home
Got a bum education, double-digit inflation
Cant take the train to the job, theres a strike
At the station
Me on king kong standin on my back
Cant stop to turn around, broke my sacroiliac
Midrange, migraine, cancered membrane
Sometimes I think I'm going insane, I swear I might
Hijack a plane!

Chorus:

My son said daddy I don't wanna go to school
Cause the teachers a jerk, he must think I'm a
Fool
And all the kids smoke reefer, I think it'd be
Cheaper
If I just got a job, learned to be a street sweeper
I dance to the beat, shuffle my feet
Wear a shirt and tie and run with the creeps
Cause its all about money, ain't a damn thing
Funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and
Honey
They push that girl in front of a train
Took her to a doctor, sowed the arm on again
Stabbed that man, right in his heart
Gave him a transplant before a brand new start
I cant walk through the park, cause its crazy
After the dark
Keep my hand on the gun, cause they got me on the
Run
I feel like an outlaw, broke my last fast jaw
Hear them say you want some more, livin on a
Seesaw

Chorus:

A child was born, with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smiling on you but hes frowning too
Cause only God knows what you go through
You grow in the ghetto, living second rate
And your eyes will sing a song of deep hate
The places you play and where you stay
Looks like one great big alley way
You'll admire all the number book takers
Thugs, pimps, pushers and the big money makers
Driving big cars, spending twenties and tens
And you wanna grow up to be just like them
Smugglers, scrambles, burglars, gamblers
Pickpockets, peddlers and even pan-handlers
You say I'm cool, I'm no fool
But then you wind up dropping out of high school
Now you're unemployed, all null n void
Walking around like you're pretty boy Floyd
Turned stickup kid, look what you done did
Got send up for a eight year bid
Now your man is took and you're a may tag
Spend the next two years as an undercover f**
Being used and abused, and served like hell
Till one day you was find hung dead in a cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young

Wow, I am always amazed that no matter how much things change a lot remains the same. I have to say this makes feel kinda hopeless xp

well it can but we always suppose to look forward to a brighter future.

Now going to a different ganra this one being j-pop in Spanish culture, this song being called the "Color of Hope" by Diego Torres

I know what's in your eyes just by looking at you,
that you are tired of going and going
and walking turning around always in your site.
I know that the windows can be opened, that changing the air depends on you
it will help you, it's worth the while again
Knowing that you can, wanting to be able to,
getting rid of the fears, turning them inside out
painting the face the color of hope, tempting the future with the heart.
It's better to get lost than not to embark,
it's better to tempt oneself than to stop trying
eventhough you know it's not so easy to start.
I know that the impossible can be done, that sadness will vanish someday,
and it will be like this: life changes and will change.
You'll feel that the soul wants to sing once more.
It's better to shine than only to want to see the sun...

I like it, definately something to make you think. As far as the other....well unfortunately, oki, when we were in 5th grade I had two options for radio, classic rock and country. Somehow I don't think that song would have fallen into either category, which would explain why I didn't recognize it, curse Nevada! xp

The actual song is called Viva la vida

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

Here's one I just heard tonight that's somewhat crazy but really cool. Renton, you should like this one!

Group: Genesis

Song Title: Carpet Crawlers

Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23cUcLKc374

Lyrics:

There is lambswool under my naked feet
The wool is soft and warm
- Gives off some kind of heat
A salamander scurries into flame to be destroyed
Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid
The fleas cling to the golden fleece
Hoping they'll find peace
Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid
There's no hiding in memory
There's no room to avoid

The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor
From a second side of feeling, they've more lifeblood than before
They're moving in time to a heavy wooden door
Where the needle's eye is winking, closing on the poor
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

There's only one direction in the faces that I see
It's upward to the ceiling, where the chamber's said to be
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they're free
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

Mild-mannered supermen are held in kryptonite
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright
Through the door a harvest feast is lit by candlelight
It's the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

The porcelain mannikin with shattered skin fears attack
And the eager pack lift up their pitchers - they carry all they lack
The liquid has congealed, which has seeped out through the crack
And the tickler takes his stickleback
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get outWe've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out ... "
