This time the mistress would meet the candidate downstairs, in a room with windows. She didn't fear this one, not with all six of her children gathered and in the upstairs room where she had met all the others. Not while he was still human and only that, at any rate... The mistress knelt on a black cushion, rested her elbow on Lucifuge's knee. This time he wouldn't leave her, because he knew this one. "The Incubus is outside with the boy," said the Prime Minister, his lips grazing the top of her head. "And the other Sins are gathering upstairs. Shall I go?"

"No," murmured the mistress. "You stay here, Luci. We don't want to be without your guidance for this, most important of roles." It was the final piece to the puzzle, this child- Pride. He would be the leader of the Sins, because he represented the most greivous of them, the original sin that condemned the angels to fall. She felt no guilt, no compunctions about betraying the trust of one of the other Sins- it wasn't a betrayal, per say. By doing this, she made it possible for the boy to protect himself, thereby upholding her agreement with Akedia. You'll be able to protect the boy, she had said. We will never cause him harm.

The mistress never lied. She straightened as the door to the parlor room opened and her last child walked in.

Soah was dressed casually, and was rather unaware of what was going to happen. He wore a surf-board logo t-shirt, with shorts and flip-flops to top off his casual look. Beside him stood the Incubus, his horns and wings expertly hidden, clad in the favored leather pants that Soah had found for him in his father's old trunk of out-of-style clothes. They stood together in an oddly companionable silence, though neither could be considered companions in a friendly sense at all. Merihem was fastly coming to loathe the boy, and with Soah's attentions keenly fixed on someone else, Merihem was becoming an irritant to him. But, it was the weekend, and the weekends were for Merihem. Soah would sate the Incubus's anger, and if Merihem wanted to spend further time with him, Soah would allow it. The week days were long and neglectful for Merihem, and Soah really was surprised that the Incubus put up with it. But, then again, he imagined Merihem was avoiding 'stepping on toes' - Astaroth's toes, to be exact.

Merihem was the one to open the door, though he almost curtly held it open so Soah could go through first, and once the boy was in he hung back by that door. The Incubus leaned against the frame of the building, folding his arms at his chest and patiently waiting for what was to come, or for him to be dismissed. Either way, he really didn't care. He was well fed today, and so a sour mood wouldn't come upon him so randomly.

"Hello." The boy's voice was lightened with curiosity, his head tilting imperceptibly to the left. He didn't sense any sort of immediate danger, and he was certain that someone wanted him alive well enough to keep him alive. Otherwise Merihem might have tried something nasty, because Soah was sure that the Incubus was tempted to at times.

"Soah," said the mistress warmly, standing and holding out her arms. "How are you, child?"

Even Lucifuge, sitting beside her though clearly subservient, looked a little surprised at the greeting. The two had never met, so why was she acting as if she had known the boy since he was a child? It wasn't his place to object, of course, so he sat back in the chair and looked over at Merihem. "Incubus," he rumbled, "Take a seat."

Soah stared quizically at the woman before him, at the open arms. The only person that hugged him openly recently was Neil, and he wasn't sure he wanted to connect this woman to Neil. He didn't want the perfect image of his lover ruined in his mind. Yet... it seemed rude to refuse her gesture, and he didn't want her to take it the wrong way. So, he settled for staring at her awkwardly for a few moments, and then hesitantly he stepped forward, his arms coming around her waist in an equally awkward few moments. "I'm fine, and how are you?" It was too rude to ask the specifics of who she was and why she was acting this way with him, so he would have to settle with returning her questions in kind.

With careless steps, Merihem moved to take a seat next to Lucifuge, settling comfortably against the back of his chair. His unnaturally dark eyes shifted over to the mistress and Soah, though he was only vaguely interested in the situation. He could find more interest in staring at Lucifuge, but since that was rude, he just settled back silently and watched the going-on's. Unless they directly involved him, his interest in it was slim, and only there because it involved his contracted.

She laughed delightedly, hugging him close for a moment. "We are fine," said the mistress, letting go of Soah and kneeling on her cushion. "We just heard of you from Our good friend Lucifuge, and wanted to meet you Ourselves." With a quizzical look, she gestured at the chairs around the room, indicating the boy could sit if he chose.

"We wondered if you knew who is upstairs right now," she murmured, bringing one hand to her face as if thinking it over. "But We assume you do not, because you are here, aren't you?"

That gave him a moment of puzzlement, that 'we' portion of her comment, but he dismissed it as a slip of the tongue. But, then she had continued on with that kind of speech, and he was beginning to doubt his earlier assessment. "Really?" That was a little surprising, that someone would want to meet him just because he had been acquaintances with another demon. Quizically he glanced around the room, spotting Lucifuge easily from where he sat next to Merihem. He hadn't thought he had left that good of an impression, or any sort of impression at all. But, then again, he did have to wonder why Lucifuge didn't mind hanging around with him occassionally. But, really, the three times that they had met had been circumstancial. So certainly he hadn't left much of any impression at all.

"Who's upstairs?" It was the natural question to follow her statement, and as she bid he took a seat next to her, leaning forward and peering at her through indigo eyes. "Umm... can I ask what your name is? It seems a little unfair that you know what my name is, but I don't know your's." What was he supposed to say to Neil later, anyways? That he met someone who referred to herself as 'We'? That was a little weird, and he wasn't sure how Neil would take it. A name would be much better.

Her eyes danced with glee as Lucifuge sat forward, looking nervous. At a gesture, he sank back into the chair though the look of apprehension remained. "What makes you think you are important enough to know Our names, boy?" There was a pause, but then she laughed aloud.

"Our name is Legion, for We are many," she said. "This body's name is Martel di Desvignes. Do you want to know who is upstairs or not, Soah?"

The response startled him, because up until that point she had seemed polite and even nice, but that reply was a direct insult to him. He was hardly insignificant, unimportant, and it grated on his nerves just slightly. But, he didn't show his little irritation on his face, and instead turned his gaze away from her to examine the arm of his chair. He chose not to respond to the statement, because it would likely draw out some arguement, and he didn't want it to turn to that. No, Martel had piqued his interest and his curiosity - he did want to know who was upstairs, and why Martel thought it was so important that he would want to know. So, in order to obtain that information, he had to resist bickering with her at all costs.

"Martel?" He knew the name, and was genuinely surprised by the revelation. He was so surprised that he almost forgot that she had basically said there was more than one person in her body - but, he stored that information away in the back of his mind to later be thoroughly examined and questions. "I... do," he replied, though now he wasn't sure if he really wanted to know. He was beginning to not like her, and the vibes she sent out was starting to make his skin crawl.

"Your lover," she crooned, eyes half-closing as a catty smile developed on her face. The mistress rose to her feet again, gesturing to Lucifuge once more. With an irritated sigh, the Prime Minister moved to block the door- the one exit out. "Our son. You see, Akedia-" A pause. She turned to peer at Soah. "You call him Neil, yes? Well." Her dress made light noises against the hardwood floors as she walked to the window. "Neil agreed to become a Sin. So We must ask you a question, Soah."

She continued to stare out the window as she stood there silently, as if waiting for Soah to say something.

"Neil?" The word popped out of his lips with a little note of surprise, and with the mentioning of Neil, it was going to be difficult to keep him rooted to the same spot. Already he wanted to see his lover, wanted to hug him and snuggle close. "Excuse me, then - " He stood up out of the chair, moving towards the staircase to walk upstairs to see his lover, but Martel's next words made him pause, made him glance over his shoulder in hesitant curiosity. "A Sin? Your son? You're being ridiculous. He would have told me, he wouldn't have done it without talking to me first..." He was so certain of this, having placed all of his faith in his lover, and it was silly, but he did expect to be told of such important things, unless they were too personal for Neil to discuss.

He caught movement out of the corner of his eye, and anxiously he glanced towards Lucifuge to see him blocking the exit. What? Did they intend to keep him here? Why? What had he done? He glanced around for another window, but the only one there was the one that Martel was standing in front of. "I'm going to get Neil, and then I'm going," he voice his intention because he doubted it would make any difference. He was asking them, in a way, to move so he could leave, because he didn't like the implications of the situation.

She laughed, a completely different sound than before. This one was a long, low, nearly silent susurration in the air that reflected the sudden blackness of her eyes in a too-eerie fashion. "Akedia had one chance to say yes or no. He said yes. As for why you have not been told..." Martel ran her hands through her curls. "He told Us not to harm you. Perhaps he feared telling you would invoke Our anger? It mattered not...

"Now, Our question, Soah. What makes you think you are strong enough to get through Lucifuge?" One eyebrow lifted, a slight irritation present in the wrinkles between the black eyes. Her voice, previously the sound of just three voices in cacophonous harmony, multiplied into many- the thousands of souls that had to exist inside that single body. "Even a Prince of Hell couldn't prevent him from doing as he chose. Perhaps he will disobey Our orders and not harm you... Perhaps he will not. But you will not leave until We are done with you."

Soah mentally sighed, understanding now why Neil had not told him. It had always been Soah's wish that Neil wouldn't do anything for him, and this was definitely something for him. Soah could take care of himself, and though it made his insides tingly with pleasure at the knowledge that Neil would do something so drastic for him, some part of him still wished it had not been done. He wasn't going to yell at Neil for it, the deed had been done, and he doubted that it could be changed, so there was no point in him arguing with Neil over it. He didn't want to hurt their relationship... He might not even bring it up if he managed to get out of here without being pulled along for whatever ride this Martel had in mind.

"It doesn't matter how strong I am. I am going to get through." He didn't like the pressure, and he liked this situation less. He needed to get Neil and get out of here... He didn't want to be here any longer. The thousands of voices encompassed in that one was making his skin crawl unpleasantly, and the hairs on the back of his neck stand up on alert. "I'll leave when I want," he replied defiantly, and without another word turned around and headed upstairs to collect his lover.

Lucifuge spun and reached out to grab Soah's arm, but missed because of the spectacle at the top of the stairs. The tip of a snake's tail hung over several steps, black scales glinting with violet light; the large body merged seamlessly into a woman's alabaster, perfect (and unobscured) torso that was just barely decent due to long white and black locks. One arm reached out towards the boy, black nails dripping red liquid that was too thick to be blood and too thin to be paint or clay. "Lamia won't let you, even if Lucifuge does," said Martel from just behind Soah. She had followed at some point.

"Will you listen to Our proposition? We mean you no harm. We mean Neil no harm. Simply put, We desire your aid in accomplishing one small goal. It will not take much of your time, it will change nothing but one thing... And you, too, will be a Sin. With your lover." She smiled, and her voices receded to just one, the attractive tones of a woman in her prime. "Or are you afraid of me?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 11, 2008 5:53 pm

He paused at the sight of the gleaming black tail blocking his way, gaze anxiously trailing up the creature's body to fix upon the hand outstretched to him. To see those black nails genuinely scared him, and with a little gasp he took a few steps back, only to hear Martel's voice sounding off right behind him. Anxiously he wheeled around ninety degrees, so that he could keep both Martel and Lamia in his line of sight. He was trapped, stuck between two beings that he found rather distasteful at the moment. It was doing nothing to calm his anxiety, this bullying of him. "Move," he replied in a stronger voice, as if his fear was making him more determined to get out of this situation. He would not be forced to stay here - he refused.

He took a step back down the stairs, pushing the limit, trying to see if she'll budge, and if she doesn't he'll just try to shove her aside so he can get away from this suffocating closeness. "If you meant me no harm, you wouldn't be pressuring me like this." But the idea had struck him, the idea that he could be a Sin with Neil, that somehow Neil becoming a Sin wouldn't drive them apart. Oh, it was a tempting idea, and he almost wanted it, but not under these circumstances, not with them surrounding him like this. "I'm not afraid. I want you to move."

The snake-woman hissed, a markedly bestial sound from such a human-seeming throat. Her face moved into the light for a brief moment, unveiling sharp teeth and bloody tears from empty eyesockets, but then she was back in the shadows, as if a nightmarish apparition.

"Why, you're awfully sure of yourself. And of me, and perhaps that is your mistake." She quirked an eyebrow. "I'll make this offer once. Never again. Understand that if you refuse, you will die, promise to Akedia or no promise." And Martel did move, but it was to take a step closer to the boy. Two could play at the intimidation game and none in this hallway save Lucifuge had the experience to beat one who called herself the mistress.

She smiled. "Let me clarify my offer. You will become Pride, the leader of Our children-" the multitude surfaced again before receding into Martel's voice once more "-And join your lover. For this, you will gain a rank in Hell as one of the Deadly Sins."

Her smile soured into a scowl. "If you refuse, I will ensure you are incapable of informing anyone of what I do. Whether Lucifuge does it or Lamia, I care not. But it will be done. Do you understand?"
