With great trepidation, I think I shall attempt to contribute something to this guild. I've been putting together a costume, and will probably post that at some point once it's all put together. I've just done a few simple modifications to the wonderful Nerf Maverick. There's a paint job, which I need to correct in a few places that are bugging me and then seal. I also cut away a few pieces so the barrel swings out fully and did a couple other mods to give it a bit more of a boost to the firepower. As this was my first time modifying a nerf gun, I did mess up a bit, so it doesn't shoot consistantly anymore, but I don't mind, since I had fun playing around with it. I know what I did wrong, and can correct that in the future.

Ah, but enough of my mad ramblings; I shall post a few pictures for your viewing and critiquing pleasure.

October 13th, 2008 addition:

Today I was bored and had access to a few key materials, a relatively inexpensive jumpdrive, a couple of exacto-knives, my supply of paints, and a bit of extra time on my hands. I'll admit, the cog, hrm, etching, for lack of a better word, was done with some rather inefficient tools. One knife I had was blunt, the other one so large as to be unwieldy. However, I feel I did an adequate job in capturing some essence of the brass cog. I do apologize for the rather fuzzy images, my camera decided it did not want to focus properly today, ah well. While not really steam, it is more of fitting into the color-scheme and idea of it. Without further ado, for your critiquing pleasure, my little jumpdrive.:

Jolly good fun to make, eh? These are becoming more and more popular to mod this nerf gun, I have made a couple myself. Did use spray paint or is it hand painted?

To Captain Amaranth: Thank you so very much, good sir, for the compliment!

To Steel Jay: It is indeed quite a fun one to work with. I found many different variations on the Maverick, a few I wish I could have. There is a vampire hunter-esque one I quite wish to re-create. I hand painted this one, first with a layer of black, then dry brushing until I achieved the look I wanted.

I gave them a painting of black-steel grey-silver then sanded to get weathered. I have made a true steamgun and one that looks more like a weathered black handcannon with a silver revolving barrel. I think I have pictures of the steamgun posted but I am not sure.

Oh that sounds lovely. I've wanted to do more intense modifications and creations of things, but I don't have the tools, resources, or experience necessary at the moment. Ah, if only I was still taking art classes and had access to the sculpture barn. But that is neither here nor there. I am always excited to see what others have come up with.

There is now an addition of slightly steam-esque jumpdrive in the first post.
