The Sheriff You walk through the city's walls, through the town centre and into the very heart of the city. You are met with the inner wall for the castle's courtyard. Built into the thick wall is a largeish, wealthy looking building with a red roof, small stained glass widnows, a set fo stairs to it's enterance, and a door at it's roof which opened out directly to the top of the wall's walkway. This is the house of The Sherriff of Ash Coast - Lord Adel's eldest son. While often out on patrol in the town, organising the few J.Ps and tax collections, here is where he spends most of his free time in the day, and reciving peasents and townspeople's complaints and pleas for help...
The Castle
...If you have serious business, or are invited to one of the exclusive parties Lord Adel or his daughters hold, you will be lucky enough to be allowed into the castle. The castle is huge and lavishly decorated, however closer inspection shows that there have been a number of cost-cutting procedures in it's building and decorating that hints that the family are trying to presnt themselves as wealtheir than they actually are. However this is only really for the highest of elites - for the average man or woman, the castle is a lavish paradise... Teh castle is occupioed by Lord Adel and his two Daughters - Raven (the eldest) and Cassandra (the youngest at 18 yrs old)

[should I have Vence boldly go in? or start thinking second thoughts?......I like the latter. Makes it more lifelike. whee ]
As Vence approached the castle, he wondered suddenly if he was doing the right thing. He had never been one to say goodbye to people just like that, especially to a girl. He allowed his pace to slow as he continued to walk, closing in on the castle.

In the inner courtyard, sat on some of the steps upto the main castle, Cassandra sat with her back leant on the wall, a large embroidery in the making in her hands, chatting to her sister. Since the attacks the sisters had barely been apart, and neither of them were comfortable leaving their father or azriel alone. But Azriel had insisted that he carried on with his duties as sherriff, and their father had busied himself in fretting about improving the town's defenses. Raven paused talking when she spotted Vence enter and nudged her sister. The Younger girl looekd up and smiled. placing her sewing down and hurrying over to Vence.
"Vence! you came back! How are you doing?" She asked, smiling. "I was worried about you."

Vence smiled as she came over. For some reason, the concern that had been in his mind before disapeared. Maybe there was something about her he liked, besides her enthusiasm and concern. Worried about him. There weren't too many people that did that.
"Were you now? I'm touched," he said jokingly, putting his hand at his heart. "I've been doing pretty well, actually. I decided it was best that I bid farewell in person. I'll be leaving pretty soon."

"Oh no, it's not that at all. I actually impressed with your father. Not many can deal with what he has to, and I respect him for that. But I figured it best be time for me to move on. Partially because I want to continue training, and partially because I believe by doing so, Ash Coast will have peace returned to it."
Vence sighed, his head down, for a moment, and suddenly smiled.
"What am I saying, giving my own little speech? I figured it best to say goodbye in person, Cassandra. I can promise you this won't be the last time we meet; I'll come back to visit, whenever I can. I can write letters, too."
Well, that did it. You just confessed your love, didn't you? Vence blushed slightly, realizing what his thoughts said were right, in a way. For some reason, he couldn't exactly put her out of his mind, and now he was standing saying he would write letters when he was in Dwstein.

Cassandra smiled, hesitated for a milisecond and then hugged him tighty around his waist. Behind them, raven made a little exclimation and sncikered ot herself. At that Cassandra withdrew and blushed scarlet. "Oh I uh...I apologise. " she shook her head. "Vence I would very much like that you visit again, and I will write to you. i suppose I understand why you ahve to go, but I wish you could stay."

Vence was slightly surprised when she hugged him, not expecting that at all, but he didn't hesitate to return the hug. He noticed Raven snickering, but he didn't care.
I wish I could stay too, Cassandra," Vence said. Vence thought for a moment, and got an idea. Taking a quick look at the ground, he picked up a semi-smooth, inspecting it. Finding it suitable, he went to work, taking only a second.
"Ei maer os jhyli, Ai aelali ail si. Jhaer sia maer shes shael Ai parn baes si."
With a quick flash, the stone burst into a green flame, but for only a moment. When the flame disapeared, the stone was completly smooth, oval-shaped. Etched into the rock was a depiction of a single rose. He handed it to Cassandra.
"When this stone burns red, It means I am near. Keep it where you like." Vence smiled, satisfied. Where he had gotten the idea, he did not know. He gave himself a mental note to remember what he just did.
[need a translation? "A seal of love, I engrave in thee. Let thy seal burn when I draw near thee." Who knew Vence was such a nice guy? xd ]

Cassandra's eyes windened at the magic and she cupped the rose in her hand as delicately as one woudl hold a newborn chick. "Amazing..thankyou." She hugged the stone to her chest. "I can't do anything fanacy liek that but..." She blinekd as she had an idea and pulled out a pink ribbon that bound her hair. "There. It'll bring you good luck"

Vence took the ribbon in his hand, looking for a moment, then tied it around his wrist.
"I will always wear it," was all he said. To him, the ribbon was by far better than the stone.
With nothing left to do, his business done there, he didn't know how it would be best to leave. He didn't want to leave, that was for sure. making up his mind, he gave another quick hug to Cassandra, the turned to leave. Before he left the gate he turned around and gave a quick wave of his hand. Then he was gone.
[well, that went well...pretty romantic, don't you think. Typical, actually. stare whee ] [Vence has left the Castle, headed for the Road to Galgorra Forest]

Cassandra and Raven waved back. Once he was gone, Cassandra hurried over to Raven to show her the stone, and to await Vence's first letter...
