Oh, man, when Taj found Daka, his brother was gonna get it! At this point, Taj hadn’t really quite decided what ‘it’ was, but he figured this was a minor point. The important point was that Daka was going to get it. The black and white cub excitedly bounded over the grasslands, looking around for his older sibling; why, just earlier today, Daka had promised---promised---that he would play hide n’ seek with his new little brother, which delighted Taj to no end. But, alas, Taj was a mastermind at hiding. Clearly, he must’ve been, since he had been hiding for over an hour and Daka still hadn’t found him.

“Daaaaaakaaaaa! Daka, Daka, Dakaaaaaaaa!” the little cub inhaled as much air as his little lungs could carry before yelling out his brother’s name, trying to find him. Overhead, the sun was high in the sky, sending more of the less excitable and hyper creatures to the shade. But not Taj! The world was far too fascinating to just let it by. And there was so much to do all the time! Like find Dak, hey a bug! Taj promptly forgot about his mission of finding Daka and instead focused on a fluttering insect who had the distinct misfortune of flying past at that moment.

Instantly putting his front end close to the ground, Taj failed to understand that putting his butt up in the air presented a wonderful target for anything else around, especially with his tail advertising his location and everything. Thankfully, the butterfly was equally ignorant of the dangers of creeping cubs and continued to merrily flitter from flower to flower. And, every time the butterfly moved to a different flower, Taj would leap on the flower that it had just left, which really was a useless activity. But, who cared?

It was fun!

Aha! Now this was the perfect time… his blue eyes narrowed as the butterfly finally landed on a flower, apparently finding a meal within the petals. Once again, the cub stalked closer, his tail still held high in the air. It was a pretty noisy stalking technique, actually, especially since he had absolutely no idea how to silence his steps. Luckily for him, butterflies were well-known for incipient deafness.

She looked her paw over slowly, critically, turning it over now and then. It was the third time she'd licked herself clean, smoothing over her fur. If anything, she loved complements. Loved to have her mother's proud smile shine on her when she displayed a clean and well-groomed coat. Still...it wasn't enough. She could only groom herself so many times and kill so much time doing it.

Sighing, she lowered her paw down. Hello? What was this?

A spot of bright yellow flashed around through the dull, dry browns and golds of the grass just a ways from where she lounged. Another cub?

Scimitar slowly pushed herself to her feet and spared a long glance in either direction. Looking forward, her eyes narrowed and her maw pulled into a sly smirk.

"You're all miiiine..." She snickered, dropping from the small boulder to the ground below. Not that she was a better hunter at her age, but the young male had already padded a path through the grass, making her way a bit easier- not to mention slightly more silent.

She froze as the cub did, stalked forward as he did, her own rump up in the air, large rounded ears pinned back. Upon his next freeze, Scimitar curled into her back legs and sprang out, giving a loud mewl (what was in her mind a vicious roar).

Taj’s butt wiggled excitedly as he watched the butterfly, waiting for the absolutely perfect moment. Not yeeeeet… not yeeeeet… NOW! And right as the last word entered his mind, he heard what sounded like the most vicious meow ever. But, considering the competition, this didn’t mean much. He whirled around, the fur around the back of his neck fluffing up in a little ridge. His first thought was that it was Daka----hooray!----but he quickly realized that it couldn’t be. Daka had a much more vicious roar than that. And it couldn’t be any of his other siblings either, since they were all back home with Mommy and Daddy. By the time that he finally figured out that this new cub couldn’t be anyone he knew, it was too late.

The other cub had already careened into him, bowling the black and white cub over. Oh, so they wanted to play that game, huh? Growling playfully, Taj kicked out with his back legs, careful not to use his claws, just as Mommy had always told him. “I’m gonna get you for that!” he giggled. In his mind, it didn’t matter that he didn’t know this other cub. It was another cub! And that was quite enough.

With his own vicious mew of a roarlet, he nommed the other cub’s ear. And it was actually a nom. Not a gnaw, not a chew, but a nom. Clearly, upon first meeting another cub, it was good manners to taste their ear. Forget the names! That was unimportant. Having fun was far more important.

She'd not expected her target to actually fight back! But that made the game all the more interesting. Her mouth parted in silent protest and pathetic, outraged mews as the other cub nibbled at her ear. This one must have been a fighting master! Noms and kicks at the same time. She'd not be outdone by him though. Not him.

Padded paws began batting and pushing at the other cub's face as she countered his kicks with light, squirming ones of her own. Anything to free herself up.

Likewise, introductions could wait. After she'd claimed victory!

Aha! What a fiendishly clever foe! Taj was used to his older brother’s tail---which never fought back, since Daka preferred to ignore his little brother insofar as possible---or, perhaps, an unfortunate bug. Those also generally didn’t fight back a whole lot, except for bees, which hardly counted at all. But, what a fiend! This one could kick and bat with her front paws at the same time! How would Taj, the brave warrior, get out of this one? Yes, the cub actually was narrating his adventures inside his head, even as he playfully fought back against this new enemy.

He let out a squeal at the attacks to his face and his ears automatically pressed back against his skull. Quickly releasing his prey, Taj rolled over to escape her. At least without her front paws pinning him down, he could easily roll away! Standing up on his hind legs quickly, he batted at her ears once more, delighting in this newfound game of his. Well… theirs. Now at least he could see his newfound nemesis, an unfamiliar female cub.

“I’m gonna get you for tackling me! It’ll be a catastrophe!” Emphasis on the ‘cat’ part, of course.

What a strange combat style! She never thought in a million years that someone could roll out of her death pounce! The female voiced her aggravation in the form of a low growl in the pit of her throat. As her foe freed himself, she too righted herself on her paws, tail lashing at the air as her ears pinned back.

Now he was batting at his ears, standing on his hind legs. Two paws... what a fun idea! She wanted to give it a shot.

"Never!" She yowled back, throwing herself to her hind paws to bat at his flailing paws. "You've never faced the likes of me! I am Scimitar! Master of the pounce!"

The bravest warrior in all the lands met his nemesis’s paws, blow for blow! Well, mostly. If Taj had to be truthful, he missed a few, but he ignored those because he was just that tough. Yeah, that’s right! “And you’ve never faced the likes of me, for I am… am…” he paused for a moment, balancing on his hindquarters, with one paw wapping helplessly at the air while the other attempted to hold Scimitar back.

“I am Taj, the defender of justice!” he decided eventually and triumphantly. It sounded grand enough to him, although his view of justice was fairly limited at the moment. Right now, the worst injustice he had ever faced was being sent to bed without dinner. Imagine that! How cruel was that?! And, it was up to Taj, Defender of Justice, to stop such a thing from ever happening to an innocent cub ever again! Still, he had to admit. He wished he was the master of the death pounce. That sounded so cool!

Or… or maybe he could be the master of the… umm… strike! The death strike! That sounded like fun!
