The warm October sun shone down on the patch, illuminating the pumpkins and the bales of hay that had been brought out for seating. A little ways away, a booth stood, offering cookies and cider and other goodies to the families there. Well, to what few families were there; business ran kind of slow up until around the middle of the month.
"Isn't this fun, 'Zuba?" Stasia said, smiling down at her daughter. She had the day off since the resturaunt was closed for maintenance, and was spending some quality time with her newest daughter. And, since it was October, what better place to spend that time than at a good old-fashioned pumpkin patch? It wasn't the large, five-to-six patches of her childhood, but it would suffice.
"Mnph...." the little girl muttered, shrugging. It wasn't too bad...so far, the apple cider and pumpkin cookies had been good. SHe didn't really get what the big deal was about pumpkins, but Mother seemed happy about it. Something about carving them and pies. Oh well. There weren't too many people there, thank goodness. She bent down, inspecting a bright orange pumpkin. It certainly didn't look like a pie, that was for sure. Though, it was a pretty color, and it felt interesting enough.
The 'teen' smiled, chuckling as she watched her daughter discover the joys of pumpkins. She sat on one of the bales of hay, sipping on her apple cider. What could be better than this?

"Lori - Lori, don't put that into your mo-!"
The spectacle that was Marlene Phelps let out a soft groan of defeat, the long strands of neon orange dyed for the Halloween season falling into the stormy gray of her eyes as her hands - gloved in fingerless black to match her uncharacteristically festive black PVC witch's dress. The child in question - Chloris - looked up, bright blue eyes twinkling and one hand holding the remains of a large pumpkin by the stem. The rest was being crunched loudly by the mouth stretched across her stomach.
"Yummy~" She announced happily, grinning and closing her visible eye, absently tugging at the pale purple jacket that had been wrapped around her, the front open to reveal the white shirt and jeans beneath - the shirt pushed up nearly to her chest. "What you call this again?" She prompted, smiling brightly and walking closer, waving the stem in content.
The woman sighed, smiling weakly and patting her on the head. "I noticed, you've downed three of them already." Three that would have decorated her shop, the woman lamented. "Let's go get some cider and cookies now, okay?" She mumbled, sighing and lightly placing a hand on her back - crunching through the dying foliage towards the booth and pausing as her ward jerked to a stop.
"Lori, wha-?" But the girl had already run off, dropping her pumpkin and sliding to a halt a bit too close to the odd girl that was examining the pumpkins.
"Smells like the white place," the young glutton announced, eye narrowing as she turned to glance up as her 'mother' caught up finally.
"Lori, don't run off lik -.. oh, my-" The shop owner jerked upright, blinking rapidly in surprise. Another.. hybrid?

'Zuba blinked, looking up at the girl quickly. She tried to stand and back up quickly, but ended up tripping and falling on her rump. Someone was definately not used to people yet. She sat there, staring at the other child, who mentioned something about the dreaded 'white place'. "H-hello..." she murmered softly, offering a weak smile to the girl and the adult before looking back down at the ground, the pumpkin now forgotten.
Stasia blinked as she saw the scene, standing to her feet as she began to make her way over. "'Zuba, honey, are you okay?" she asked, stopping a couple feet behind the child, gauging the situation. She seemed to relax a little as her little girl nodded, her attention now on the other parent and child duo. She blinked as she saw the other little girl, who looked far from human. Interesting... A smile slowly crept upon her face as she looked at whom she assumed to be the gaurdian of the other child.

"Ah... You made her fall over. Lori, apologize," Marlie sighed, glancing up at the other adult to offer an apologetic grimace. "Sorry about that, Lori isn't very good with people yet."
"Hi," Chloris greeted, tilting her head before flopping down and stretching out her legs before absently reaching to pull one of the pumpkins to her, the mouth across her stomach parting slightly. "Want to share it?" She offered, pushing the orange vegetable towards the stranger and tilting her head to the side. "What's your name?"
The 'guardian' sighed, hesitating before lowering herself carefully onto a pumpkin and glancing up at the stranger. "Well. It's nice to know I'm not the only one in the world with a.. unique charge to look after."

Stasia smiled. "It's quite alright. 'Zuba isn't quite used to being around others." she said, tucking a stray curl behind a pointed ear.
Azubahiel looked at the pumpkin, then looked up at Chloris and nodded. "Yes please." she said, smiling a little as she got over her initial feeling of startlement. "'Zuba-heel." she said, pointing to herself as she stumbled over her ridiculously long name. "You?" she asked as she glanced at the pumpkin, wondering what in the world to do with it.
The partial human looked at the other parent, nodding once. "There's a lot of us out here...you know, parents of odd children. It all depends on where you look." She said, chuckling a bit. "I'm Anastasia....Stasia for short. What do you call yourself by?"

"Chlowis," the girl paused, realizing that wasn't right before shrugging. "Lowi," she continued, pausing before pointing at the other. "..Zuba?" She continued, her other hand absently pulling off a piece of the pumpkin to munch on it as she studied the other, head tilting curiously to the side and one ear twitching forwards.
"Ah... I'm Marlene," the human woman offered, lips curling into a week smile and inclining her head. "Nice to meet you, Stasia." She paused, eyes turning back to the strange children. "A lot of us, huh? So that place isn't slowing down any time soon, I see..." She paused, wrinkling her nose. As cute as the results were... What idiots.

"'Zuba." she confirmed, nodding once. She broke off a small piece of pumpkin, putting her claws to good use in the process. She looked at it, deciding whether it was edible or not. She took a bite and made a slight face, discovering that she, unlike her friend, did not like the taste of raw pumpkin. With a bit of a strained swallow, she returned her attention to the other child....well, slightly behind her. "Pretty." she said, pointing to the girl's wings. She had wings like Adhara had! 'Zuba wanted wings too...
"A pleasure to meet you as well, Marlene." she said, smiling. "No, it's not..." she said, another chuckle escaping her lips. Deciding to change the subject to something a bit more light-hearted, she made a gesture toward's the human's clothing. "I absolutely love that dress! Where did you get it?"

"..Don't like?" The girl paused, glancing up from where she was absently dropping bits of the into the mouth in her stomach - which opened quickly to flash rows of sharp teeth before closing once more. Pausing, the green girl lifted her head, glancing back at her wings as they gave a little flap as if startled they were there.
"Pretty?" She mumbled, shaking her head before lifting her hand to reach out ad lightly touch the feathery ear the other sported. "This is pretty," she offered, shaking her head and making a face at her own wings. "Probably tastes good," she continued, smiling sweetly and tilting her head in indication that she really did mean it as a compliment.
"..This?" She blinked, glancing up in confusion and plucking at the shiny, plastic-y material. "I bought it online. I have a lot of things like this," she offered, glancing up and tilting her head at the stranger. "You.. really like it?"

'Zuba shook her head slowly. "No....sorry." she said, about to say something else when she saw the girl's tummy eat bits of the pumpkin. Her tummy couldn't do that! She wanted an awesome tummy-mouth....she'd ask Mother later about it. "Cool...." she said, smiling as she looked back to Lori's face.
"Is pretty." 'Zuba said with a nod of her head. Her wing-ear flexed slowly as it was touched, a small giggle coming from the girl. She then slowly shook her head. "Not pretty." she said, offering a soft smile. She blinked at the second part. Well, it sounded like a good thing. "Don't know how it tastes." she said, shrugging her shoulders.
Stasia smiled, nodding once. "Yes, I really like it." So she bought it online, huh? Well, this halfling knew what she'd be doing once they got home. "It's looks really interesting...I'm sure your wardrobe must look awesome if you have many outfits like this one."

"Doesn't matter," she replied offhandedly, pausing at the compliment on her stomach. "..you like it?" She mumbled, curiously leaning forwards across the pumpkin and blinking. Absently, the lipless mouth licked the prominent fangs that hung over slightly. "..Mommy says it's creepy," she offered, head tilting curiously once more as she observed the other in a new light - metallic wings fluttering faintly in excitement.
"Pretty things taste good," the girl mumbled absently, pausing to nod slowly. Then again, most everything tasted good... Absently, her tongue rolled across her lips as she reached to take another piece of pumpkin to satiate herself.
"Ha, well, that's a first," the slender woman laughed, grinning and shaking her head. "Most of my outfits are like this - well, they're PVC or plastic-like, anyways. The only exceptions are my cleaning rag clothes and my pajamas," she mused, shaking her head and absently reaching to tug at a strand of her brightly dyed hair.

She nodded, smiling at Lori. "Yes. Like it. I want one too." she said, giggling once. She then blinked, looking confused. "Why creepy? 'S not creepy." she stated, her voice mirroring her expression. How could it possibly be creepy? It was neat and cool; definately not creepy. Adults were wierd sometimes. "Not all." she said simply, remembering a recent incident with strawberry-scented bubbles. Looked good, smelled good, tasted horrible.
Her attention was drawn to the pumpkin, and an odd pang of a feeling hit her. She wanted it, and that confused her. Sure, she'd wanted things before, but those were things she liked. This was way different...
The 'teen' smiled, sitting down gracefully on a pumpkin. "Nice..." she said, the smile widening into a grin. "My wardrobe has a little bit of everything....well, almost, anyways." She reached a hand up, rubbing the tip of one of her ears that was a bit cold from the cool autumn air.

"You think so?" The girl mumbled, pausing before offering a brilliant - if shark-toothed - smile. "I like you," she declared peacefully, smiling and absently munching on more of the pumpkin's hull, blinking as she cracked through it and emerged with a small fist full of pale orange insides and seeds. "..Punkin guts," she mumbled in amusement, lips pulling into a small smile as she turned to wave her hand at Marlene, displaying her prize.
"..very good, Lori!" The woman offered, smiling and nodding her head - wincing as the child all but swallowed the fistful of plant innards whole and licked her lips. "..oy vey," Marlene mumbled, though her lips quirked into a small, fond smile. "Silly kid."
"Want some?" The small glutton offered, turning the pumpkin so that the newly made hole faced the other girl. "You might like it better," she continued, smiling brightly once more.

'Zuba smiled back, showing off her almost normal teeth, except for slightly elongated canines. "Like you too." she said, her tone seeming a bit more happy. So far, the other kids she had met were nice. Of course 'other kids' meant Adhi and Lori, but it was a start. She watched as her friend successfully gutted the pumpkin, giggling a little at the sight of the orange goo. The 'guts' looked ooshy and gooshy and wet....definately a recipe for fun. As the pumpkin was turned her way, the 'pang' of feeling stopped, and her smile widened a bit. "Sure!" she said, smiling. After all, something as fun-looking as punkin guts. She reached her hand in, getting a small ammount. Without a second thought or hesitation, she shoved it into her mouth. The orange goop was as nasty as the first piece had been, though she had to admit, the seeds tasted good.
Stasia chuckled, watching the other child. "She's such a sweet little girl." she said, complimenting the other woman's child as she looked at her.

Lori blinked, beaming brilliantly and giggling before pausing to point at the messy hand where the pumpkin had been. "Did you like~?" She sing-songed, smiling brightly and absently licking away the gunk still clinging to her own hand. She was going to ask to come out here more often, she decided absently, eyes sliding to a content close.
"She tries to be," the woman sighed, smiling faintly and glancing over to her new acquaintance. "But she can't.. stop trying to eat everything. Like the stray cats, and the lawn ornaments, and my merchandise..." The freshly dyed head shook, and Marlene sighed softly. "..She's not bad otherwise, though."

'Zuba paused, thinking about it a moment. "I like it." she said, grinning. She began cleaning her hand in the same fashion as the other girl, careful not to scratch or cut herself on her claws. Mother was right...pumpkin patches are fun!
Stasia offered the woman a sympathetic, understanding smile. "She's a good kid overall." she offered, her voice soft. "She just has her quirks, like most children do. Her's a just a bit more unique." She looked back over at the kids, smiling.
