Tatsuya stalked through the grass trying to be quite like his father used to tell him to be. He scented the air trying to separate the many different smells. Tatsuya could smell a rabbit he was sure of it, but which way?
After a few moments he choose a direction. Steady and silent he certainly was not, even though he was trying his best. After a while of searching he had indeed caught up with a rabbit, but now the hard part was about to start.
One paw at a time, Tatsuya repeated to himself as he tried to close the gap between them. He felt his confidence growing, he was going to catch it for sure.
SNAP! A twig broke beneath his paw and the rabbit darted off. An adult would know better than to waste their energy on a chase this far lost, but Tatsuya is still young. He darted out of the bushes and tried to keep the rabbit in sight.
"Oh come on I'm hungry!!!!"

A black and grey blur ran out of the bushes the rabbit was running past. The rabbit was no where to be seen. Daisuke had been working a squirrel and the rabbit was too good a chance to pass up! He hadn't had rabbit meat in ages! He stopped, and shook the still struggling rabbit until it became limp.
His nose twitched slightly as he caught the scent of another. He also smelled his old friend Raithen, but it wasn't strong enough to denote his presence.
He thought for a moment.
It had to be Tatsuya!
Little did he know he was standing right in the puppy's path.

Tatsuya saw something ahead and he gasped as he realized someone had intercepted his kill. He put on his breaks stopped inches away from crashing into a mass of gray and black fur, which he didn't reconize as Daisuke's at the moment.
"Hey!!! That was my chase!!! I was catching up to it!! AND I'M HUNGRY!!!"
Tatsuya whinnied knowing he would have to give up this prey. The other dog was much bigger then he was there would be no fighting for it. Before waiting for a reply he turned to walk away tail tucked between his legs maybe his Poppa Raithen had been more successful.

Daisuke set the rabbit down and chuckled in spite of himself.
"Oi, Tatsuya, s'that any way to speak to your uncle?" He asked watching the pup as he licked the blood from his lips.
His eyes glittered merrily. He was happy he had gotten it instead of someone else. Otherwise the pup would go hungry. The male knew there were other chances to catch his own lunch.
He reclined to his haunches and waited.

Tatsuya's ears perked to the sound of a familiar voice. He turned around wagging his tail just happy to see his uncle instead of some grumpy dog.
"Oh I'm sorry uncle Daisuke! I didn't know it was you." Tatsuya sat down happy to take a chance to catch his breath for now.
"It doesn't bother me if the kill is going to family." He said with a smile, it was true he didn't mind so much now that he knew it was Daisuke though it didn't change the fact that he was hungry.

Daisuke grinned. "No worries, Tatsuya." He picked up the rabbit and tossed it at the puppy's feet. "It was your catch...tuck in." He told him, wrapping his tail about his body. He licked more blood from his lips. "I can eat later." The male added.
"You earned it." He winked.

"Eh?! Really Uncle Daisuke?!" Tatsuya eyes got all big and he waggled his tail before chomping into the rabbit. It tasted so good!!
Tatsuya stopped once he was about half way through the rabbit.
"Uncle Daisuke? Wanna share? Then maybe we can go hunting together to get some more kill? Your so fast it took me a second to even realize what happened!!"

He laughed openly. "No, no...you eat." Daisuke watched the pup. "You know...we can still hunt. I'll just eat then." He reassured him. "And...that fast eh?" He asked, amused at how excitable he seemed to be. "You'll get that fast too you know." He paused.
"S'that your first rabbit on your own?" He asked.

Tatsuya didn't question Daisuke's reply, he dug into the rabbit once more finishing it off and licking his lips before grinning up to his uncle.
"Yeah! Really Fast!! You were like whoosh and I was like gasp what?!...Do you really think I'll get fast.....Poppa Slash was fast, but it's hard for me to ever think of being fast like you or him or strong like Poppa Raithen."
Tatsuya got a proud look on his face as though he himself had caught the rabbit.
"It's my first....attempt to catch anything for real. I want to help out and stop being just a useless mouth to feed. Not that anyone has called me that, but that's how I feel." Tatsuya smiled, but some times he felt like a burden.

Daisuke nodded. "Yes, you'll get that fast...I'd bet my life on it." He told the pup seriously. He sighed softly at his "nephew's" words. "You're not useless." He told him seriously. "Everyone has to learn to hunt."
He smiled softly.
"I remember feeling the same way." he told him. "But you know what Kirby, my teacher, told me?" He asked before continuing anyway. "He said, 'true dogs' are not born but are made. It's the same way with hunters. You can't expect to know how to do it as soon as your eyes open. Just like you can't expect to know your values or the rules of life." He smirked.
"So let's make you a hunter!" He said giving the pup a play-bow before rising to all four paws.

Tatsuya's tail wagged faster as he listened to Daisuke. He nodded to show he was paying close attention to what Daisuke was saying.
"This Kirby had to know what he was talking about, if he taught you. And I bet with you and Raithen as my teacher, I really can live up to my name!"
Tatsuya pushed off the ground in a great hop of excitement. Showing off one of his setter strengths without really knowing it.
"Let's go!!" Tatsuya said upon landing. "I can't wait what should we do first?"

Daisuke chuckled. "First...you need to calm down." He said with a knowing smile. "You'll scare everything within a kilometer away if you don't." He said.
"Now...I hunt differently than most...so, well how I start is when you see something you want to go after. Start from behind, it." He began.
"See that rock?" He asked.
"Pretend that's a squirrel or something." He said as he took a step closer to it. He took another but this time it was painstakingly slow. He started to take another and froze. "It stopped whatever it was doing or perked it's ears." He explained as he took another slow step. "You just keep working your way over until you're close enough that you can run up and grab it!" He told the pup.
"Think you can do that?" Daisuke asked.

Tatsuya laughed a bit and nodded his head. "I can do that for sure!"
Tatsuya tilted his head a bit it was far different from what his parents had taught him. They had always said that a hunt started far before one sees their prey, but uncle was a different breed so there was a great chance for mixing techniques that he could make a style all his own.
"I think I can!! Are you gonna tell me when the rock perks?" Tatsuya giggled a bit, but got in a similar hunting position though a bit more befitting to a setter's body. He started to move slowly though he was quite a bit wobbly, he still had puppy muscles after all.

Daisuke chuckled. "I can do one better...pretend I'm a squirrel." He said as he trotted out a few metres in front of the pup. He put his nose to the ground and pretended to root around for some unseen food source. The retriever smirked to himself. He'd love to find a rabbit or something for Tatsuya to try next.
It would be far more gratifying, he reasoned.
"Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel, squirrel-y, squirrel." He sang under his breath. He chuckled slightly at his own idiocy. He remembered Kirby doing the same sort of thing for him, and realized he had grown to be more like his mentor than he ever thought possible. It was something he was very proud of.

Tatsuya snorted trying to hide the laughter at the sight of his uncle acting like a squirrel. It took him a moment to regain a more serious mood. He shifted his paws along the earth trying not to make a sound. Waiting for any sign the fake squirrel might hear him, he crept closer with his belly practically touching the ground.
