Huffs of powdery breaths floated up and away from the pale mare, corpse-colored coat blending her rather snugly into the soft covering of snow. Although she'd managed to find suitable shelter beneath a group of sturdy pines the night before, the cold had long since trickled into her bones and blood. More than enough of a reason to keep moving though, she'd finally opted grudgingly that morning when the sun had set the world around her into a white flare that promised to blind her at first change.

Which it did, and rather often, whenever there wasn't a bare outcropping of rock for her to focus on, or random bits of green to unsettle the constant brightness.

Another scowl, and Beatrice paused, squinting her eyes as she followed the winding path further up the side of the mountain, up and up until it vanished onto the other side. Was this ever going to end? Or rather, begin? She was beginning to think the path was suited only for those with wings. A horrible thought, really, if this was apparently the safest route of crossing the mountains, minus the large pass between the two ranges further to the east. The pass was, however, currently blocked by snow and ice. How, she wasn't really sure. Last night's light fluff couldn't have caused such a troublesome sight, but regardless...

Flexing her legs a bit to shake a bit of the chill as she remained still, her plans wandered through her mind, deciding a judgment call was in order. Did she still want to get to the desert? Yes, though the rush was slowly diminishing. Did she have to get across this mountain to get to the desert? Until the path defrosted, yes. But right this moment..?

Pink eyes danced around in bitter mirth. No, an immediate departure wasn't needed. A sound from within rang out and she sighed. Food, on the other hoof...

Maion yawned lazily from his cave home, the sun billowed softly through the entrance and as his eyes focused in on the world around him he noticed that there was a soft layer of snow had settled during the night. Clambering to his feet he stretched his muscles and flexed his wings to wake himself up. Everything seemed so quite now that his Mother was gone, and although it had been years his heart still yearn for her, longed for company. Sure he had had lots of encounters lately but none of them had been satisfying for his loneliness.

Walking slowly towards the entrance he smiled the sun was magnificent today, it had a slight mellow glow about it especially since there was still some snow falling gently from the sky, caressing the Oceans waves moving thin sheets of ice that had settled near the cliff sides.

Flapping his great wings behind him a few times he prepared to take to the skies, the wind was blowing in a north-east direction which meant that his descent from the cave could prove to be trickier than usual. Smiling he jumped from the cliff, the wind caught him pushing him back towards the cliffs side, he descended slowly towards the waves until suddenly he flapped his giant wings once more, forcing himself back up into the air, controlling his movements he flew through the skies. His eyes watching the land for movements, crabs scurried on the rocks below, seagulls swooped the Ocean in search of food, everything seemed normal.

Flying back towards the Mountain he noticed someone in the pass, where they lost or stuck? Unsure he decided to fly towards them, a small smile peeled across his lips as he approached. He called down to a dainty mare, she seemed slightly cold. “Are you ok?”

Sounds reached her, unusual but not alarming. Wings thrusting a body forward through the endless space of the sky, nothing more nothing less. And yet... the sound was off.

Yes, the sound.

Her eyes fluttered towards closed, ears twitching lazily towards the sound. It was heavier than any bird she knew of, despite how low they might be. Memories of her brother and mother, both winged whilst their other blood relation meandered on the ground, flashed then. The sound was familiar, her brain then realized, more memories surfacing as the puzzle clicked.

Eyes open, body turned, ears back, Beatrice watched with a wary expression as a dark figure flared against the light sky. As the void drew closer, she frowned, head cocked as wonder slowly shoved aside mistrust. Wings -four? Nay, more, counting the ones upon his hind legs and ears. Slowly she drew back, unsure as to what exactly this creature was. Those with one set of wings was normal enough to see, but this..? Never in her wanderings had she even heard of such a being existing in this world.

It spoke, and she found herself unsurprised to hear the powerful starry mass was male. But then, even just looking would tell her that, now wouldn't it?

"I'm fine, thank you," she finally pushed out in a normal voice, unwavering though she still pondered if bolting would be needed in this situation. He didn't look like the type to fight... but those bloody bandages hinted otherwise...

Straightening where she stood, hooves nailing themselves to the snowy soil, she allowed curiosity to take hold. "Pardon my rudeness, but... well, to be blunt, what are you? I've never seen someone with so many wings." Her gaze wandered over their white expanse, brow raised in awed question.

A small smile sprinkled across his lips as he listened to mare before him; perhaps he had jumped to the wrong conclusion although he also noted that the path was blocked by ice and snow. Tiny snow flakes continued to fall yet their frequency was dismal in comparison to those the fell with such a wild passion during the night. Quickly he watched and listening, flapping his wings softly to stay afloat before determining it would be best to land. As she asked what he was he found himself gentle landing behind her, his hooves digging deeply into the ice and snow that resided in the pass. Turning softly he straightened up and began to tuck his mighty wings tightly in at his sides to examine the female more as he replied. She seemed pretty and harmless yet he knew that sometimes appearances where not everything.

He bowed his head low, holding for a second before standing tall once more, his eyes attempting to catch focus with her own as he spoke, his voice echoing softly through the pass. "My name is Maion, I am of the Angeni." He allowed his eyes to survey the surroundings as he waited for her response.
