The kid was annoying.
After finally agreeing that they would not rip Hirumae's ribbons off, Verix was sorely pissed. She was getting bored with going out and destroying trees or even sitting at home to polish her blade. Watching her niece's ribbons sway about annoyed her and she had to resist every urge in her body not to lean forward and tear it off.
She respected family of course, but this was highly ridiculous!
Growling angrily, she grabbed her weapon and stormed out, to find somewhere that at least, didn't have ribbons.
Annoying little things.

The other kid was equally annoying. Shayou. Damn it. Damn to hell his sister and Kyo and whoever's idea it was not to drop that entire batch of eggs off a cliff, because now the brat, who looked way too much like Kyo had back before Kyo had his growth spurt, and acted far too much like him as well, was living in his house, eating his food, and touching his things.
Well, technically it was mother's house, but Nexis liked to think of himself as having some share in it. Unlike the kid, who just showed up one day and took over. But mother was in a bad mood (like always), and the kid had had the good sense to disappear for the afternoon. While Nexis didn't intend to find where he had gone off to (au contraire, he hoped the kid stayed lost,) the plan seemed like a good one.
Hence, vanishing in progress.
It had been a long time since he had gotten some fresh air and sunlight. They were alien concepts to the pale kitsu, but perhaps today would prove worthwhile. This area was the Rixes territory.
Maybe they'd find Shayou, fail to recognize him as family, and kill him.
Nexis laughed. That would be pretty brilliant.

Just her luck.
Verix hadn't gotten far when she spotted a pair of dark blue ribbons on another kitsusagi. Those things were very, very annoying.
It was lucky she recognized her brother before she mauled him and her eyes narrowed. Oh yes, he had ribbons. How could she have forgotten? Then again, they hadn't seen each other in a while. The only sibling she was in contact with was Derix; they lived together after all. And her sister? God forbid if anyone mentioned her.
"You know." She hissed into his ear. "Ever think of cutting those ribbons off? They make you look like a girl, Nex." Suffice to say, Verix was not in a very good mood.

"You're charming as ever, sister," answered Nexis, turning around slowly to face Verix. He smirked. "You're just jealous because I'm prettier than you."
He swatted at one of his ribbons, rather nonchalant about all this. "I happen to like them," he added.
"I heard you got stuck with one of Zweix's bratlings?"

"You know me better than that, brother dear." She snorted, flicking her tails at him. "When did I care about being pretty? Please don't say you're confusing me with our other sister, I would be horribly offended." Verix had stopped referring to Zweix by name ever since her older sister had gotten with Kyo, Kyo of all people.
"Disgusting." She made a face. "I was of the impression I was the girl here."
"Luckily," She replied, narrowing her eyes. "She resembles her father in no way. And is quiet." Verix had been glad that her niece looked somewhat like her, color-wise, but she had hoped she would be as destructive, though they had no such luck. Oh well, at least she didn't stir up much trouble.

"I would never confuse the two of you," sighed Nexis. "You are far more intelligent and graceful." It wasn't that he enjoyed ingratiating himself to Verix - it was simply the easiest way to deal with her.
"Unfortunately for me," he continued, "The bratling mother took resembles its progenitors in every way imaginable, and is hopelessly obnoxious." He groaned deep in his throat. "I am going to run him off a cliff one of these days. I swear."
He chose to ignore her attempts to call him a girl.
"I'd be doing a favor to the entire species. Skimming the gene pool and all that."

"And I'm glad you know it, brother dear." She flashed him a grin, showing her sharp teeth.
Her golden eyes narrowed. "Have you ever tried smacking sense into him? I daresay mother wouldn't mind." Idly, she did wonder how her nephew looked like. She hadn't caught even a glimpse of them; Verix didn't bother much with trying to get to know Kyo's other little brats.
"Hah." She snorted, rolling her eyes. "And your hair." She frowned at the two little ponytails. "Maybe you should hack it off and make it short like Derix's."

Nexis thought for a moment, and then his eyes glittered wickedly. "My hair, dear sister?" he asked. "My hair is the source of my power. Were I to cut it off, I would turn into a sniveling eunuch along the lines of bird brain."
He shook his head, letting the ponytails whip from side to side.
"The hair stays - my gift to society."
He meandered a bit along the path. "Why should I expend the energy to whack him around when mother does that enough already?" he asked. "She tries to train him, I mean, but... He just doesn't have the gift for combat like we do. It's almost sad. I almost cry, I mean, he's practically stupid. But then I remember who he is and who his parents are and I laugh instead."
He chuckled sardonically.

"I don't have hair like yours." She pointed out, a look of disdain on her face.
"Stop making excuses; I'm pretty sure Derix would agree that you should hack those off." Her other brother had been pretty bored of late too, she could tell.
"Just pretend he's not related to you." A look of horror had first crossed her face, then it was replaced by a shrug and a smirk. That poor, poor sister of hers. "How does he look like?" She asked, out of curiosity.
Oh, how she would laugh if he looked more like Bird brain than his mother.

"For the last time," sighed Nexis, "I am not cutting my hair."
And then, thankfully, the topic changed.
"How's he look?" repeated Nexis, considering the question. "Almost exactly like Bird Brain did before Bird Brain turned into a dinosaur. He's got hair, though. And a bit of color in his tails. He doesn't look like he belongs to our family, thankfully."
he cocked his head to one side, thinking.
"How's the other one look? The one you guys have been abusing?"

Verix chortled, her paws gripping her weapon. "I should have guessed."
Oh wait, she had met one of her nephews before, didn't she? The dark blue one which looked like his mother and insisted that he was evil. While Verix was pleased at the kid's attitude, he was living with his mother after all, and she didn't harbor much hope.
She shrugged. "Kid has inherited the good looks in our family. Looks almost like me, save the teeth and all." She paused, wrinkling her nose in disdain. "And a ribbon." She added.

Nexis smirked. "So, she's like you, only minus the attitude problem and psychotic tendencies?" he asked. "Oh, and prettier," he added, grinning wickedly. "Because ribbons make everything better."
It wasn't that he had a death wish - he just liked to tease her. He was, after all, the oldest. He took a few nimble steps away from her, hoping to avoid any attack that might come.
"Do mom and dad even have ribbons?" he asked, waxing philosophical for a moment.

"You mean the good parts." She sneered, taking a swipe at him with her weapon. She hadn't expected to hit him of course. If she did, he would prove to be an easy target, something Verix did not wish of her sibling. They already had one disappointment, they didn't need another.
"Mother doesn't. Neither does Daddums." She paused, then carried on. "I'm pretty sure it comes from Grandma."

Nexis sighed. "Ah, yes," he nodded sagely, "Grandma. And the numerous forbearers before her... If it's random and unexpected, blame the family tree."
he tapped his claws against the ground, thinking.
"The family tree is in need of pruning, I think," he said. "Our nephew is wandering the woods today. Want to go play genetic gardeners?"

"At least Grandma is decent." Verix shrugged. "But the family tree is pretty crazy. Magic, werewolf, Nobody, Moon stuff, Cyborg...how much more weird can it get?"
A smirk tugged at the corners of her mouth."Are you kidding me? You don't even need to ask." Since she had promised not to hurt Hirumae, this would be fun. Oh yes.
And apparently, he looked like Bird Brain too! Oh joy.
